When it comes to building with blueprint modules or just building in general, you should add a nudging tool that would allow you to lock a feature in place without building it so you can fly around it to see how it lines up, then use keys to move the feature by 25cm increments in any direction. It's something another game Satisfactory added and it helps so much when building large things that you can't really see how they line up, and I think it would be perfect for SE2's new building system.
@WiseOakDakota10 күн бұрын
Perfect addition, this would also help when selecting blocks in the “partial copy” mode. Press a button to lock the current selection so you can move to a different vantage point Edit: it already works this way for the partial copy 😁

One topic I haven't seen people talk about yet is, Have you guys talked about how weapons will work in SE2? For example, Munition range has to be bigger so projectiles can hit targets that are further than 2km away. I asume SE2 will have physical projectiles, not energy based, and those don't "despawn" after 1-10km. Yes I know, this isn't as important as other things, nevertheless, it's part of Space Engineers.

The trailer says "Collisions up to 20 m/s will not cause structural damage." Could they still cause visual damage such as scratch marks? That could be cool, e.g. to see a well-used mining ship have all sorts of scratches and dings, telling its story, without the blocks actually being damaged/weakened.

I definitely understand the idea of introducing new features to differentiate SE2 from SE1 first, but I also do believe prioritizing multiplayer will also better increase playtime longevity during the development process. I know personally, my main draw to SE1 was getting to build cooperatively and creatively in open space with buddies. Getting multiplayer out sooner may result in a higher degree of feedback as players new and old can hop in with friends whereas they may opt for something else or only remaining in SE1 until multiplayer drops.
@GrovePaladin11 күн бұрын
SE1 was in Alpha/Early access for a few years before Multiplayer was added. It looks like the wait for Multiplayer will be shorter than it was for the first game, but I would probably expect that VS4 with Multiplayer won't come for 12 to 18 months.

I really hope that repairing with a projector will be improved. What always bugged me was the fact that in some cases the toolbar in a cockpit doesn't remember what the original cockpit toolbar was. So it was always annoying to remember what exactly was assigned for each toolbar and rows.
@ClangandChiill11 күн бұрын
Here's a tip for ya. Before adding any action to a toolbar or a logic block action slot first put the block your interacting with into a group and make the action target the group instead of the block itself. If your action is linked to a block it looks for that EXACT block but if it targets a group it just looks for that exact group name and applies the action to all blocks in that group, so you can freely change/replace the block(s) in that group without having to reset all your toolbars and action slots.
@hydrophobicgoldfish11 күн бұрын
I wouldn't mind if the toolbar labeling was native, or a mod. Build info style. Also the ability to change the toolbar function without having to remove it and redo it every time. While we at it, how about a folder structure in the appropriate menus, so you can arrange all your blocks into your own categories when building. Rather than having one continuous list to scroll through for ages

When water comes in Vertical slice 3, will that make voxels airtight? Like to hold the water, in turn make them to pressurize airtight, to make it possible to close off an entrance to a hole and make that airtight for asteroid base building.
@KryoXMusic9 күн бұрын
I wouldn't count on it. Watertight and Airtight seem vastly different, something, like the ground, can be watertight, but not airtight, but a pressurised steel building will be both watertight and airtight. It would be realistic in this sense
@WiseOakDakota10 күн бұрын
I have a suggestion for the voxel hand, could you add functions to lock it to and move it along certain axis? So if we would like to make a smooth straight tunnel; we can choose the size of the voxel hand, lock it in place with a button, then move it along say the X axis to make it move straight along that axis. This would work best on planets if you could choose to make it align to planetary gravity, so that one axis aims directly toward the planet center

New grid looks great of course, but I have an important question: do you plan (or implemented already) a folders system for functional block in ships/stations consoles? In SE1 was grouping mechanic, but you couldn't put group inside of group, and in result, managing big grids with multiple complex systems, or even with some smaller ships docked to your via docking ring, was real pain, because all block was essentially in one big pile. I hope you consider this.

You guys need to improve the experience of building with modules, maybe have the ability to lock the blueprint in place and nudge it in some directions before actually building it, to make it easier to line everything up (take a look at Satisfactory's blueprint nudging system). Another suggestion I have is, to make it easier to cycle through different block shapes, in addition to having the normal cycling though of the options, have it so we can hold down a key, maybe the number it's assigned to, I don't know, and a little circular menu pops up with all the different shapes, so we can select one in particular without having to cycle through them all. Again, take a look at the way Satisfactory does this, I think it could work really well with SE. This could also help fix the problem that SE1 has where there are like 5 different basic armour blocks, with 15 shapes each, each with a light and heavy variant. Maybe with the circular menu, you can reduce that to 2 or 3 per armour type, making it actually possible to have all the armour in the game in just one hotbar! One final suggestion from my part, although I admit this one is more of a personal gripe of mine, I would love it if we could build a block directly from the build menu without having to put it in the hotbar, similar to the way you build blueprints. Sometimes, I just want to build one refinery! Just the one! Especially because hotbar space in SE, at least in SE1, is extremely valuable and disputed.

What I wonder is why the "big" Blocks are still one mesh. Wouldn't it be better to just have the 2,5 m blocks as a blueprint of 10 x 10 x 10 0,25 m Blocks? That way you could just make a hole into it very easily. Also how would they compare to big blocks in physics? I would think that big blocks are less performance intensive compared to small blocks.
@anonemoose777711 күн бұрын
Performance performance performance! I mean sure we could make ships out of atoms for that matter but the fps drop would be extreme. A larger block means a ship can be built of less blocks with is computationally cheaper which means larger ships for the same pcu. Remember what a chugfest Spengies is, especially in multiplayer, so we need every scrap of performance we can get. Especially if we ever want true capital ships and large battles in multiplayer.
@Ice-Qube11 күн бұрын
@@anonemoose7777 Yea so what I said is pretty much true. I was thinking that with all of the improvements to multithreading the ships will be more performant. I guess we'll need to keep the use of the small "detail blocks" to a minimum and stay as close to the 2,5 m or 0,5 m blocks as possible.
