I think in the past Wargaming had some notion of balancing range vs dps. Desmoine is a good example, where at long ranges you were at a disadvantage but if "risked" getting closer you could turn the tables. These days if you play a short range cruiser you are flat out at a disadvantage, long range cruisers punish you and if you do make it into range half the the time they still out dps you. Think of something like a Goliath chasing down a Hindenburg of Nevski, once you get them in range they still out dps you... It just doesn't make much sense to me.

Absolutely more viable than light cruisers that no one but john the ruthless plays. Its not the range of the guns thats the issue its the overmatch on every new ship.

Sov Soy is good. So is Jutland (better Somme) with torp angles and such. Mogador is also great. There are others I just can't think of them atm.

You said IFHE doesnt affect tier8 bbs when u shoot them with the montcalm, i tried both specs and it makes a difference even against tier8 absolute worth it and u still keep 8% fire chance. Totaly agree with Last Stand its a must have

Since we're at t6: how about graf Spee ship request? The wonky dispersion is now manageable w the new commander skills

For the Spee, learn the gun angles that focus the shells and slow down to tighten the grouping. Pointing forward, the front gun throws two shells together as a double sniper shot, and one shell up and to the right. Pointing at the most forward angle both guns can aim at, the pattern widens a bit, but it's a very decently packed broadside. It's only when you are perpendicular or aiming backwards that the dispersion goes to sh8. Even backward though, the rear gun tends to throw a flat fan with zero vertical dispersion, and that's good for broadsides as well.

Subs and CVs are pushing everyone up. High tiers have better AA, better ASW and more speed and range. It’s less painful to counter or run from subs & CVs. That’s my working theory anyway.

the reason is due to the age of the game. There are more t10 players than any other tier, OR there are higher tier players than any other low tier, for example, 3, 4, 5, 6. SO tier 7 are fewer than t9s, tier 8 are fewer than t10s, and thus get dragged into the more populous games such as tier 6 in tier 8, or tier 7 in tier 9 or tier 8 in tier 10. etc.
