Kris, you are seriously one of the best reviewers. You don't give in to the Tesla fanbois. I owned a model y for a year and have had my Polestar 2 for 1.5 years (as well as an ioniq 5 and gv60 performance and a bolt) and I am SOOOO glad to see someone lay it out straight, that the Polestar infotainment system is one of the best out there(certainly better than Tesla) and that there is no comparison as to ergonomic experience. Even the windshield wiper stalk as you (only KZbinr) pointed out the superiority of the Polestar wiper stalk in a previous video. Ergonomics was one of the biggest reasons I got rid of my Tesla. As well it didn't have cross sensor alerts, blind spot monitoring, 360 camera, all.of which ANY modern car should have let alone one that claims to be high tech. Also in maps you don't have an option to "avoid highways" which is ridiculous. Every map software I've ever experienced in my life has that option except Tesla. Again, thanks for laying out the truth, seems most other reviewers don't touch ( or at very very best glaze over) these glaring faults in Tesla's.

So true. I 100% share your opinion. Big thumb up for Kris for telling the truth and not giving in to Tesla fanboys. I own a P2 LRDM and the car ergonomics, infotainment, wipers with integrated nozzles and proper stalks, BLIS on mirror, 360, cross traffic alert are so good to use on everyday life compared to a Tesla. Polestar all the way for me.

I am a declared fanboy and i would buy a Polestar if - it would be a bit broader in the interior, had the same quality Software overall, access to Superchargers everywhere, not only in germany, would be a bit cheaper, less maintenance cost, better efficiency. And if the company would announce a new goal - support mankind on its transition to sustainable energy and fight the destruction of fossil ressources whenever and wherever they can. Tesla should copy the Matrix LED headlights.from Polestar.

All the Teslas I've driven have been disappointments: cheap interior , bad seats, harsh on anything but California-smooth roads.

I've done 69K miles in a Model S and now I have swapped it for a PS2. I won't buy another Tesla until the put stalks back on (or make the S in RHD). Maybe it's fine for the American interstate but not here with roundabouts etc. Physical UI design - we expect to find things in the same place and the indicators are dangerous as when turning they will be mirrored on the other side of the wheel so not only are you using a different hand but they are flipped. FSD is decades away still. Maybe is works on some well maintained wide American roads, but here where there are pot holes which whill break your wheel, horses, single track roads, worn out markings, floods etc etc it will won't work. Also agree that the PS2 with Ohlin suspension is in another league for ride and handling. Tesla's have too hard springs and I think too soft damping. My car even with air suspension you feel every road imperfection and it rocks left/right and front/back.

The Model 3 still takes a bit of a hit on practicality, with no rear hatch and only being able to tow 1000kgs it's still not a great choice for a one car family. The Polestar is more expensive and less economical to run, but it fills up the space between the model 3 and Model Y very nicely, while being more of a real car and less a tech gadget. It's also shorter than a model 3 and takes up way less space than a Y, while having decent space and it can tow 1500kg's. The interior is not as cramped as the centre console and tiny windows makes it feel. (I wouldn't have bought one without the 360 degree cameras) I personally also like how Polestar stays in the middle between Tesla and the rest when it comes to infotainment and controls, not too many buttons, but also not too few buttons. While Tesla is definitely too dependent on the screen, some brands like Hyundai has waay to many buttons and controls.

To my mind all the changes on the Tesla, like removing the stalks and gear selector, are not for the owners updated enjoyment because the most used devices in the car (apart from the steering wheel itself) is the indicators and gear selector. It just complicates daily usage with these functions either buried in the central screen or constantly moving with the steering wheel. I get it that these cars are supposed to be moving to FSD and removing physical stalks and buttons is ideal if no-one is behind the wheel. But lets face it, FSD will not be envisaged for years, so while there are drivers operating the vehicle, don't take away devices people are used to so the financial bottom line can be bolstered.

