You can definitely move wind turbine towers inintact with your wonky starter rover like you suggested by putting gear on the front. Before you pick it up drop your front suspension and raise your rear. When you're ready to drive bring your suspension to a normal driving height. This will put the load more over the center of mass of the vehicle. Then drive VERY slowly home. Then you can drop the whole tower on a waiting pad and get good clearance. Cheers. Looking forward to the series.
@davidmartensson2739 ай бұрын
That works unless you need to go down hill. But add a hinge and some blocks for distance and you can tilt the tower down over the rover, thats how I did and I could drive that 100km/h on flat ground with no problem and it handled sand dunes very well also, though I did have a bit wider wheels

Looking like a good, and slightly frustrating, start for you, Splitsie - if you've got the parts spare at any point, you might want to build a lifter vehicle dedicated to doing what you were to the wind turbine as it's main purpose. People will always want wind turbines. One that can bring it down will also be able to put it up - you could 'lease' out your services with the vehicle in return for components, like grids or large tubes, that may be hard to find. While this shouldn't be an issue on your server - maybe a rule should be that things that are painted (not rusty) have to be left alone? Then people can paint their grids and be more certain of their immunity from (accidental) piracy.
@Splitsie9 ай бұрын
That's a kinda cool idea, I might keep trying different techniques with each turbine to find one that seems to be best suited to a dedicated vehicle :)

@ultmateragnarok83769 ай бұрын
I think the largest benefit of having a flatbed vehicle is that you can just take the whole shelving units from the sheds and lock them to it. It'd be significantly easier than separating and dragging things individually and then you can sort it at a better location or take the items when they're needed. 31:27 The baby battery bumper. Which is.. probably a chemical spill risk. I'm sure it's fine. The plane wreck intrigues me not just due to the possibility of finding its engines and whatever hefty power source it likely had, but also because based on the design of the tail and the 'WRK-B' on the side (which might mean there were at least two of them), it's likely a cargo plane. So if you can find the main body, it might well have cargo still within. Or maybe it was carrying fuel and is now naught but some of the dust kicked up in the windstorms, who could say. I believe the wing you found was only the outer tip of it, so it's likely there's at least three more large thrusters scattered around from it. It would be pretty cool to find all the major parts and piece them back together into the shape of its hull, as like a decoration or something, a show of how far you've come, by the end. 33:49 Y'know, if you had two cranes, you could hold the end of one with the other while making modifications to the middle of one of the arms. I'm sure locking a crane to the arm of another crane wouldn't cause any issues. Maybe you should invest in a permanent landing gear jack, on a _totally_ unrelated note. Your wind turbine is a real tribute to the crop harvesting that most of the places you found were dedicated to.

Instead of a crane semi truck, why not try making a LARGE bed trailer (for maximum loot) and pull it wit a well articulated forklift like tractor? You could set the trailer up to have a walking ramp for small stuff/driving up and have the trailer easy to detache to properly use the "forklift"
@Splitsie9 ай бұрын
Hmm... I might have to try that when I've got a bit more stuff. The crane feels like a necessity because I need to be able to manipulate things that are too heavy to lift with the Improvised Experimentation mod, otherwise I won't be able to rotate things properly using just a forklift. But it could be a way to approach things later on :)

I got this mod scenario play and got most of the mods you recommend BUT I failed to get improvised experimentation mod and and Ive still been able to make ground in the mod but probably much slower than you would. Its harder when you dont have the ability to move things by hand. Ive had to improvise a lift. I built a scrap trailer on my rover that I now have equipped with mag plates helps alot of after all the cargo rolling out so often only downside is when I disengage parking brake I think it is all the mags turn off. Ive been in the mode for 2-3 days now and Ive not come across not a single Thruster in scrap. Ive tried to get batteries from the unknown signal but it explodes before I can ever even when I make it back to my base. I ended up basing in a tiny hanger later on I found that place you based at a stones throw from where I based but It took two days of searching and building to find it and gives a massive boost of pre built stuff so I didnt base there. Large Cargo is there BUT... 24 grid yeah no. I found a hangar too that you visited and I pulled that old jeep out and took it home and built it. But it doesnt work the batteries are gone on it had to hack them and so I need power cells to fix them. I don't think its worth the power cells now that Ive built it knowing I may need those cells for a ship instead of jeep that doesnt really do anything but drive. So its sitting in the hangar chilling. I haven't found that Jalopy with thrusters yet. Man I wish It would be nice to get off the ground. What did you do about Oxygen for the suit and H2 for the pack? I haven't found any ice and I cant make a detector my pack is empty so its complaining constantly and I have to go out and seek ice. Ive not used any ores that Ive found as of yet. I found a little secret though. One you passed up. Also how did you get compass to show up?

