Thanks to AI, my company has been able to offer more services to its clients, and therefore, we have been hiring more software developers, it's not all doom and gloom. We used to cut certain features in the past because we didn't have the manpower, but now we can deliver more features. AI is making our job easier, but we have increased our workload instead of getting rid of developers. At the end of the day, no one knows how this is going to play out in the next 5 to 10 years. AI is disrupting, and there will be casualties along the way, but that doesn't mean software development is dead, but the role of software developers and what they do on a daily basis will change less coding and more other things

I'd be careful reading too much into these WEF reports. They are not hard facts or financials, but surveyed "opinions" from execs at multi national corporations giving global averages. The claims made can change from year to year. I'd encourage anyone to download the last 5-6 years worth of WEF reports and critically compare and contrast the claims made over time and look for trends. You will see plenty of inconsistencies and u-turns. Remember the "data" is surveyed "opinion"

I’m a software developer. I’ve been using CursorAI this last week extensively/obsessively. Honestly AI is not a silver bullet. But that isn’t discounting its usefulness. It’s not gonna take our jobs - but I’ll eat my words if I’m wrong. But I do think it will enrich our work: getting rid of the boring parts, improving quality, and increasing the possibilities / shorting timelines of big projects. The car may have gotten rid of the horse and buggy for the most part and made travel time shorter, but it didn’t remove the need for transportation and commutes. Get my drift?

As a career Executive Assistant, I can guarantee you that our roles will NEVER go away. Executives do not want to manage their calendars, book their own travel, order their own team lunches, etc. Without them entering all the necessary information into an AI tool, its just not going to happen. Plus none of the systems used are willing to work together (like MS products and Google products). So until they are willing to do all the work up front to set up their systems (which they won't), our jobs are relatively secure...especially as WE learn how to use AI to help us do OUR jobs faster and in a more automated way. Executive Assistants will be able to become more like Chiefs of Staff rather than a secretary. AI isn't the end of the administrative role, but it is the end of the administrative role "as we know it". What will happen is people will choose to hire the EA WITH AI experience or expertise over the EA with none.

@@OneFluffyMummy Not trying to argue with you or anything, but all of the things you mentioned are either already possible or will be possible with AI agents sooner than you think. The second people start adopting smart glasses or AI earbuds (similar to Airpods), you'll be able to tell these AI agents to do whatever you want with your voice, sort of like Siri, but smarter than a human. Fast food restaurants are already using AI in the drive thru. Anything that can be done online will eventually be automated with AI & then manual labor jobs shortly after.

So….you really do have a leg up when you are very knowledgeable about a topic, say software engineering. Whatever that field is, AI will definitely educate you to be better. AI needs to be heavily regulated, like energy and nuclear weapons. I don't care what anyone says: You can't just let technology wipe out and replace untold millions of jobs in a short period of time -- regardless of whether or not it will usher in a so-called "leisure economy." It would be catastrophic. People don't just derive income from their work, but also purpose. I can tell you, as a professional therapist, that if AI is left unchecked, mental illness will go through the roof.

On when the automobile become a common purchase, what was the disruption to everyone that directly or indirectly support horse based transportation. It drove a few into supporting cars as mechanics, but the vast majority of farmers, blacksmiths, stable boys, leather workers, etc., etc. were all forced to change radically or retire, or worse. It is the ripple effect downstream and upstream of the directly impacted jobs that are the real scope and impact. Very few people can jump into IT related roles, and IT roles WILL NOT be in extensive demand, as A.i. moving into self-healing and self-replicating systems. This is already established in the virtualization technologies that everyone has been adopting and using over the last 20 years. Datacenters will be completely automated, completely lights out environment via A.I. and robotics. All the IT job market data is COMPLETELY wrong. Only for the first wave of A.I. will need humans, the following waves WILL NOT need human direct support. So this report is misleading. How do I know this? 30 years in IT automation and integration for Fortune 10 firms. My role was to prepare for what is now coming to pass, what is now going to be reality in the next 5 years. Sorry but this report is just not what is going to happen.

Sounds actually meh... really. So ASI will be infinitely intelligent... but not smart enough to work on a construction site or build good-quality, affordable housing? Because why? Hard to believe that ASI wouldn’t be able to do construction. Sounds like the plan is to keep the price of housing high so it can continue to be an investment that corporations can profit from rather than fulfilling human needs. So humans are still going to be working crappy jobs, and there will be this huge psychiatric complex where people are brainwashed by "therapists" when they’re unhappy or don’t comply or behave. Sounds like they’re going to actually hinder ASI progress, or not use it to its full potential, so they can maintain the status quo.

A lot of companies in the UK use integrated AI programs, all linked to headsets for the colleagues on the floor. Everything that is happening is linked to the company system and represented as kpis and other statistics that management watch. The first to go will be management as they are literally 10 people doing 3 peoples jobs in a lot of cases right now. Entire sales teams will be replaced by websites and AI. Programmers, Accountants et al will all be displaced. What i love about AI is that all the people who tend to think they are better than the average person and more important will be humbled very quickly.

