I guess if you have more time in Cairo and in the Giza plateau. If you plan to spend time visiting the pyramids, surrounding area, camel ride, interior of pyramids etc, it would distract from going to other areas, I would think. So many ppl I talk to have gone to Egypt but didn’t have time to visit Upper Egypt. I encourage doing so. The original museum at Tahrir square is rich in artifacts and worth spending the time. Egyptian food is delicious. I believe that, fast food place has a bit “airport “ feel, they could have done a little better honoring the culture of Egypt as to food. @EgyptAdventuresTravel11 ай бұрын
I'd estimate it's less than 5%. None of the galleries are open, just the Grand Staircase, and then five objects on display in the Great Hall. That's it. I would focus on the original Egyptian Museum (Old Museum) in Tahrir Square, and also the NMEC, and then if you have more time, add in the GEM.

Hey Daniel, I recommend the GEM if you have 3-4 days in Cairo, but with just one or two days, to me it’s not worth it. The Egyptian Museum Cairo (old museum) Tahrir Square is still the best museum to visit in terms of what’s on display. And the NMEC is great too for the mummies.

0:37 I do not understand anything about the monuments or how to display them, but first of all it is stupid to place statues on stairs. First, it is unsafe when moving them. Second, the public will stand on the stairs in a strange way, which will lead to the person being unbalanced. A very, very bad design.
@EgyptAdventuresTravel7 ай бұрын
I think once the thousands of other artifacts and all the other galleries actually open, this area of the museum will be just a small part of the collection, so any of those issues will be mitigated. But I’ve heard a few other people share the same thing. I was just at the museum a few days ago, and the layout didn’t seem to be disruptive and everyone seemed to enjoy experiencing the monuments up close.

??? Why would anyone EVER put museum exhibits on a stairway??? So sad. It look's like the museum is built as a high-end giftshop!!
@EgyptAdventuresTravel Жыл бұрын
This exhibit is a very small amount of what will be on display, as none of the museum galleries are open yet. Once everything is fully open, I’ll do another video, so that my viewers can decide if visiting the GEM is worth it to them or not. And if not, there are plenty of other amazing antiquities to see in Egypt.

Fixed prices? Wow. I never got to Egypt when I worked in the ME but now I’m glad. The horror stories about the museum - although it would have been nice to see the old one - like being extorted for more money to get in to see Tut, turned me off. This looks beautiful. But fixed prices surprises me. I LOATHED every second of every negotiation for 9 years overseas, including the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, and souks in Saudi/Bahrain. Just pick a price and stop torturing me/wasting my time! 😅

Statues on stairs? What were they thinking about? This will cause chaos. Everyone will be stopping to look and take pictures, and then they will step backwards for a better shot - and go tumbling down the stairs. Especially the rolly-polly Americans, who will roll to the bottom, taking another 50 tourists with them. “Hey Wilbur, this ain’t a bowling alley….!!” R

Akhenaten and Hatshepsut were New Kingdom, not Middle Kingdom. Bad way to start an advertisement for exploring Egypt.
@EgyptAdventuresTravel Жыл бұрын
The Middle Kingdom statues I was referring to were for Senusret (the large ones at the start of the stairs) and yes, totally right, Hatshepsut and Akhenaten are New Kingdom-sorry if the wording in the video was confusing. The first section features statues from a mix of time periods, including Middle Kingdom and New Kingdom.

what's wrong with them? they want 1200 EGP per person (almost 40 bucks!!!!) just to enter one exhibition in an unfinished museum? What a joke ...
@EgyptAdventuresTravel Жыл бұрын
Ticket prices are now 1000 EGP for entry (it’s 1200 EGP including the Tut show, which I don’t recommend unless for families with kids ages 4-12). I agree it’s a lot, but I think they’re trying to set ticket prices at a rate where with all the currency issues and devaluations they won’t have to keep raising them. Wait until the full opening and then grab your tickets to see everything 💪🏼

looks like a mall you see everyday it takes away all the magic from the artifacts and the feel of it being ancient with all these lights and modern architecture I prefer the old museum way more humble and no fancy stuff makes you appreciate the stuff in it. very poor choice of architecture for the GEM

@@garrywallace1007 definitely there will be tons to see besides shops, but I will say that around half of my clients coming to Egypt want to shop, and the options at the GEM are amazing because of the quality of what they have, in combination with no hassle and no need to bargain (and the fixed prices are super reasonable). However, I’m most looking forward to the full opening, so everyone can have what they want: a ton of history, some shopping, food, coffee, a kid’s center, etc. If only the opening were happening tomorrow 😂

The museum hasn’t fully opened yet, and I’ve already visited several times, so I knew what I was getting into-I wanted to show my viewers what to expect if they decide to visit the GEM. Think of this video as an “unboxing” so you can know what you’re paying for, before you decide to pay or not 😎. For most people, the GEM still isn’t worth the visit. Hoping for the full opening soon!

Egypt is short on foreign currency in cash, so they are only accepting credit cards now, in order to increase reserves of foreign currency. I wish that cash were still an option, but I’m glad that tourists can now buy tickets in advance, online.

why obsessed with the shops? there is no tour ..its an add click bait
@EgyptAdventuresTravel9 ай бұрын
I guess I’m obsessed with the shops because for so long, gift shops in Egypt have been focused on made-in-China trinkets, and we finally are seeing Egyptian artisans and local design collectives (like Cairopolitan) take center stage, which I love! At this point, this video is an accurate representation of what is currently on display at the GEM. There is no tour aside from what you see in the video, because at this point, a very limited amount of areas are open. Looking forward to doing a longer video more focused on the exhibits, once more areas are opened up. Thank you for watching and for commenting 😊