Being tall I think Polestar could have done something about that centre console definitely makes the driver and passenger area in front of the P2 very claustrophic/cocoon'ish. But you are right it has stalks and do prefer the look of the P2 over the M3. All the Tesla cars look the same as each other only stretched or squished. I also like the P2 philosophy on recycled materials and even designing it with EOL in mind and how recyclable the car will be. Something Tesla has not said much about. Hoping in future Polestar will put the P2 on a dedicated EV platform and remove that stupid transmission tunnel and remove that massive centre console, open it up. I prefer the P2 and means I'm not helping the head of T financially.
@colossus_g
@colossus_g 9 ай бұрын
I am 6' tall and the centre tunnel does not bother me. I do not sit in the back, but when that has been used, I have not had any complaints about it being cramped. IMO, this 'flat floor' creating space is a bit of marketing BS. They need to sell cars and find something to differentiate them. If you look back 50+ years, most cars had ample space ... they had bench seats in the front! The new 'modern' cars are really not modern at all and are rehashing stuff that was done away with many years ago. Consider using that wasted space between the seats for extra battery capacity and having extra range, or making the cars smaller with the same range as now and being more 'city friendly'. All without giving up comfort.
@TassieEV
@TassieEV 9 ай бұрын
@@colossus_g Well I've had two other 6'+ try it and both of them commented about it being far too 'cosy' in the drivers seat so I'm not alone. Will be good when the do a overhaul at a future point and use a bespoke EV chassis instead of a modified ICE one.
@colossus_g
@colossus_g 9 ай бұрын
@@TassieEV a thought for you. Most small to mid sized ICE cars are front wheel drive. In fact you will be struggling to find RWD versions so the centre tunnel doesn't house a driveshaft and gearbox. So why are they still there? I think you will find the answer has to do with the structural rigidy of the monocoque shell. Tesla did away with it by using the battery pack for that function and making the construction cheaper, and most other manufacturers are copying that idea. The operative word being "cheaper". The Polestar is a sports sedan. IMO, no other EV currently (apart from maybe a Porsche Taycan which costs mega bucks) can compete with it from a dynamic perspective despite it's hefty mass. ...why? because it has a good chassis. Look up one of these giving supercars the hurry up on the Nurburgring. A Tesla may be fast in a straight line but is not in the same league in that respect. There are reasons the centre tunnel is there and hundreds of years of engineering should not be so readily discounted.

Great non tesla fanboi comparison. Thanks!!! I am in the market for a new EV, to replace my Tesla Model X (100D) 2017. From my experience with Tesla, It is quite weird to get rid of the wiper stalk, as the autowiper software looks to be designed for countries with less than 1 day of rain, mentioned software for my car is still beta even after 6 years. Even after multiple software updates, it is not working properly, decided to switch off autowiper to classic wiper and engaging the wiper manually (on a €k150 car🤦🏾‍♂️) Removing the stalk for the turn signal makes no sense either, unless you used to be a BMW driver (no offense 😜), with a country with roundabouts on every corner. What surprises me is the boot of the Tesla is still a sedan boot, not a “5th door” (yeah “buy a Model Y instead”, would be an option if not Tesla is not changing the price of the car every other day, even the stock market is less volatile). Quite usefull with the Tesla is the navigation and supercharger stops. At least the Geely cars have the charging ports at the same spot as Tesla, So there is no problem at the supercharger stalls. Planned a testdrive with the Polestar 2 and Zeekr 001 the next few weeks. Let’s see if one of these cars can replace my Model X (despite the software glitches and expensive hardware updates, questionable built quality, it is still a fine car).

I would get the new Tesla Model 3, looking forward for a test drive when possible. It seems the improvements in suspension + new tyres, cabin noise reduction with acoustic glass all around and better seats should improve the overall comfort in the car, which was definitely a week point on the older Tesla Model 3. Yes I don't like they ditched the stalks. Unfortunately Polestar 2 is too small and much more expensive when comparing to Tesla Model 3, to consider it. Also IONITY announced recently in an interview with Tesla Bjorn that they will not invest in East and South-East of Europe (RO, BG, GR, SRB, etc). Meanwhile Tesla is building charging sites in the region every year, and selling thousands of cars on a market (like Romania) that doubles every year and expected to reach 15% market share (full BEV) and 30% (BEV + Hybrids) this year, recently surpassing diesel sells. Btw, in Romania there is a 11500 euro government rebate for EVs, that brings a Tesla Model 3 RWD at around 30.000 euro. I can't even configure a similar gasoline Skoda or VW at this price.

