The R211 is a New York City Subway car being built by Kawasaki Railcar for the B Division and the Staten Island Railway (SIR). This video shows the R211S variant, which is intended for the Staten Island Railway to replace the R44s that are running there. Here, we see the second set of R211S cars, 105-109, undergoing their very first test run on the Staten Island Railway. Enjoy!

The testing was delayed I think because there was an issue with the cars not integrating well SIR’s cab-signaling system. It seems the issue was resolved.

Well, until relatively recently, the SIR was an FRA legal railroad (like PATH is). There would have been legal issues.

The SIR was originally part of the B&O Railroad. It still operates somewhat like a railroad and they still use B&O railroad signals so it wouldn’t be possible to
