Today we are building another tank for my new 'Crazy Blue' caridina shrimp with a small aquascape. We will use undergravel filter for this tank and ADA Amazonia soil. This type of filtration works excellent for caridina shrimp from my experience!

They are great looking shrimp. You seem to find the unique and gorgeous shrimp. I truly love your videos. They are very motivating for me. I have tried the hooka moss, or I think I heard it is also called hooker moss or at least in the US. I cannot seem to get it to grow in my tanks for some reason. I have in one tank red moss. That is a great looking moss, and grows crazy for me. Keep up the great video.

This is just a personal opinion that comes from my experience. I see that on all of your setup videos you only add plants very late into the cycle, and in most setup videos it takes over a month sometimes over 2 (with very rich nutrient soils like ADA amazonia) for you to register no ammonia. In my experience if you add plants on day 1 of the cycle the process is much faster. I would be interested in seeing a side by side cycle like you've done before but with the same soil, a soil that you know and like, and 1 tank gets moss and buce day 1 and the other one doesn't. And seeing the difference from build to 0 ammonia.

Great video! I think these were originally made by crossing tiger shrimp and blue bolts making them a type of tibee shrimp? Do you have any plans to selectively breed these to focus on a particular form/pattern, or are you going to leave them to see what they make over time?

Hey Nick, I had the same problem last year when I left my house on Christmas for three weeks without heating and the temperature dropped down to 12C or so. My shrimp stopped breeding for a few moths after that. I think they thought the winter came and instinct told them to stop breeding. Now I'm trying not to do it again and keep them nice and warm during the winter so they continue to breed all year around. Even though they slow down with breeding a bit during the winter no matter what you do.

Why do shrimp keepers use the bacterial powder method of popping a new tank? Me I've never kept shrimp but have done aquariums for 50 years, I normally go out to the lake and trap dozens of killie fish and other minnows and let them break the tank in. They are real hardy. Then I put them back into the lake. Is this a bad method for shrimp? (PS The wife and I are always on alert for gators) We are enjoying your videos too by the way!
@ShrimpMania
@ShrimpMania Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching my friends! I know what you mean. Caridina shrimp is a bit different they thrive when you have plenty of dust algae and biofilm in the tank because they feed on it and feel safe. Neocaridina (simple cherry shrimp) they are not depend on it as much as Caridina so you don't need to do so. If you don't have bacteria powder dosing any powdered food even crashed fish flakes also help to grow that biofilm in the tanks. You can cycle your tanks with fish as well, it would also work it's just the powder way gives you a bit better result at the end.
