@@js1465s they actually took out the side cavities on the 2019 model as they were prone to cracking on the 2016 and 2017

@@js1465s That's not true. They are very similar but they do have some differences. They were having issues with the faces caving on the '17 which was addressed in the '19. The easiest way to tell the difference between the '17 and '19 is the '19 doesn't have the black indent on the hosel for lie adjustment. You can clearly see it at 1:25 in this video, the '19 doesn't have it (I own a set of '19s)

@@js1465s Oh nice, Mizuno are doing great things with their irons. I'm lucky to live in New Zealand, we stamped out Covid early so life is essentially normal here. And it's summer (although our climate lets us play all year). I feel bad for the guys dealing with heavy winters and lockdowns.

Love the test videos and Mr. Potter's unique perspective. Rick please do one of these where you hit the exact same club as Rob does so we can see the comparative metrics differences between a pro and an amateur with the same club. I know the shafts, lengths, etc. may not be suited but I think it will give an interesting perspective on the numbers and performance. Keep 'em coming!

Great vid Rick and Rob. Very interesting discussion about why the lofts are so strong on these and other modern irons. It does beg the question though...How exactly do manufacturers define what a 7 iron is? Is it based on peak height or do they use robot testing and have a carry distance in mind? Or, is it now an entirely meaningless definition that varies completely from brand to brand? Finally, given that such strong lofts are now so much easier to hit due to the weight being moved to the bottom, do you see a time in the future where long irons will make a comeback for average golfers?

Rick, could the shaft between XR and M2 made the difference in the distance in this case? 3 MPH in ball speed is significant.
@metamurph
@metamurph 7 жыл бұрын
The only issue with the new format if you are counting "hit the green" is 1) you are doing to a fairly shallow spot and 2) if he did hit is a club longer (didn't happen) you would just be happy and move to a different club. so you could put 3 shots in a 10 foot circle in that bunker and then know that for once a mid-handicapper had too much club :-) But yeah the loft/COG/etc is wacky and he had decent spin numbers -- it is a good illustration of how the club ends up helping a mid-handicapper or high-handicapper. M1 will be very interesting here if he goes 9,9, ....8?

The length of the club also matters.Taylormade makes some of their sets slightly shorter than other manufacturers. Half of the distance comes from the length and half comes from the loft.

Hi Rob, nice job with Rick. I used to play to a 14. Have not played in 12 years (shoulder injury) , my muscle memory is all but non-existent. I am now 68, hitting 14 year old Ping I 3's, TaylorMade 3 & 5 "Burner" woods, Ping 56 degree wedge, Staff "Fatshaft" Lob Wedge, and lastly a Staff Fatshaft "Big Red Titanium" Driver. Would very much appreciate yours & Rick's thoughts between AP1, M1, I200 or G Model. I Feel like I am starting from scratch. I think I should invest in current clubs but, I am not certain what to get. If this helps, I used to hit my 7 iron to a 157 carry and a straight shot. Now, 146 (depressing) 7-SW Straight, 5 & 6, pushing a bit right. After 3 mths still not getting consistant crisp contact. (But, much better the last 6 weeks since watching the videos) I have been religiously watching Ricks videos and another Coach who resides at the Belfry. Not very impressed with most coaches on video (with the exception of Phil). Rick & "The Other Coach" take the time to explain structure. I would appreciate your comments at your earliest opportunity.

@tristanheijkoop1554
@tristanheijkoop1554 7 жыл бұрын
Jonsse You mean the height of the ball? That is because of the lower CG and vertical gear effect. Most of the time you will hit you ball above your CG and your club twists underneath it giving a higher launch angle.
@Jonsse
@Jonsse 7 жыл бұрын
No I'm just kinda joking. What I mean is when the center of gravity is not behind the impact spot (ie. lower), less energy is transferred in to the ball resulting in lower ball speed. The difference is negligible compared to all the other factors, but TM among others always brings out new clubs where the CG is even lower this year. Maybe they made one with the cg so low, the ball doesn't even fly far anymore.

Golf was never meant to be so complicated. And it isn't. You are addicted to each club must having a set loft. Technology. It's called progress. Never mind about the angles degrees spin and others. What difference does it make if he hits the greens with a 8,7, or 9 iron. Try the clubs if they suit you and you like them. Buy them. It's the result that matters. I have this set and they are the best by far that I tried.

Love the reviews from Rob but the marks seem way off... "bugger all feel" does not deserve a 7/10. Also feel the marks for looks, subjective as they are, are way too high. If this gets a 9/10 then a Mizuno MP5 must be 19/10.... ...I'm not saying these clubs look horrible, but a good looking club should be a 7/10, a thing of beauty should be 9/10 and up.
