New Spektrum NX6 Flight Transmitter Review: Worth upgrading?

In this video, I go over the new features of the Spektrum NX6 Flight Transmitter, share what the updated features are compared with the DX6, show you how to transfer over all your models, program a new plane from their model pre-sets and share my early thoughts about whether it's worth upgrading.
Some of the updates include Wifi connectivity, smart ready (for telemetry readings from your smart batteries, receivers and ESCs), color screen with customizability, diversity and folding antenna, model presets and templates, no separate dongle needed to use it with the RealFlight simulator, re-chargeable lithium ion battery, and the SAFE flight modes no longer take up a channel. Kind of cool!
Also, I misspoke about the required SD card - it's 16GB, class 6 or lower (not 62GB); also it's a micro USB charger (not USB-C!).

Nice Im so glad you did this video and explained it all. I love the fact that you can use that part with the presets for the BNF and it imports the setting from horizon. that is a great tool they came up with!! I didnt know that bc I hate setting up the transmitter and that is awesome they did that!!! Very good video. Nice to see how you did the model transfer from your DX6 to the new NX6. One thing I would mention is that you should always turn your transmitter off before putting in an SD card and then turn it off before taking it out (as per a Spektrum tech rep). Keep up the good work!

Got the nx6 and immediately had an issue. Would not update via wifi. Apparently a lot of people have had this issue. Sd card was the only route to fix it to current update.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the Allen key is used to tension up or loosen the gimble tensions from the front of the Transmitter, without having to back off like you used to do with the older radios.

Spektrum has come a long way within the last 16 years or so with their radios, first 2.4ghz radio i had was the dx5e the dx6i, and now i use the dx6e and now i have to buy the nx6

@@old-rcplane-phart a little bit of a step feeling in the throttle is good for having a tactile feedback when throttling up and down. It also can help to avoid throttle changes while making yaw inputs from my experience.

My go-to TX is a Jumpter T-16, an it's a great radio, however... I find myself flying a lot of Horizon Hobby BNF planes lately, an I wouldn't bother with a Spektrum radio until now. The feature of having ALL of current BNFs from HH is what sold me...because I can be lazy. I STILL haven't figured out how to do a motor reverse on my Night Timber X with the Jumper. It SOUNDS simple, but of course, we all know it's not as it seems. Also the WiFi isn't exactly a must-have for me, but would make things quicker.

Hey, not sure if you figured this out yet but the gimbal protectors you have would fit if you adjust the gimbal sticks. They are adjustable so you can make them longer or shorter.🙂

Only the NX10 has the Hall Effect gimbals :-). So far I'm experiencing one big issue (NX6). Set the wing type as follows "Wing: 2 Ail 1 Flap". Now go to the RX Ports assignments and see if you can move the left & right Ailerons to a different ports. Never been an issue on my DX6. In fact, if you have flaps on it disappears from the options list if you try and move it too.

I have received my NX6 and the only issue I have had is binding my existing AR6200 receivers, I have bound them both ways and all good, as soon as I have removed the bind plug and re plugged in the battery the receiver lights keep flashing as though it isn't bound. Funny when I bind them to my old DX6I I have no problems, your thoughts.

What I’d really like is a Spektrum Stick Radio for Surface vehicles such as Cars and Cars. I grew up using stick transmitters I raced 1:10 scale in 92/94 with old acoms and futaba attack with big aerial that could poke somebodys eye out, and a Box full of Crystals. Nobody makes them I hate using the Wheels Transmitters but that’s there is for Cars .

I ended up with the NX6 because my DX6e broke only after using it for less than a year. When I transferred over all my models I noticed that switches B and G are reversed on the NX6 from DX6..Im not sure why that is but I wondered if you noticed any changes in the switch positions also.

Just an FYI, if you buy one of these used on Amazon, it may be registered to the previous owner. If that's the case, it might still be logged into the Spektrum site, or not. I don't know as I logged the previous owner out, used my own credentials to log into the Spektrum site and immediate got a message stating it's registered to someone else. Now I can't download the firmware updates that fixes the battery issue with the NX6.

Enjoyed your NX6 review. Much more to the point than many guys who post such stuff!!! I have the NX manual and it does not seem to mention swapping modes on the Tx. I am mode 1, all Tx's out of the factory seem to be mode 2. Can modes be swapped on the NX6? Thank you.

I will reply to my own question - I bought an NX6 a week ago. The mode switch is simply achieved using 6 screws, no need to take the Tx case apart .

thanks for the review, information on these is still rather scarce. I'm suprised you never even mentioned the TBS Crossfire compatibility (especially after spending time on a worthless feature like screen colors). I'm also updating from the DX6 to an NX radio...but which one? All of my receivers are Crossfire so it's a huge interest and selling point. Crossfire on the old DX6 worked but is cumbersome. I know this is 3 years old now, but....My DX6 is on its last leg, so I need to think about upgrading soon. I had my DX6 repaired 2 years ago because the RF module stopped working. I have noticed this spring, my DX6 is having issues binding to now planes and the screen is flickering when it starts up. I do not think it is worth sending back in for repair again at this point. Recently I have a new (first) NX6 transmitter. Unfortunately, English is not my best site, so I use "google translator" or if there are subtitles I force my language. Is it possible to return to the factory settings with one button (or two), in case of wrong configuration? I would like to configure "AeroScout S2 1.1m" (RTF) for my NX6 transmitter. Still researching radios. I want to practice flying over the winter with X-Plane for iMac before I fly a real glider. Do I need the dongle or does connecting the USB charger/connector get me connected? I have a new iMac mini with M1 chip. The people from X-Plane have no idea if this will work with the NX6 or any RC TX for that matter, it will handle joysticks and other flight sim controls. IF it connects I will need to setup each control in the setup menu of X-Plane. I need to make sure it will connect with X-Plane because I really don't want to fly a real plane without practice. I live in the boonies and have farm fields around me so this is a perfect place for gliders. Not needing a dongle will save me some $$ I can use for batteries.

dx has wireless too. my dx8g2 does at least, what it does not have is all the bind and fly models. be honest. spektrum sent you this to review and keep, but for those that don't have that luxury; would you recommend they upgrade? i am going to stick with my dx gen 2 until nx is replaced. they are way too similar imho. Good video you just missed the talkin point of your headline, is this new nx worth upgrading.

It has 7 channels but one only works with SAFE. So for non safe models it's still a 6 channel.

It’s been a while since I’ve been back to the RC world but I miss it & it’s great to be back in the hobby. Thank you for your inspiration, I have an old Spektrum DX6 that I hardly use & having an IMac Computer is not the same as a Windows baised PC so updating firmware from different sites is very annoying. Do you think it’s worth purchasing a new open TX transmitter like the Radio Master 16, or would it be better to just stick with or upgrade my Spektrum radio?

If you find things annoying - don't get a RadioMaster - I have one, and just managed to bind it to a Spektrum plane - but it's not straight forward, changing from OpenTX to EdgeTX, settup up everything, working out how to bind, and manually configuring inputs/mixes/outputs. It's a really manual process. If you want things to be straight forward, stick with Spektrum. Some people complain about eco-systems, but eco-systems are good. Things work together and work well with little effort.

You didn't mention voice alerts. Does it have that? I have a DX6e and it does not so this would be an upgrade for me if the NX6 (or NX8) has that. The HH website says it does but I'm just double checking.
