I have friends that are bloggers on there and get paid to do art with their Avatars just to get their work stolen non stop, please be safe my dudes. I think that's the problem, though. SL never used to be like what it is now, and I signed up 17 years ago with a 4 years break in between. But a lot of people I met since coming back, I all hear the same thing--IMVU. I never knew that thing existed when I signed up to SL, and anyone who was toxic there just brings it over to SL. One of my SL partners came from IMVU, and after knowing my lil' circle, kind of just distanced herself from her old IMVU friends because of that. I tend to just spread different vibes, and teach others photography or other things. I am a blogger but also value my time, so I'm not one of those people with like 30+ sponsors. I have like, 6, so I can get time to have fun and actually meet people as well as do more "fun" photos. So just want to make it clear that, in my 4 years, and knowing other bloggers. We don't necessarily get paid in money, it's more like an exchange--we're given products by content creators to essentially be influencers. But we're paying out of our own pockets for things like Flickr Pro, Photoshop (unless some people go to the high seas) most of the time. But yeah, I've had work stolen and re-uploaded with no credit--it sucks. I don't do green screen work, I spend hours building a scene, figuring out a pose (without references) and outfits, then editing...for some butthole to come along and do that.

@@4EvR_AR It's just as bad as being contacted out of the blue about the person being an artist and that they do commissions. This last one just contacted me a few days ago, and only had like one piece readily available for their, "Portfolio". They are just as bad as the AI. I think they keep files given to them and possiibly edit them to pass them off as their pieces of art to someone else.
@lespectator49623 ай бұрын
@@4EvR_AR A bit of both, depends on your luck. The biggest issue with it is it's an algorithm making the "art" and not a person, algorithms do not pick up on all the nuances humans do like style, composition, emotion, context, intent and so on. Algorithms only crunch numbers, but since it can remember things pixel by pixel and recall billions of images it will inevitably be able to copy those elements without understanding them because it's remembering them through the human artwork it trained on. This mimicry with a lack of understanding of a human is also why it makes it's signature mistakes. If you're wondering why it seems like AI just copies 1:1 in the case of this video, there are some more narrowed down versions of it that will only attempt to alter an image rather than completely generating from scratch, they are called image to image generators. These are the biggest offenders when it comes to theft.

I'm not surprised though. thank you for shedding light on this. as someone who used to be fairly active on SL, I can say that this is not the norm. I do know that there are places there that use ai and it makes me sick as an artist, but I can thankfully say that this is not the majority. there are a lot of toxic people on there but a lot of them are ostricized. there's a lot of polarizing extremes on there. you either get super wholesome and supportive or super toxic and abusive. this unfortunately seems to be what has gotten out there. having SL news pop up like this is insane. hoping Bunny benefits from this drama gets lots of new followers, commissioners, and positive traction from all this. they don't deserve the garbage being thrown at them. AI is unethical and this person who is /commissioning/ someone to steal and plagarize should be on everyone's blacklist and whoever they're commissioning should also be reported for theft and blacklisted.

This case, is blatant theft. I've had the same thing happen to me where people have re-uploaded my work and given no credit, made no alterations, or anything. Both RL works, and Second Life works. They're trying to use their own shitty behaviour as if it's something that is normal or accepted in the Second Life community, and for most of us--because of time, investment, connections, and profit (if you're a Second Life content creator). A lot of us don't simply see it as a game, but a virtual world or metaverse...sometimes it's just easier to call it a game, though. A vast majority of us SL photographers and artists are against the use of AI as a filter, and do consider it theft. But the problem is now, that some content creators are even using it on their product ads, and that just leads to a lot of issues like misrepresentation or false advertising. I think there's some leniency if some people use AI elements as background or composited objects--because compositing has been a thing since The Fleischer Brothers invented rotoscoping, and photographers did double exposure. But my main thing is, that there are a lot of good content creators out there making highly detailed skins, clothing, etc. You can get photorealistic scenes/images without even the need of heavy editing---if you take the time to learn your craft, and some people are quite frankly too lazy too. They want instant gratification and clout, with little effort.

But feeding digital or handmade art, not photos of real subjects, into the AI is clearly not meaningfully transformative.

No idea what second life is, I'm guessing it's kind of like Avakin life? If yes, I would be absolutely pissed if someone took my avakin edits/redraws and ran them through AI then claimed its theirs ;-;

also on the "ai is good for people who can't afford art" you can learn how to draw! if you have access to the internet to be able to argue about that and use ai, you can also use it to learn how to draw. there are plenty of tutorials and free resources that help teach the fundamentals. + there are so many artists at different price points, not all commissions are super expensive but if it is a professional artist with a large following of course it'll be more expensive. at the end of the day like you said art is a luxury and you should not need to steal others' hard work for a luxury you either cannot afford or are too lazy to work toward the skill to create it

Second life user. I can't photoshop myself so all of my sl photos are unedited. I dont run them through AI. I will admit when AI first came out I thought it was fun to play with, until you learn about the fact that it IS theft. So if someone wanted to take inspiration from bunny's art. You can set up an in world backdrop with a similar vibe. Pose the avatars and do a lot of it IN WORLD before you even get it in editing. Commissioning people to do AI is so weird to me.

