Not really S35VN has better edge retention but S45VN is more corrosion resistant. Basically its LC200N just slightly better on edge retention and little less corrosion resistant. I would say its just Crucibles LC200N. Great steel nothing that changes the world. It isn't Rex 121 or Maxamet or Vanax Super Clean.

One of my favourite western scene ever.. As far as the steel is concerned it's s35vn + 2% more Chromium.. I'm not sure if it needs more corrosion resistance.. I have several knives from several manufacturers in s35vn and Ive never had any rust or even discoloration yet and Kizer in that steel are my beaters layin' around and I live 1.5km from Javanese Sea.. There are more interesting steel , although not yet released but elmax 2 and m398 are 2most interesting looking... Look forward to get one of those.. Or vancron.. There is guy in Switzerland (Kase Knives) making some pretty amazing knives with relatively fair price.. Check him out

@@marekmasar5216 it's not about the corrison resistance for me, it's that the design will form more Vanadium carbide and less chromium Carbides thanks to the additional nitrogen shifting up what is forming in the steel with HT allowing the Niobium to do more work as well. Finer Carbides than s35vn and S30v at higher hardness of temps that dissolve the Carbides are used. Don't know or care what the production guys are doing with it, by I'm running it hard and will get fine structures.

I like the comparison of the movie scene and the blade steel as it relates to the knife community. I own knives in all three steels. I don't have enough experience with S45VN to make any informed speculations other than it seems to have promise. Regardless of S45VN's promise it doesn't mean I'm going to ditch my EDC in S35VN or its twin in S30V.

I know you’ve tried everything under the sun so my question is do you have any pointers and tips and is this even possible to get 60 HRC or more this way. Thank you for your time and knowledge that you share with us.

Really needs +2000f and a good soak and temp control to work best, I highly recommend getting a Evenheat KH418, worth every penny. I had a propane muffle furnace with a Thermocouple as well when I was getting started, It was a game changer when I got the electric furnace.

S45VN? What does it offer over S35VN? Seems like they went for better corrosion resistance.
@FearNoSteel4 жыл бұрын
We dissolve more chromium carbide, the Niobium pins grains better than Vanadium. The boost of Carbon and Nitrogen allows us to get more carbon in solution and more undissolved MC type Carbides. So we get finer structure, lower carbide volume for toughness and a better ratio of the harder MC type carbides rather than an overwhelming amount of M7C3 chromium Vanadium rich Carbide

@FearNoSteel4 жыл бұрын
More options for custom HT to hot rod it. In a production knife it may offer more wear resistant, Stability and corrison resistance than s35vn. Difficulty sharpening has more to due with techniques and tools rather than a particular steel being difficult unless the Geometry is thicker and HT is shit. Mostly though it's lack of techniques and tactics.

Where are the other super steels like elmax, vanax, m390, cpm m4, cpm cruwear, cts-xhp, maxamet, and cpm magnacut for example? Would of been funny if they mock s30v and s35vn. At this point, I don't think s30v and s35vn should be considered as super steel anymore. They should make it low budge now just like with d2 steel.

Funny... But I see no need for a more stainless S35VN, which is less tough. If I was looking for a tough steel, I'd be looking in totally different category, same is true for corrosion resistance. Yes, I think S45VN is well balanced, but these day, being the golden days of knife steels, there are just better options...3V, 4V, Vanax, Vancron, LC 200 come to mind.
@FearNoSteel4 жыл бұрын
Its not that it's more stainless, read the article in the description.
@derkleinemann2144 жыл бұрын
Big Brown Bear I did mate....and I stand to be corrected, but I understand it like this: S45VN has higher corrosion resistance, if only a bit, because of higher Cr in solution while Mo being equal to S30/S35VN. The pictures seem to add truth to that assumption. Am I mistaken?
