Went from an Ace Hardware socket set to a Craftsman set years ago. They contine to serve me well and now Ace sells craftsman. As with any tool, you learn by experience what works. If you are busting knuckles over broken sockets and wratchets, its time to change brands. I use and abuse my tools, they do not sit in the box looking shiny and new. I recently broke my long 3/8 flex head wratchet from craftsman. It was replaced no questions asked. I broke it changing a sway bar linkage, no light weight job. I wouldnt mind a set of stubby gear wrenches.

I am slowly getting the upgraded ratchets. I have the 3/8” regular and extended non quick release ratchets and I honestly feel they are the best ratchets in my box. I like my 120xp ratchets and my snapon but always reach for these new Tektons.

The new 1/4 drive set fixes most of the minor problems of the old set. They added 4 and 4.5 mm, and have slim headed ratchets. Add a 1/8 for perfection.

Just got the tekton 3/8 and 1/4 metric socket sets. I like them but something i didnt find on any tool reviews or specs prior to buying them is the shallow sockets are about a 4th of an inch longer than most other brands and the deep sockets are about a 4th of an inch shorter. I may not keep them due to this, sometimes you need just that little bit to fit in a tight space on the shallows, and on the deeps you may need just that little extra to avoid needing an extension which might make you to long. Anyways just my 2cents, thankd for the vid

Really enjoy your channel, was a drive-by viewer for months but the more I watched, came to appreciate the effort & detail put into your videos. I was brought up on Craftsman, have a complete Grey Pneumatic 3/8" impact set I luv, some HF Pittsburgh Pro stuff, but after buying the Tekton 1/2" 25-250lb torque wrench 3+ yrs ago I've gone out of my way to seek out Tekton items before making any tool purchases (I'm just a home DIY wrencher). The 1/2" impact hand screwdriver for removing disc brakes set screws is a solid built tool as well. Glad to see a company that stands behind it's tools with a "always guaranteed" warranty can stand up to the higher priced brand names you put them all thru " torque truth tests" I like to think of them. Keep up the great content, surely keeping a lot of us sane in this time of quarantined "social distancing"....

It's on my list but I won't be able to do a full old to new set comparison as I only have the older 1/2" set and new 1/4" set. But I do have 1 new 1/2" drive deep socket in 21mm that I will compare old vs new socket. I can tell you that I like the new size stamping but they changed or removed the inner coating so I would stick with the old set of sockets if you have it. I do prefer the new ratchet over the old.

Are Tekton stubby wrenches made in Taiwan better than Gearwrench made in China? I just bought a Gearwrench stubby set from Carquest for $20 on sale. They are not reversible.
@ClientGraphics
@ClientGraphics 5 жыл бұрын
Pirouz Farhani They are very similar. The GearWrench I had were all 12pt but for something like a stubby wrench to me it’s about access so it’s kind of a wash and they again are stubbies so the tools never receive too much torque or use. Both are a decent brands so it might come down to Price or 6pt vs 12pt or the coverage you need. I believe Harbor Freight has a 7 Pc metric stubby ratcheting wrench set for under $20 if you use a coupon, while it's not a complete set it's a great bang for your $$$

Chris, what's your impression of the detents on the flex handle I read that on 3/8 Dr there not real positive and that it will easily move out of position. Would you recommend tekton tools
@ClientGraphics
@ClientGraphics 5 жыл бұрын
Just picked it up yesterday, but my first impression would be that the flex is better than the Harbor Freight ones that only work on friction. With a 17mm standard socket you can do a slow wave and it won't move but if you speed up it will and I didn't try a deep socket. It would to me be similar or better than some GearWrench that just use the single pin/ball detent. I guess I could put on my list to compare it to a Gearwrench one that I have at home if others are interested.

What else would you use a 5.5mm on? I know it's for a old GM distributor
@ClientGraphics
@ClientGraphics 5 жыл бұрын
Ford has some interior screws around the dash area on some models and a few stereos if I recall correctly. Seems like a lot of sets skip either 4.5 or 5.5 or both and if you were to need one they are likely $4 or more each. Now you could probably use pliers or a needle nose or something else since you can't tighten a little bolt like that very tight it might come down to access. Tekton is a big proponent of not skipping sizes. You don't even want to know how much a Snapon 4.5 shallow and deep socket will run you, $40.80 just for the 2 individual sockets. The entire Tekton Socket Set was $55
