EDIT: THIS HAS BEEN PATCHED OUT Fun fact! You can actually throw a smoke grenade at a Daemonhost, and even if it hits them in the head it will reduce their FOV so much that you can basically walk right up to one. The daemonhost in that second clip would have been extremely avoidable

Smoke grenades are definitely a sleeper hit of the vet rework. Being able to control the flow of fights by forcing most enemies into melee and otherwise making some breathing room against snipers and gunners ends up being invaluable at higher level missions. Most of the people shitting on it don't really get the value of positioning and range control. Kraks are fun, sure, though the sheer amount of options for fighting armor these days, and especially veteran's new excellent rending talents, make them much less mandatory than a lot of players seem to think. I do wish that infiltrate got a slight cooldown buff, or maybe a talent to reduce threat generation that's more interesting than just 'don't move', to make the low-profile playstyle a bit more consistent.

In my experience it doesn't always work against snipers, like 4:40, seems counterintuitive Definitely good against range elites and specials like flamers and trappers though

Kraks are fun, but everyone and their mum can deal with a crusher. Controlling fights lets everyone do their thing.

I like your way of thinking. I thought respectful of other allies. I think smoke grenades and stealth are not that bad if you choose the right weapons, I don't disagree that Kraks are superior and I understand people's desire to pursue Meta, but I don't see what the talent tree is for then. Well, still, as you say, without some adjustments, it's not superior.

@@chetmanley1885 Kraks can make quick work of bosses if you don't have a good damage setup going. Just helps to have that temporary firepower to wipe out huge hordes or melt bosses while you're looking for the right weapon setup, y'know what I mean? Otherwise, yes crowd control and team support is a must have in a horde shooter.

Ya, I've noticed it a fair few times now, they'll now snag up trash mobs to heal. It was quite the surprise the first time I saw it and honestly, it still kinda surprises me. Gives more reason to have somebody on trash mob cleanup when possible.

I feel like after the rework, psyker is basically veteran but better. Need a ranged horde clear or even specialist targeting? Assail Psyker. Need to lockdown a horde? Smite psyker. Need to kill elites quickly? Brain burst psyker. Not to mention having the shield which is basically a better smoke grenade. And the greatest point about psyker is that they don't need ammo.

Psykers have much better/easier time keeping their toughness up too. Whereas rangers have to hide like it’s cod to regen toughness

I wonder how intrusive it would be if the smoke grenade had a circle indicator on the ground to show its area of effect since the smoke effect isn't the most obvious (thankfully too, imagine how much it would blind your own teammates). Still love the 'nades, great utility!

I love this Lasgun purely because it's the closest to the recoilless weapon all lasguns should be. I am a proud member of the Recoilless Lasgun club and this is a hill I will die on.

Lasguns actually do have recoil in 40k, because when they were first implemented some busybody complained that they'd have to retrain troops who were used to bullet weapons. So an artificial recoil mechanism was added in and nobody dared change it since. I believe The recon lasguns were made/tuned by the catachan, who have a history of not caring much about such conventions

@michaelkolano8686 No. That's some headcanon BS. I promise you you can't find a canon source for that because it's made up. Canon sources vary between recoil and recoilless, it depends on the author and is an example of the incontinency in 40k lore.

MkIX combat shotgun, the incendiary shell you load with special action is very potent, one shot it interrupts and reset enemy logic, 2 shots guarantee kill on many elites

i played today and a veteran used their smoke grenade....worst thing ive ever come across...its just smokes your friendlies...couldnt see a thing. Forces both your team mates and enemies to go into melee. cant wait til thats fixed.

Really impressive play here, very well done! Question though. Couldn't you make an argument for replacing infiltrate with Executioner Stance and it would just make you even more lethal? I didn't see infiltrate having a whole lot of impact here. It was mostly you carrying the build through skill in my estimation. Lots of shooting. Exe St would have just augmented your killing power :)

Oh wow you just straight up sentence another player to death with stealth and daemonhost. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about that interaction. I think the daemonhost should just be suprised and stand there for a second rather than swapping targets.