An easy early solution to the crane is to use a hinge and an arm with mag plate to swing down, attach and lift. Very easy to build and maneuver and once you change, its no real regret tearing down since its just one hinge. And on the back I used an L bar going on over the top of the rover with the long part having pistons. That way I could grab the wind turbine tower a far bit up and once cut loose and tilted down I retracted the pistons to center the load. Using build vision the hinges are also super simple to handle without resorting to scripts it turret controllers. Later on you will need a crane to move things into position, but in the beginning when you just need to gather things it works well. Especially for people new to this way of playing :)

@Derzuel9 ай бұрын
regarding the wind turbine, as long as you don't grind the very bottom block you can simply drop the entire tower one block at a time without fear of destroying the turbine. The reason you don't remove the bottom most block is because it is level with gravity and so when the pillar lands on it, it won't tip over.

This mod is so great. Good job! It makes SE so much more interesting to play. Why is it that the devs did not create such a scenario after so many years? It would be nice to do the equivalent but in space. Maybe a shipbreaker scenario where you need to break down wrecks in space to sell so you can rent a small stocking facility to store the things you want to keep to build you first ship to make your salvage run more profitable. Anyways, you should communicate with the devs, this scenario needs to become official along with a space variant. Unlike a random SE game, this scenario gives you a goal, getting off this hellhole. Maybe add datapads with information and clues to the whereabouts of key locations as well as as for immersion purpose. Oh! We noticed that when Installing new offroad wheels the wheels are not rusty but the suspension is in our game. Sure we can paint it rusty, but it would save time if both are rusty.

The only way I can see something like this getting adapted to become vanilla is if Keen ever come up with a way to procedurally spawn stuff on planets. I'm hoping they do and if that day comes I'll 100% be prodding them to let me at it to create something official :D

@@Splitsie yeah. Vanilla SE feels empty, like a lifeless seashell. Players also lacks purpose in random games. Scenarios are nice, but these are one-shot deals. They have no branches to choose from and are always the same. Players in random games have no goals, priorities, objectives or a purpose. There should be some series of jobs to do which could change something in the game world if you succeed and same if you fail. Like certain new tech becomes available... It is just too easy,. The vanilla scenarios are nice but limited unlike yours which is built in a way that is open and choose you priorities and every new game is different. No one is taking you by the hand to tell you where to go and do next. Oh! I played a vanilla game the next day after trying your mod extensively and it makes me appreciate more what I find in the game world. Made us realise that the vanilla game is super easy, giving you everything, even on a realistic level of play with sparse asteroids. If you need something to be tested, let us know on your mod's page in the Steam workshop. :)

I wish there was something like this for console engineers. Hope somebody does it one day soon. I love watching these videos.

Unfortunately the method I used to restrict the build menu causes the game to crash when using a controller and I have no idea how else to do it :( The scrap spawning can work on a dedicated server for console though

I really like this idea, but man, the craning and dragging just to get the blocks... I guess I just lack the know-how on how to build and operate a proper crane. And I never used build vision. Are these just things every SE player knows and uses now, or is the barrier to entry that high?

You is a clone that starts over and over again, using you previous you-s work to progress, until manage to escape this system with scarce resources. If you meet others, they are just imaginations in your mind replacing blackouts and loneliness. Takes a while to grow a clone, activates when you die, why stuff in different stages of decay. An AI in a cloaked damaged ship keeps the loop going as long as there are resources left. Maybe this is the last cycle? XD