The AI coders that will be released this year won't replace software devs... yet. I don't think we'll see much of an increase in demand for HUMAN software devs this year and beyond though. As the AI coders improve, companies are more likely to keep their existing human staff to clean up the mess that the AI coders make and employ more of the AI coders since they will be much faster and cheaper. As AI tech improves and we achieve AGI and that tech is woven into these AI coders, then we'll see the demand for software devs evaporate like smoke. Why would you need a software dev then when coding is no harder than writing music in suno?

I would have to add another industry that will see a huge demand for AI, and this is the legal profession. Whether its transactional or litigational, 80% of the work is done behind the scenes…at the office reading and writing. This area can be expedited big time utilizing better technology - AI. Whether it’s summarizing, analyzing, formatting…the demand will be for paralegals, attorneys, secretaries (errr ‘executive administrative assistants’) who know how to utilize AI, and then pairing this with a fundamental understanding of Linux, Docker, packages, various OS systems to then import AI so that it can be customized to fit their cases…i.e. machine learning. Yes…it is harder to learn new things the older one gets (except Trump), but it’s either adapt or be laid off.

Many counselling and and therapy sessions are moving to voice and video calls. I know several people who have had counselling and it has taken several different counsellors to find one that suits their needs and that they get on with. AI can adapt quickly to ensure they achieve a strong rapport and have the depth and the breadth of the latest research including more advanced techniques such as cognitive behavioural therapy etc. in terms of social care many lonely and elderly people visit the doctors for social engagement. For those without families and friends AI can easily fulfil this role at a fraction of the price of a human social carer.

Just know that there are 100 million knowledge jobs in the US out of 160 million total jobs (really 157.5 million). Then think of a future 10 years from now where we could have up to a max of 66% unemployment that is most all permanent. Remember unemployment currently stands at 4%.

Context: This report was written and released before Trump took office, and before he made his (webcam) speech at the WEF in Davos on 24th Jan . I wonder how many of the CEOs who created this 'report' (survey), would give radically different predictions now, with the threat of global US tariffs looming? This tactic could result in retaliatory tit-for-tat tariffs placed upon US goods by nations all around the world. The multi-national CEOs guessed what would happen to jobs in this report - but now how many of them really know?

i don't get it , Big Data Science, Software Developing, these are tasks that an AI can do to perfection and completely autonomously and it will do it decentralized as owned Hardware. Why on earth should they need so much human developers? I can understand they gonna need a lot of experts to implement AI in the workflow, but this is a more or less one time job. By 2030 they very few high skilled people will be working for the most Companies.

Are you a developers ? Have you been in multi disciplinary team coordinating a lot of services, release, feature flag, users need, bugs ? How in the world an AI can do that when even the humans fail miserably 😂

@@morchellemusic2829 well i guess we will see , i doubt that very new high performing specialized models, that can constantly learn and that are interactive with users all the time, were not able to manage such things. Of course you still gonna need one human observer, but just one.

That very much depends on what is broken. Bolting new standardised or modular components is easy. Grinding material away building up with new weld and engineering new parts or reinforcement of damage not so much. Let's put it this way I repair a lot of different items. I have a very tangible understanding on how to produce suitable repairs and I know how to check the material quality of what is done. When a machine on a production line breaks it is vital that quick repairs are able to be offered in very short turn around. Now I certainly believe in self replicating bots but those will not be built by an organisation that sees there own margins as vital because there is a conflict of determination with self replication. Some bots will be able to deal with industrial processes yes but the risks of mounting dangerous equipment to an autonomous unit is something that the Artfical intelligence safety community are not going to allow. The other question is liability if a bot using an angle grinder to prepare a welded component slips and causes damage what liability or allocation of blame is going to be associated?

The World Economic Forum needs to separate agriculture workers into two categories tech and non-tech agriculture workers. Because people believe that growth in agriculture workers means people pulling food out of the ground and putting it in a basket. It's misleading to call them agriculture workers when it's computer coding, robot repair, drone pilot, and machine operators.

Mark 13:14 And he shall set up the abomination that makes desolate, until the decreed end is poured out on the desolator. I focus on the opportunities it presents. Unfortunately, some people may lose their jobs because they are unwilling to learn and grow.

If you don’t mind me asking, what skills are you growing with your use of ai? Are you learning how to prompt ai? Or are you learning how to train and develop neural networks? I don’t think a persons ability to prompt an LLM is going to ensure they have a future proof skill set. Prompting will continue to become easier and more vague, where children will be able to guide ai to creating what they want.

What’s that old saw about generals fighting the previous war? I wouldn’t put much stock in this report that summarizes the views of managers and CEOs, today’s “generals” busy fighting with tech and tactics from past wars. All of these lists will change considerably once AI reaches AGI and ASI levels of complexity and competency. For instance, government jobs. Mostly all government jobs consist of thinking, taking many things into account than coming us the most cost effect solutions keeping many factors in mind. Can you imagine a government body that no longer makes decisions based on bias and personal beliefs? I didn't see any indication of any government jobs being lost or replaced in this video, how come?
