To me it seems like a cool collab feature, but it's VERY important that each streamer has the opportunity to opt-in if they want this (not opt out), because I understand there would be social pressure to collab w someone when you don't want to. There also obviously shouldn't be automatic camera access lol?? Other than that I don't mind the idea, it's how it was executed that's really inconsiderate towards streamers.

Great on paper and I can see why some streamers are for it. But for the faceless, PNGtuber, Vtubers it's terrifying. They could have done that without the forced face cam.

I think it def needed a better rollout, like a Twitch stream where they demonstrate how to choose who you want to let knock or how to turn it off and just use the favorites option by adding your friends.

This feature is okay, but is very dangerous "to get randomly" specifically if the streamer doesn't want to be bothered by this. I would love to have option to turn it off because this part isn't available yet. + This feature only appears while you're streaming, when you're not it won't show for yourself only. Stay safe out there

My main issue is 1, it seems like they didn't live test this at all especially since they have so many old features they should fix first before coming around to this, 2 the fact you cant turn it off at all along with the auto cam turn on which is frankly gross negligence for any streamers who don't show their face and dox them. Also not a lot of streamers don't do sudden collabs like that from what I've seen, a lot is planned out BEFOREHAND.

As a Vtuber I will probably not use this feature butttt I understand there are a lot of streamers who this will benefit and I don’t think every new feature needs to be loved or used by all to be good for twitch. I just want twitch to give everyone stream streaks so my chat can flex 😂 they need to bring the opt out though for anyone who don’t want to use the feature!

The camera thing is what irritated me. If you're a faceless creator (Vtuber, PNGtuber, or someone who just doesn't use face cam) then you're not likely to have a program using the camera while you're streaming. So if Twitch is going to access your camera, then it's probably free to do so. That's kind of annoying.

What I find even weirder is that people who are comfortable showing their face can't since using the camera on their own stream blocks the browser from using it. Do the people making this stuff have any idea how streamers actually stream?

Would be awesome if it was an opt-in feature. Talking to people in your stream chat of five or so people that you can moderate and talking to a huge streamer and their following are two completely different things.

you wanna turn off twitches annoying new Knock feature? head to your creator dashboard > go to the stream manager press the white arrow ( which i think twitch hid on purpose ) Hit Edit Stream Mananger Panels you should see a panel on the side with a plus sign > ( to the right of the creator dashboard ) Go to the New Collaborations tab > drag and drop to your dashboard > Hit persmissions > Uncheck Everything > now hit the tab that says pause collabs for this channel > Hit the For this stream tab > you can also disable your favorites from knocking on you, congrats you have now turned off the annoying knock feature absolutley no one wanted, youre welcome random stranger!

as long a they have a perma button to switch it off and the camera feature don turn on to reveal the vtubers i think the thing is fine. I think its best too that no one else knows but the streamer is able to see when someone come knocking in the midst of the stream

Good idea: Allowing two streamers doing the same thing to collaborate on the fly. Bad idea: Making it have the loosest security option as the default state. Twitch has had so many issues with hate raids and targeted abuse of their moderation, it's almost a joke. We can find positives while still admitting the current implementation introduces new risks that might not be worth it for some creators. Look at all the people who claimed Toaster was just crashing people's streams and taking them over. Imagine big creators guilting smaller ones into giving them center stage in their own venue. Knock is a good idea that I can absolutely see the value in, but I think it needed a period of volunteer testing to work out problems.

6:57 afaik is short for (As Far As I Know), but going with the subject of the feature it's just added for the sake of people not using features already on the platform so they had to add something new to get people intrested in it instead of trying to "revive" older features which are not used as often.

The feature needs extra settings. options like ; Open to Knocks to ALL. A list of People who are the Only people allowed to Knock u and then have the feature fully disabled for every stream

if you unselect all of them you get to add select people to a favorite list which allows them to do the knock I checked it out a good bit ago but it is a good idea

It's a cool idea, but I would be nervous with somebody, doesn't have to be well known, knocked on my stream and wanted to join. I have a lot of medical issues and sometimes fall asleep on stream. *Sigh*, I don't know if I have narcolepsy or what is going on, but I feel better with my little 1 or 2 viewers while streaming and everyone else watching after I upload so they don't have to deal with my issues. It would be even worse if somebody else trying to do the streamer grind had to put up with all the crap going on with me.

