I just bought the E Flite Apprentice and maidened it after a 14 year hiatus from RC..Fantastic & easy! I put a deposit on the NX10 while I was picking up the plane. Nice. I haven't been flying for too long. I have been in this for about 10 years. Started with a dx6i when it was being phased out, got it with a simulator I bought when they included a transmitter worth something more than just the simulator which was nice. I have a dx6 as well now. I will be upgrading to an NX transmitter soon. Anyway, what slide it took for the worst in price and what they give you, but the advancements in the tech and safe operation is absolutely amazing. I remember all the BNF models gave you everything except the transmitter. Now you don't get a battery anymore. which kinda sucks. unless its a preorder special. The most recent being the draco if bought during pre release you could have opted for a battery as well for about the price of just the BNF model now. I believe it was 629 with the batt. The fact most have telemetry built in is an amazing addition. I still am happy I got in when I did because I have a ton of models they are discontinued and they are excellent planes, some not so much. When you see a close out price for about the half the price of the original release price, its an amazing deal.

I sold my first Gen Dx9 for $270, I was shopping for a new radio, I didn’t want to get the black edition 9 nor down grade to dx 8 black. I didn’t need 12 channels either, but the 12 was the only option for a proper upgrade. So I bought the IX 12 brand new, if this NX 10 was there before and not to say the Ix 12 is bad the Ix I2 is a great radio, I would have bought the nx10 if it was there back then. Great review Steve

Tried to transfer my ix12 ispm models by choosing spm in menue to SD card but it did not work. Will NX10 accept ispm files? Update: after I updated ix12 Airware both spm and ispm files are transferable. No problem any more.

I like new and shiny but I still haven't seen a reason to upgrade from my DX9 and DX6 yet. Also, I haven't ever heard of anyone ever breaking the antenna on a DX9. I'm sure it's possible but I never heard of it being an issue.

You can choose in the menus which "model" to place the file on.. It won't overwrite unless you tell it to.

Hey Steve, I picked up the NX10 to use with CRSF tx lite and diversity receiver, I just seen on Joshua Bardwell video the diversity receiver has to be changed in Lua script to output 1 crsf tx in channel map and output 2 to crsf rx. Is this the case using the NX10? He said diversity receiver is factory set to output PWM to drive servos where nano single antenna is preset for quads. There's very little info in spektrum manual for the serial port set up.

Awesome review and demonstration! I like that Spektrum is always in the forefront of TX technology. But, I'm only an occasional flyer, so I see no need to always upgrade my TX because support is no longer available for the older models. This is where I have the issue. I currently have the DX6 G2, and I absolutely love this radio, but as we all know support is no longer available for this model. I'm willing to upgrade to a newer model, but with product aging I do not want to make the investment into a newer model just for support to end in a near future date. What would be a good TX that will have continued support without breaking the bank?

Modern magnetic gimbals use magnetic angle sensors; typically with GMR-type materials. The Hall effect is a very specific electromagnetic phenomenon not directly related to angle sensing; and a typical Hall sensor outputs a yes-no type signal like a crankshaft position sensor or the sensors inside a brushless motor.

First time I heard that the iX20 has the Hall Effect gimbals. Will the model import feature that you showed toward the end of the video be added to the iX20 in the next update?

20 definitely has hall effect. from the Spektrumrc site: Hall-effect sensor, quad-bearing gimbals. I made a little error on that information and corrected in the video notes. Turns out those are factory loaded on the SD card for now and might not be updated on future updates off the bat. I'll ask the team what the chances are on having that in future IX updates as well.

You can certainly get them "floppy" if you want them that way. I will say the springs in general are more tight than the DX9 in my opinion. There are ways to "mod" that, but out of the box, no, maybe not as light.

New to flying. Currently have a DX5E using it to practice on the computer with Phoenix. Would like a new transmitter. The NX8 is only $40.00 more than the NX6. Seems that would be worth it. But, for the nicer battery, two extra channels and Hall gimbals the NX10 for $150.00 more than the NX8 might be the one to get. What to do?? Thx Paul

The DX9 looks more expensive radio in my opinion. I like the chromed material compared to just plastic. I will stick to my DX9 for now. If HH will release a Hall effect gimbals for DX9 I would definitely upgrade mine. Good solid radio.