Also as a second life Content creator, we do not like art theft, we all try to callout art thief's, this is not ok, it is never ok to steal other peoples art/content, if you want to use someone elses piece for reference please get permissions if possible from the original artist and make sure if you did get permissions to always link back/shout-out/showcase give credit to the original art piece, it is so so so important, especially in this day and age where ai is so prominent everywhere, it is so important to give credit where credit is due, even if you get a brick material from an art site somewhere, contact the creator of this brick material, and ask that creator if it is ok to feature their brick material in your content on the second life platform or where ever, someone put time and effort into making that material art for use, and if you can't even say thank you with at minimum a link of credit/shoutout then it really degrades peoples perspective of you as a artist in general.. Please, be respectful and mindful of other peoples content on the internet, there are so many wonderful and talented artists who get their things taken for granted and we really need to come together as a community and do what we can, every time you use a reference for something, within logical reasons, out of respect, always try to link back to your original sources when you share/sell.. This person being convicted of art theft is clearly doing something that is not ok, and is clearly misinformed within the second life platform, you literally need to agree in the TOS of second life to basically not sell stuff that is not your own, and SO many people ignore this rule, this needs to be enforced more, Second life thrives on the artists within it and without them it would be literal trash. This person needs to be educated and shown how to correctly respect artists within the platform and similar situations.

My fellow artists I don’t know if this is going to be fun to hear but I must say it now. The art that you have posted on your social media network that haven’t been Glaze or Nightshade over is gone now. I hate having to say this because my gosh it wrecked me to fully realize it thanks to most sites using AI now, but they are already in that AI system. I still think it’s important to call out these people who still AI your old work no matter what, so we are all aware of these thieves. However, it’s time to start Glaze and/or Nightshade your current work in order to keep your art protected. The artists behind it had given an update saying something tried to take down the system but luckily caught it and have given another update to the Glaze feature. Currently it is now 2.1 so be sure to get the newer version! Idk if they are doing funds yet, but I’m definitely so grateful to at least have a system made by artists for artists to try to stop stuff like this from happening more.

You can't steal what is public domain! Original artist will always have authorship rights over the piece, that is, intellectual property...that's about it.

as someone whom lvs to draw (i am a terrible artist and canny draw.. but im trying) i will admit i use some ai on the odd occasion for personal use (mostly my OC's or backgrounds for my laptop or phone) i have never claimed it as my own art as i am aware that the ai bots (the one that i use anyway) uses inspo from others arts... but its never outright copied someones art.. i feel like ppl whom use ai bots or filters should outright state they dont own the art... its just not respectful to claim the art as your own.. hell if u refuse to listen to reason and post it online on your media.. i feel you should just tag the art owner after asking if u could.. its kind of sad.. for example.. i feel inspired to draw when i look at actual art drawn by actual artists.. and i enjoy commenting on artists posts that r just starting up or not.. cause their work is gorgeous.. and then when i commission artists and post that on my media.. i always tag the artists...

What is Second Life?
@AvelierPlays4 ай бұрын
A virtual platform with social and creation tools. It has its own internal economy (called Linden dollars), creative people, stores, events, games and more. You can create and design your own avatar to your style and choice, whether its fantasy, scifi, etc. People there create machinima, musicians play live music, artists create art venues, etc. It's pretty much up to the users to decide what to do, create and share. It's been around for 21 years.

So second life is like a beta vrchat where you inport models via unity or a plugin to port .uasset models into second life to act as a avatar. In no way is second life a hub or program to post ai art. As a ai user. I train models based on my art and only based on art im given expressed permission to do so. So help with video game texture projects. Even with ai ive slowed down to help allow people use both my sketch and digital shading as free options. While, i think ai is heavilly used incorrectly by the vast majority . I do think ai art has a time and place. An art theft isnt one of those times

Alright so...I am an old artist. I have been around a long time and have seen a lot of art stolen. I even on rare occasions use AI to get my work done faster. So I am also not bias. In the Art world the rule has always been that if the piece isn't 75 percent changed... It's stolen. So. Going by that rule of thumb, Yes. These images are stolen. They convey the same feeling, look poses , meaning and even small details. The only thing changed is colors and the style. You can take inspiration off others art and photos but you should always ask and always share it with the original creator. I for one have had several of my models bought from turbosquid and cgtrader and sold on SL with no changes at all. That alone is stressful as I specifically state to make textural changes before uploading anywhere commercially.

In the first example, you don't need to count the peonies, point out hair placement and color, dress color etc to prove the theft (though that's all definite evidence) -- all you need to say the background is the same as Bunny's work. The background being the same for both makes it absolutely and immediately clear that they took Bunny's drawing and put it into the generator with the command "make it more realistic", and that's it. The laziest art theft ever (aside from taking someone else's work, cropping out the artist's signature and putting yours on instead). Eemiyn's argument that "everybody else does it so it's ok, get off my back" is infuriating too. Everybody else wasn't caught red-handed. If all your friends get away with shoplifting but you're caught trying it, do you think the police will let you go just because your friends have never been caught? 'Everyone you know is a thief? Alright then, I guess stealing is fine. Have a nice day.' THEN to act like the victim in all this, 'The owner of the artwork wasn't nice to me about stealing her art. So screw the meanie, I'm keeping my stolen art online because she should have treated me better.' That's some "entitled brat" attitude right there. Eemiyn is completely in the wrong by any standard and whines about it. Lastly, it turns out she isn't even doing the AI herself and namedrops who's doing it for her, for no reason. I can't tell if it's a sly plug for Brendameges, or Eemiyn trying to divert attention/blame by throwing Brendamenges in front of the bus. Either way, wow. 'Friends' like Eemiyn will ruin your life.