I've been loving this build for faster stealth revives and clutching in times of need but I cannot for the life of me understand how smoke grenades work. Game says it cuts line of sight so I usually throw it down before repairing servitors, yet enemies still target me over my allies that are not in the smoke. Do you have any idea how it works choco?

Only for ranged targets normal trash will run straight to you like it isn’t there

Shooters will either reposition or target your last known position. Shotgunners and melee mobs will run in

doesn't affect units in melee/coming to melee you. Makes normal shooter dudes reposition, gunners will keep firing at your last known position. Some units like trappers or shotgunners will run straight in to find you, snipers can see you through the smoke :) that's pretty much it. It's basically a "don't get shot" cloud, excluding snipers. Not useful everywhere but you might just get stuck in a long hallway packed with ranged, then it's a godsend. Very situational compared to 'nade go boom, but v helpful if you know when and where to pop it

@@isaacjones748 The thing with veteran is you're essentially immune to basically every ranged enemy that isn't sniper when you have the correct skills and amount of toughness. (such as 50% DR when above 75% toughness, toughness regen when killing "specials" which includes ragers/elites - it gives you 25% over time that stacks so you're just unkillable after your first elite gunner kill,...etc.) There should never be a situation in which veteran needs to hide from ranged enemies. Just shoot sniper(s) first and it's all free toughness regen.

His build isn't optimal. Better builds are way more powerful and not really fun to watch as youtube content. (melee-centric build with crutchsword cycler/sunder based on AOE shout that res teammate is far, far more powerful for both support and generally killing things that others have trouble killing)

@@the_furry_inside_your_walls639 literally just the melee build, with that ult/krak. Right side gets you access to rending on hit which works well with any fast-firing weapon like recon lasgun, which with infernus(pick either the fastest shooting one or the slowest) lv4 can melt pretty much anything. Crutchsword with lv4 cycler/sunder is needed to carry harder. Any good melee weapon will work but crutchsword is the best, it has infinite cleave with sunder.

The best support is one that kills enemies fast while remaining tanky, with krak grenade able to erase multiple clumped up crushers/bulwarks(sometimes they guard res points) if needed. The support part is where you press f to instantly revive multiple teammates. There's also a skill that lets team share some of your massive amount of toughness regen but that's not optimal to get. Stealth is actually garbage for support because while you can get a sneaky revive, you're dumping all of the aggro onto others on the team(like forcing dh to attack teammate with stealth at 7:06). Smoke is just a waste of slot.

Honestly this is true for this gameplay. So many instances where you go "What exactly is that smoke doing?" Krak would be perfect here. Armor punching and boss damage. Even stealth is just a bit of a waste in this game. It did indeed save himself a few times... By basically sacrificing his team. Zealot can use it much better setting up a thunder hammer or shedding out of troublesome scenarios. For veteran's role it's not really that helpful.

The instant revive support is even worse than the stealth. The cooldown increase and range reduction is massive, so much so that you literally have to be stood next to the person for it to work. You'd be better off taking the default AoE shout without the revive so you can knock over more enemies or the stealth so you can get the revive easier.

@@RatKing2137 yeah honestly if it stopped enemies from shooting into it, made enemies path around it and any enemies inside it dropped aggro until attacked, it would be more consistent imo.

@@Joeggurnaut546 The cooldown increase is nothing in practice, because you get 6s reduction off of a ~53s cooldown(12% cdr, which is optional) every time you kill a special, which is basically all the time in auric5maelstrom. See where I'm going with this? This build gets stronger exponentially the harder(mostly, more ridiculous) the modifier is, like mutant and poxburster gauntlet. (or you can play hunting ground, every dog counts) You are essentially guaranteed one free ult reset every 8 special kills, on top of the natural time passage, so in practice you can use the ult every 10-20s in combat(if your team goes down every 10-20s in combat then your run is not possible anyway). The knockback is useless against enemies you actually want to knockback. Taking it for the knockback is straight up worse than stealth.

Are you using an aim bot? The way you snap to a new target and keep it absolutely still on their head time after time is not natural. I guess it wouldn't matter too much since you're not playing competitively against other people. If you are just state so people dont think your legitimately doing these things.