The Tesla model 3 should have added a power lift frunk and bumper camera. A birds eye view backup cam would have also been nice. Tesla instructions show using both hands to close the frunk and if you just retrieved something from the frunk you don't have both hands free, a EV in this price range should have a power frunk. Everyone needs a way to see the curb in front of the car when parking so they don't hit it, a bumper camera is the only way to see it. Tesla competitors should make a list of everything Tesla refuses to give customers and offer ALL of them, not just leather.

The door armrest is so thin and hard that it is difficult to use it in a comfy way. the menus of P2 are somewhat not very intuitive, and difficult to navigate. Of course once familiarised, I suppose easier. cabin is cramped, very few storages, no place to put your phone and see the screen. The audio controls above the gear lever are difficult to access. At the same time, cabin setting confers a cocoon feeling I like very much, quite unique in the EV offer. pity that P2 requires to pay 15p more than Tesla 3

Owned Tesla Model S 10 years 137,000 miles not an I pad fan. Your right but once you learn Tesla its good, once you talk to Tesla its great. Tesla performance the best but the game changer.....you want to use Tesla as a CAR and go distance then Supercharger network integrated to satnav .......still a game changer.

In the end it always comes down to personal preference. I like the spartanic interior and the tech/nerdy Tesla, I would always go for a Tesla. But if you don't want that then Tesla isn't the right choice. However pure on performance/aerodynamics/efficiency Tesla is the benchmark. We will see if Tesla can improve the quality to an "EU" standard.

bah now that they reduced the max speed to 201km/h the P2 is even faster. As for the 0-100 it’s pretty much the same. At least for now as performance TM3 is not yet released. But anyhow who needs a 0-100 lower than 4.5s. the current LRDM is well enough for me

Some things Tesla has going for it is that it's proven technology that has been in production for many years and there are no changes to the powertrain and that's a good thing. And Tesla has the best and largest charging network that no automaker can ever catch up to so if you travel long distance in your car that matters, at least in the US.

as a car lover and not least electric, I would definitely choose the highland over the polestar 2. And yes, of course I have owned and still own, among other things, both the polestar 2 and Tesla. Value for money, technical specifications, cd value and energy efficiency, octovalve, space, software and awesome app, Tesla's own charging network +++ And yes, I prefer Tesla's seats over polestar 2's. The plank in front of the main seat for sensors etc. was hugely annoying. The same applies to the floor in the cabin on the driver's side, which shifts up too much in relation to the pedals. Polestar 2 is built on a fossil platform, which is both negative and impractical. It's a shame that Highland has removed the levers on the steering wheel, which is a clear minus. Otherwise, a lot of positives with Higland if you really focus on the improvements 😊😊

Who on earth use Elton when you can charge at Tesla for just a fraction of the price Elton app gives?

Because Teslas aren’t the only EVs on the market? And not all Tesla chargers are open to the public. Tesla don’t have many chargers in cities either, here other CPOs are much better. Non Tesla’s only peak at 170-180kW at SC. For many people speed and flexibility is more important than charging at the cheapest chargers. These are just a few reasons, but there are many more.
@cofal79

@@KrisRifa so paying 4 times the price for just a few min faster charging? Sorry but I have issues with that, I really do. As if price is not important on chargers, then you can just pick Diesel and all problems will be gone about refill speed! As you say price dont matter... Also the Chargers off limit for non Teslas are pretty few, They are so few I actually call it a non issue! And if you want flexibility... You dont buy an EV in the first place! But I guess its easy to say its better with flexibility when you charge for free at Elton supported chargers. Rest of us pay 8 NoK down to 6+ And at Tesla one pay 2 to 3 Nok for a kWh, that is with the monthly fee, that is earned so fast just on a few charges your already saving money.

Objectively the 3 is better is most ways.....however the humans don't always buy cars straight on objectivity, there is elements of subjectivity which is why some people will go for the polestar or ioniq6 or other competitor. The 3/Y will continue to dominate though, as it is the benchmark.