I believe pointing your antenna at your model does the exact opposite of what you are saying. The point is typically where the dead spot is and the “sides” of your antenna is actually where the signal waves come from. The antenna does not act like a directional mic, therefore pointing it at the ground is inconsequential AND the patch antenna is beneath the logo on the front of the radio, so if anything, pointing your radio antenna at the ground is actually helping.

Pretty much? Honestly the NX8 is really the king of “meeting all bnf requirements” but the 6 does well. You only run into issues when you are doing flaps and gear and safe select, etc.

Question. Getting back into hobby after 30 yrs. so much new to learn. Have built two real home built overs the years. Currently flying apprentice sts rtf. Looking at getting a long term transmitter to stay in the hobby and to teach grandson. Almost pulled the trigger on dx8 gen2 two weeks ago. Your recommendations and comments are welcome. Prepare to have your mind blown. Look up the Radiomaster TX16S. 16 channels and will bind to a lot more then just Spektrum. The Spektrum ecosystem is great but it is wildly expensive. I too got back into RC after about 15 years out and I was stunned at how affordable and versatile radios are now. I personally got an FrSky X9D+ 4 years ago that was flawless. Then moved to a TeamBlackSheep Tango 2.

@@zymurgyjwt Everything you said about RM TC16S is pretty much correct but I'm unsure about investing in an new unproven (long term) transmitter when flying expensive models. The other thing is that the handset quality may not match the software side of things and while OTX is a powerful operating system, it has a big learning curve. Depends on the rx but honestly the 637t is an amazing piece of kit and offers smart telemetry when paired with a spektrum avian ESC and Smart battery. You also get SAFE and AS3X if needed too.

For what it's worth, imo Spektrum is on a downhill slide ,the ix12 and dx 20 were total flops now they've come out with these CHEAP looking nx series, they look like they come with a $20.00 foam airplane from Walmart .The dx 9 and 18 were okay radios you would be proud to own . Quality control has been bad at Spektrum for a while ,I just hope they get there act to get together before it's to late .

With all the issues from esc twitching, blinking rx, wifi wont' work, cheap feel, parts fallen off inside, even with new features, there's no way that's a 500 dollars radio. The dx9, dx8 and the ix feel way way better and not CHEAP. They really need to get their act together with these cheap releases.

Really a 10ch.....Why not a 12. All else seems good. Just a 12ch like the Dx 9, is all we ask. Nothing more nothing less. It looks cheap the other point i noticed.

Wifi is for updates. On either the nx or the ix you aren’t going to have to worry about that. Funny, but even the ix system is not connected to the RF system. Even if android crashed, your model won’t.

@@StevesRC steve you rock and i am sorry to be condescending in my comments , I LOVE HORIZON HOBBY AND SPEKTRUM . thank you for all the things you give us i just received a dx8 but sending it back to trade up for a dx9 blk edition . the hall sensor gimbals of the ten has me reconsidering everything . would there ever be a need to upgrade the 1 s battery in the newer models ?

@@antoineozaneaux6881 Certainly could upgrade to the larger battery to get more life, but the battery life from what I've seen is very impressive to begin with. Also, no worries at all!

Nx8 does not have Hall effect gimbals...you are better off to get a RadioMaster T16 for a quarter of the price....way overpriced

Minus the ease of use, customer support and compatibility with Spektrum's SMART ecosystem. To each their own. And yes, the 8 does not have Hall-Effect. I'm not sure I said that though.

@@StevesRC they are selling new BNF with smart lipo but no smart ESC so the smart lipo is useless...I sent DX9 in for repair($50) charge led was out. They would not fix...fault was on them not me..what support.

@@ror-ys3qp Not true, the Smart Lipo has its own benefits not exclusive to the smart ESC. Also, Horizon is selling most of their BNF as Basic meaning there are no batteries included. They do offer promotional combos with smart batteries. The smart lipos give you data onboard that can be accessed by the charger and even the smart checker. You also get the auto-discharge which in my opinion is the single biggest reason for owning smart lipos regardless of their compatibility with smart ESCS.
