I use room temp distilled or pull water out of my refrigerator filtered water. I always soak my wigs in a small amount of cold or room temp water with a full cap of Downy or snuggle that are fragrances that aren't as laundry scented. I'm using amber and honeysuckle. I also use linen scented Lysol spray and give them a light spray inside the cap when I spray them with fabric softener mixed with water after I've worn. have you thought of dreft? I think it's called. I got these cool belt hangers at Dollar Tree. I turn mine inside out and hang them by the tag in the shower or on a tree limb if it's a great day!

Honestly, I have noticed that after using the wig products, my hair looks damaged! I spayed one side of one just to check and the "conditioner" made it clumpy and nasty. I'm going to do this. Also, get a Megahome water distiller. Do I sell them, no. But I've had two over the past 18 years. It makes a gallon at once (once or twice a day), and they aren't really that expensive. We have well water too, and that makes the very best water!

Sorry to ask a silly question but I am definitely new to wigs. I've been binging on your videos this last week. This wig that you wash has the Heat Friendly Fibers and the one I'm interested in does as well. I'm not one to style the hair, I like it just as it is. It is the Crowd Pleaser by Raquel Welch. My concern is that the curl it has, which is my reason for buying, will all fall out at the first washing. This one you are showing seems to keep the wave but I was told it wouldn't be the same. If you could advise I would really appreciate it. Thanks for your informative videos. ❤️

Hi Julie! Ok, first....don't panic because I went through the EXACT same thing with Ignite when I got her. You will notice my struggles if you watched my Wig Chat w/ Ignite! haha! Don't do anything quite yet to her...give it some time. I had ALL kinds of plans I was going to do with her....but, the shape is beautiful (cut etc...) already...and finally she started growing on me. The longer front makes for versatility w/ styling...and Ignite has now become my favorite wig! Try wearing headbands in her...clip her back and have some fun working with her. Do what you need to (styling wise) to make her 'feel' comfortable for you. You will eventually wear her w/ confidence, and really grow to enjoy the gorgeous styling that is in there. Keep me updated!

How do you ensure the wig rack does not mess up the lace front on a 100% hand tied wig. I had bought the stands that one puts together and I also bought a wig rack that hangs in the shower similar to the little stands. Both are with the wig right side up not upside down. The hanging one looked like it would mess up the lace front so I am using the little stand. When I have had open wefts I have been able to hand upside down on a hanger but not with a 100% hand tied wig.
@JillLynnBeautyTherapy6 жыл бұрын
Jackie Savoy Hi Jackie! I just put the wig on the stand to dry being careful to make sure the lace front drapes nicely between the two tab delios. I have never had a problem with the rack ruining the lace if I make sure I do that. Once I did dry a wig and the lace dried a little buckled because it was over one of those tabs. :(

Jill, Great video! You're always so informational and info is needed. When I purchased my first wig 17 years ago, in a wig shop, they told me about Woolite. I skipped a lot of years wearing a wig and here I am again. A lot has changed and for the better. What is your opinion on the leave in spray detangler at the end of the day, do you use it?
@JillLynnBeautyTherapy7 жыл бұрын
Hi Zanetta! I wish I would have known about the woolite earlier! :( I am up in the air about the leave in detangler...it does help to detangle, but I don't like how the fibers 'feel' when it's on. Kind of sticky and takes away the softness. Someone suggested just diluting some fabric softener in some water in a spray bottle and use that! I am going to try it soon! Have you used the detangler spray?

Really enjoyed this video, and many of your others, as I am brand new to wigs also. You mentioned that you are on hard well water, and that struck a cord, because I am as well. I never thought of that potential problem until I watched your video! However, we do have a water softener, so the high mineral level is down, or non-existent, but the water softener ingredients leave something else in the water....not sure what it is.... maybe high sodium from the softener crystals? I notice on my shower curtain after a few days. Do you run a water softener with your well, or is it just the very hard water that you used, when you washed your first wig and ruined it? I'm curious to know, because I'm afraid to wash mine now, even with the softened water! I was planning on getting several bottles of distilled water, but I agree that the rinsing would sure take a lot, especially if you have a few wigs to wash! I only have one right now, but two more on the way, and have ordered all the JR hair care products. I will have the Woolite and the free and gentle Downy on hand, but think I should try my JR products first! Dilemma! (BTW it's my husband in the picture, but I wear the wigs! LOL)

Roy&Mavis Tanner If you boil your well water a couple of minutes in a big pot, and then let it cool down to room temperature, most of the minerals will ‚fall out‘ and accumulate as loose, white sediment on the bottom of the pot. The water isn’t quite as ‚clean‘ as distilled water, but it I should work for this purpose. 🙂

I watched glamfam lastnight and he says he uses woolite on his wife's wigs too, he says no need to condition because the synthetic wigs are plastic and can't absorb the conditioner anyway. I have tried adding body by drying upside down and it doesn't seem to do much of anything for my reese.
@JillLynnBeautyTherapy7 жыл бұрын

Hi Do you find that using the Downy brings back that fake looking synthetic wig shine that we try to eliminate with dry shampoo?
@JillLynnBeautyTherapy6 жыл бұрын
Really great question. Contrary to what I have read and learned from some others....I have not found washing an overly shiny wig takes away that shine. I know that wasn't your question...Haha. So, with that said, I have not found using fabric softener brings 'back' the shine we try to get rid of. It does 'restore' the fibers by bringing back that softness and silky look that I think just looks like healthy hair. HOWEVER, that wig you are going to soak in fabric softener... that you used dry shampoo on to take away the fake hair shine look will look like it did before you used dry shampoo because the dry shampoo will indeed wash out. This is why I mentioned that I have not found washing dulls down shiny wigs in my personal experience. Fabric softener does not make it worse....but soaking/washing in general WILL take out the dry shampoo.....so, you most likely may be re-applying it if the shine is bothersome. I am sure there was a much more efficient way to explain this, so for that....I apologize. LOL

The Mariska comes in an average size cap now in case you’re interested. I’m turning 60 this year and it’s so hard to find a wig that isn’t too “wiggy looking” and flatters an older person. How often can you wash your wig?

I never thought of using Woolite to clean the wigs. That's a genius idea. I always , always condition with fabric softener but when the wigs are in real need of an uplift, I soak the wig in boiling water. It works very well to revive!

HI Catherine! I am so happy that this helped you a little. ;) I too was looking for a way to 'clean' my wigs without destroying them! ha! I have never heard of the boiling water thing. Do you only do that to your HD fibers/wigs? Very interesting! Thanks for watching, and for posting too! Hugs~

Excellent video… I’m going to take the plunge and wash my editors pic tomorrow… Yikes! She’s so gummy I feel sorry for her, but I feel confident she’ll come back to life. I’m not going to use woolite, I’m just going to use fabric softener

you are definitely the person for wig questions, but your videos are too long. I know I would appreciate just going over what your video is about and not so much chatting

Julie Mehlhaff they are called Wig CHATS for a reason. They are not traditional wig reviews at all... usually they are my first impressions and share my experience, thoughts and feelings. It’s just the way I do things. 😉. Thanks for tuning in... I do appreciate it!

Very informative. Please show a video on hanging a wig upside down to dry.
