I traded in my 986 for a Tesla Model 3 LR and I haven't missed driving the Porsche at all, mainly because the Tesla is MUCH faster and rides like a dream. Porsche really needs to increase the amount of horsepower in their vehicles, because paying $120,000 for a sports car that doesn't even have 400 horses is criminal in my opinion. Of course IF I had a Porsche with 400+ horses I WOULD choose to drive it over the Tesla, but I don't so I can't :)

I have a 2022 Model Y Performance and a 2017 991.2 C2s with all the handling goodies. Around town the Model Y is just perfect. Out on mountain roads the 911 is amazing and very very fast. The Model 3 Performance you tested probably handles way better than my Y. My Y has a low center of gravity but the suspension gets overwhelmed by the car's weight when pushing around bumpy corners. Not a good feeling. In contrast the 911 feels nimble and precise and very very stable and confidence inspiring. The Y is so fun off the line with electric instant torque. You have to work more with the 911 off the line and frankly the 911 is more about the handling for me. Perhaps you noticed heavier steering with the 911 due to the wider tires? Anyway, both are great vehicles-glad I have both. We drive the Model Y 99% of the time and save the 911 for those fun backroad drives with Waze running and a radar detector on:) Also the 911 is great for two person road trips as gas powered cars are still more convenient. When and if the new Tesla Roadster comes out that might be a 911 killer, but I plan to keep my 911 for a long long time. So fun. I will happily part with my Y for something electric and improved. The 911 is timeless. The Y is not. I will add that I come from a Sport Bike background and did a lot of track days, so the 911 is a substitute now that I am a senior citizen. Great video! Emphasis on the crucials and do not spend minutes on mindless intros. Love your way of presenting. I considered the M3 performance in August, but with the speed tickets I received with my previous M3 LR (in Norway radar detectors are disallowed), I know the temptations of the Performance would lead me to destitute.

A man after my own taste. Went from an Audi rs3 to model 3 performance which I’ll probably keep looking at adding a 997 gt3 for fun.
@theclifbar27 күн бұрын
They both have their place, though I agree the base model 911 is pretty outmatched by the Tesla. 911 Turbo is a better match, but it then costs $199,000 (4x the Model 3 Performance price) and weighs 3700 lbs, making it feel even heavier. Maybe a used Corvette or Cayman S with a 6MT is a better way to scratch the ICE itch. Having spent some time on the Autobahn, I can see why the 911 (and Taycan's) steering is so slow and ponderous. It's the price paid for stability at 260 km/h. But it's a heavy price, and irrelevant to pretty much every other auto market. It really makes the car feel bigger and less nimble. I really like your point of letting ICE cars still exist in the future, including the V12 and V16 monsters. If the goal is to reduce emissions, these ICE classics emit far less than 0.1% of total emissions. They probably will, just like people still ride horses for fun even though cars are "better" in nearly every way.

@MondernManАй бұрын
@@982SharkBlue Huh? In order to match the model 3 performance you've got to get the GTS which starts at $147k and go from there. The biggest problem with the Germans is the amount you need to pay - every feature is paid option - just to be competitive with the model 3 performance which is essentially a supped up family car.

The 911 outperforms the Tesla by miles in the depriciation category, in 2 years the M3 will be worth 50% and the 911 will be 90-95% adjusted for inflation

I read that a lot, while in France, Model 3s are some of the slowest depreciating cars on the first 3 years. A Performance loses a bit less than 32% of catalog price in 3 years while most cars have lost more than 40%. Why such an extreme difference with the US market?

It seems to me that the Tesla ticks so many boxes that it would be a great choice for ninety percent of most peoples motoring, you do not want noise all the time... For the other ten percent, when the sounds are essential, and you get all misty-eyed doing things you wouldn't confess, you have (depending on your bank balance), a Ferrari, Caterham Super 7, Ariel Atom or Nomad, BAC Mono, Ducati Monster... Whatever your fantasy desires... you get the picture!
@LawrenceMarkFearon26 күн бұрын
Two completely different purposes. One's the economic commuter. One's the driver's sports car. Few people cross shop them against each other and it shows in the depreciation.

Rules and regulations let companies make TRUE low production internal combustion cars, but low production is less than 100 units, Porsche make 1000s of 911s every year, it's not considered low volume production, same with Lamborghini Huracan (Temerario now) and Revuelto.
