I started my Truckin career 12 years ago with Gordon food service. I was working out of Aberdeen when it was just a domicile yard. These were the wild West days of GFS when we were still doing paper logs lol. When those zebra handhelds started, and we could log with those, that change the game. My accuracy went up, my cases per hour, went up, all of that. my truck averaged 1600 to 1800 cases per load and it wore me out lol. I did it for almost 5 years before my body started feeling the effects of it. I will say this, it is a young man’s game. You’re dead on about being a new driver, and making great money; it changed my life when I started with them. But, if you’re starting in your 30s, or dare I say 40s, you really have to take care of your body. One more perk with GFS when you have an overnight route, is finding a good hotel, and racking up the loyalty points on the company dime. Because when you go on that much deserved vacation, you can treat your family to a nice room anywhere in the country that’s within that hotel net work for free. I was still using Hyatt points two years after I left. While I’m not in the restaurant food service industry anymore, I’m glad I started my Truckin career in it. it made me a better driver, because I had to drive in precarious situation‘s often. But I made good money, I was in great shape, I had fun because I was always in competition with my coworkers, and it gave me a great base to begin my trucking career Good luck to all those who see this video and give it a shot. Take it from me, you could do a lot worse than this. This is a great start.

How hard is this job really? Everyone seems to say it's difficult. What makes it hard? The long hours and work-life balance? Or the physical labor itself? Or a mix of both?
@imanthonytv2 жыл бұрын
For some people it could be both. I personally think it’s more so the physical aspect of the job. Some of the cases can be 50lb-75lb per case so imagine loading a dolly with several of those cases at a time. Obviously, you should only lift what you’re physically capable of handling safely but going up & down a ramp all day can be tiresome. It’s a little less intensive if you have a lift gate but you still have to run the cases inside the customer with a dolly. It’s tougher for some more than others.

Hey Anthony I got a question? When you say MCLANE will train you with no CDL, does that mean all I need is my permit? I appreciate you dude. My I misunderstood? But thanks IF you can clarify.
@imanthonytv Жыл бұрын
McLane has a 6 month complete driver trainee program which essentially trains drivers on obtaining their Class A CDL to become a driver. It doesn’t state anything about needing a permit in the job requirements. Also, I’m not sure if the program is available at all locations so you would need to reach out to them to clarify.

Personally I don’t like that gfs pays someone with a fresh license the same as someone with several years the same, specially when they have delivery experience
@imanthonytv2 жыл бұрын
It’s not necessarily due to the company itself. There are new driver’s fresh out of school working for other companies like Sysco for example who are making more than some experienced drivers. Experience driver’s who have seniority typically get the best routes. However, that doesn’t mean new driver’s can’t still make 80+ yr. It’s really going to come down to the amount of cases, miles, & hrs, that person works.
@dallaskubano2142 жыл бұрын
@@imanthonytv your right. But I’m saying off the bat. Experienced delivery drivers coming in to a new company should atleast get level 2 pay.

Do you have to be 21 or could you be 18. I’m 19 and plan to get my class A cdl but I’ve seen a lot of jobs that you need to be 21
@imanthonytv2 жыл бұрын
Well I guess it would depend on the position you’re applying for. To drive a tractor trailer you must be a minimum of 21. However, if you’re applying for van delivery driver the minimum age is 18. I think becoming a van delivery driver if you’re 18 may not be a bad idea if your goal is to eventually drive the semi. You could easily move to a semi driver position once you become 21 and you’ll already have experience doing the job. All locations may not have van delivery driver’s so check with the location nearest you. I know the Key West, FL location has van drivers. Good luck. 👍🏾
@snailingbautista57952 жыл бұрын
I had the same issue, I got my Cdl when I was 20. Maverick Transportation hires yard jockey “you will only be moving trailers and backing up” but at least it’s a good start. I’m working for them right now and I’m getting paid 26/hr home daily. Good luck!
