I had overheating shutdown just shooting stills. No video. It was hot day with bright sun beating down on me and the a6300. I entirely missed an unrepeatable shoot. Later in the day it became a bit cooler and the 6300 suddenly started working again. I have not had this problem since, but saying that I have not been shooting in hot sun since. And when I am again I'll not be using the a6300. We've got plenty of mini cameras on the market that don't overheat from being out in the sun. This must be a first. I think this is a fatal flaw. The camera is simply unreliable. Adding cages, fans, leaving battery doors open etc might help, but this defeats the whole advantage of a convenient mini travel camera. Plus, I spent well north of $1K on this camera. What's the use of all the-tec if it just plain don't work?

you bring up something thats always concerned me moutainhobo. I can appreciate that people want to keep their cameras running, and not have it shut off, and kudos to Sony for now extending that limit and allowing it to get hot. (while other manufacturers just cut the record time off at 5 minutes to prevent that) - but running ANYTHING hot (a car, a laptop, whatever....is never a good idea. The ONLY real way for Sony to fix this is a better, or bigger heatsink, in my opinion, which means the a6xxx has to stop being so small.

mountainhobo IMHO, Sony is better than other Manufacturers like Canikon, they choose to sacrifice performance. I prefer go with High Performance Sony, *because I can live with Sony Cons* , example ; 1) Over Heat > add vertical grip, add passive vents with air filter or active cooling (Case Modding) 2) Fragile Metal-Plastic Lens Mount (a6000, a68) > buy aftermarket metal mount from Fotodiox (40 $) 3) Lower Resolution & Brightness Screen > Add external monitor *There's No such thing as perfect camera, every camera has weakness*

Glad to see they finally addressed the overheating issue with the A6300. Or at least kinda fixed it if you are inside in the AC. It's overheating was one of a couple issues I had with the A6300. I loved the image quality, but just couldn't work with it's unreliable overheating and of course the lack of articulating screen. Lack of touch screen...meh, but lack of articulating screen for those of that are a one man band is a real problem. Ended up buying a GH5 (partially because of some of your videos on it) and have been mega pleased with it.

Todd's Nerd Cave nice! I’ve been using the gh5 as my main video camera for the last 3 months. I’ve been enjoying the image quality (in good light) but there are some times I’ve needed to do quick vids with reliable autofocus and better lowlight performance. That’s why I still have the a6300

As a PC & laptop over clocker, I love modding my Sony, Im actually add Passive Vents (with air filters)+ Active Cooling, My camera always cool, Loong hours of 4K recording, no problem. Think of it like a High Performance Processor from Intel, (Tremendous power & heat) with huge discounted price. But it comes with standard factory heatsink (must upgrade) PS: for standard factory body, in 4K you must pop up the flash, and use vertical grip, to lower the camera temp.

If you're outdoors shooting video, wear a goofy baseball cap with a white umbrella on it or have a big white umbrella to shoot under, you'll save 15 degrees right off the bat. Keep the cam out of the sun. Good info. Planning to get a used 6300 body for 500. A6400 just too expensive (1000 uSD body in canada)- im not a pro videographer.

Hey mate, i need some help! I am looking at either the Sony A6300 or the Canon M50. it will be my first camera and i will be using it for Vlogging, video in my room for youtube videos, recording daily activities either selfie mode or normal mode, recording activities, sporting events/me playing sport, family/social events and also taking pictures however priority will be video with photos being secondary. I have managed to come across the A6300 with the kit lens for $1090 AUD and the Canon M50 with the kit lens for $699 AUD. (offer for a short time only) My initial worry and still is the heating of the Sony cameras, we're not able to refund the item here in AUS as we don't have the 30 day return/exchange as some stores in the US do as ive been told and heard about. So buying one is crucial. Given all that data mate and your personal experiences which should i go and which would you go personally? 4K at times would be nice but not needed on my end tbh, either all both 4K is terrible given the timing limit on Sony and the crop on Canon. Is it worth spending the extra 400 AUD on the A6300? Any help is greatly appreciated mate! Look forward to hearing back from you shortly.

Sony just announced a silver version of the A6300. Presumably, the choice of the more reflective color is to help with the overheating problem, only when in the sun. But the catch is that customers now need to pay a premium for the same camera that is somewhat less likely to overheat in the sun; B&H is now charging $150 less for the black version of the A6300 than they are for the silver version. That is unethical, Sony.