Obviously how the feature is implemented and whether you can opt out is very important, but also the comment about twitch streamers being mad 'cause they're scared of people and don't know how to grow is completely accurate at the same time tho lol. You should always assume twitch is going to implement something badly before they implement something well (if that ever happens lmao)

Two french streamers I watch called Slave n Nedim had a random streamer that brings artists to his shows that used that feature to join the live, everyone was confused asl n they didnt knew him at all, pretty annoying to get disturbed like that with no warning

To go back to the webcam thing - for people who do stream with a cam they are gonna be using obs or something so it will always be a black screen, right? So it seems like this embedded camera feature is only going to be available to people who don't already stream with cams? Do.. in case the rest of my essay doesn't get read (cos twitch angers me and so does it's spokespersons) afaik = as far as i know like i commented to someone on bluesky, i have rarely seen anyone do spontaneous collabs. majority of the time people plan collabs in advance. between this and the bits big emojis and w/e they added that couldn't be turned of, what are they even doing. this just feels like another step of tiktokifying twitch (which they're doing a lot this month) and heading into the 'tiktok battles' bullshit that i have NEVER understood and i swear if they make that a thing on twitch i'm just. done with the platform as a whole. i'm so tired of them constantly working towards features that don't support what the entire point of twitch is: long form content and chat interaction/engagement. we don't go to churn out slop on twitch like everyone does on every other platform, we go to chill and hang out and socialize. this also feels like a way for people to harass a streamer, which is notorious on twitch anyway and they take FOREVER to respond or take any action to give streamers tools to prevent harassment (they've only in the past year or so added good features for hate raiders that should have been added YEARS ago when they first started blowing up) vstream really ended too soon cos i would much rather grow on a vtuber based platform that had some moderation than this goofy ass billionaire site that keeps making their product worse. also love how they rolled out blurring out thumbnails for nsfw content AFTER they immediately took away the allowed creative nudity it's like did anyone on the dev team use a braincell at all to come up with any of this stuff? (go figure. cos all those big people are out of touch with how to grow starting out) i appreciate ur breakdown of what helps someone grow, kat. like fr i used to watch all these 'big successful' people give advice on how to grow a channel and i would try their methods but they just never worked for me. when i actually stopped worrying about trying to grow and just did things naturally or, y'know.. go interact with other streams and chats and get to know people who end up becoming interested in ur personality and then want to come support u, like u don't NEED to collab if ur a socially anxious person like hell there's a huge amount of people who do mic off streams bc they're socially anxious and they're successful enough to get what they want out of streaming achieved. like u said, one size doesn't fit all. and also advertising outside of twitch is so important. these ambassadors are so goofy to sit there and keep doubling down that twitch has any discoverability or reach at all with how saturated everything is and how bad everyone's algos and suggestions are now (even more so since the rise of NEW ai garbage cos even just reg, ethical ai/ml stuff is poisoned with how bad the unethical ai stuff is that it's broken algos even more) and i'm so tired of them acting like if u don't follow their formulas exactly u'll never gain any kind of audience ever. it's like... people can do whatever they want to grow and ur just giving people anxiety for not following a regimen.

I see the potential, but it should absolutely not be always on by default. It should be the opposite. Off by default, and turn it on manually when you want it active. Because the way I understand, you have to remember to "opt out" every single time you go live. Or go through 5 steps convoluted plans to work around it. Not ideal. Some people will like this feature, and some won't, and that's okay. But there needs to be an effective and EASY way for people to opt out.

Nothing is wrong with the feature, they just need to add the permanent opt out option and it will be fine. Now if they don't that would be the real problem. Feels like everyone HATING it hardcore are over reacting by a mile. It just needs the perma opt out and it will never affect you again. But again, that depends on if Twitch fixes that problem or just leaves it there to annoy people every time they need to set up to stream. There's nothing wrong either with not collabing. It just seems like people started getting extremely upset just for the annoyance of the option not being perma. Fixing the camera is definitely one of the main problems of the feature. The implementation of the feature was botched but the feature itself is fine to add since it fixes the entire annoyance for collab streamers or one off collabs. Alot of people were going for the throat in their tweets about the feature because they were annoyed, not because they actually had any good criticism of the feature. "Can you add in a perma opt out option"? Is good feedback. Crying about "another stupid feature no one asked for" is not and clearly a part of the Twitch community WAS asking for it because without it it also was annoying for a part of the community. Both extreme ends are being spiteful for the opposite side the same way. Twitch should disable the feature until they fix it tbh. Quick easy solution until it actually works as intended and doesn't cause problems for people to set up. People shouldn't have to manually turn it off every set up and they shouldn't have to collab with anyone if they don't want to.
