He played exactly like a DD. Stealthy and hardly diving at all. He did not use acoustic torpedoes so the enemy couldn't determine his position. He was lucky that planes didn't pass overhead.

Игра с фланга, на свободной воде. Кидал обычные торпеды по указке из надводного положения. Вообще весь бой сыгран из надводного положения. При этом обнаруживать себя не давал. Сразу ушёл в тыл врага, успешно уничтожил вражеский авианосец. После чего догонял врагов и уничтожал. Точку А брать не стал - погнался за вражескими кораблями, погнался успешно. Контр-игры против него, никто из врагов не затеял. Да и некому было, весь бой в целом складывался победным с самого начала. Лучший образец, как надо использовать японскую подводную лодку I-56. Крейсер с дальнобойными торпедами. Непрерывный спам торпедами с дальней дистанции. Правда если эсминец вернётся назад, при том эсминец умеющий уворачиваться от торпед, то утопит.

Another video and another evidence that subs should only fire pinged torps and it's the only imbalance I see. Kill after kill he made sound tactical decisions, and at the end we see how pooled up ASW can take out a sub fast. The counter-play to subs is there, it's balanced, only the whole counter-play depends on subs at least announcing their presence by pinging. He wisely prioritizes the CV so no one can hope to spot him and from that point he played like a DD with total concealment impunity.

I mean... if any of them did anything but sail in a straight line at a constant speed he wouldn't of hit the majority of those torps. There is extremely easy counter play to what he's doing the enemy just isn't bothering. I mean the carrier was sat still. You don't generally see subs shooting the alternate torps from so far away for two reasons. They don't reload nearly as fast meaning you need to be more careful. And they don't have anywhere near the range or speed as this premium does. The US line can only fire them from 9km at this tier and the Germans have an even more restricted range. Honestly there are plenty of dd that can pull this off far easier and with massive walls of long range torps.

In addition to the cv being a dumb ass giving 0 effs to subs, their U-190 just wandered off against such a threatening opponent against whom he had a much stronger upper hand. They totally deserved the loss. The I-89 is highly prone to sub-on-sub combat due to its lack in sub survey and poor homing torpedoes, while the U-190 has a 9km sub survey and his BB teammates were pushing very aggressively. There are ways subs are unbalanced but this just isn't it.

Unbalanced af when you only miss one volley of torps and still kill half the enemy team , didn't even need to ping on most of them and it still killed.

Only partially agreed, he didn't fire near-inescapable self-guided torps, but regular dd torps form a huge range, it's 2022 by now any stupid CC/BB player who sails only straight and tunnel visions deserves all the torp humiliation they get... Only to be humiliated before they also had to sail within range of a DD and make a mistake. Now you basically have a ship type that can literally sail past the enemy lines and you die NOT cause of yours or your team mistake. And like I said in my comment all it takes is to force subs to use only pinged torps, that way they always announce their presence during attack, this allows evasive maneuvers, pooling up ASW, alerting CV to start spotting. If the display we see here is allowed to repeat than indeed subs are imbalanced, but only cause of 1 thing, the rest is pretty sound.
