@@christopherstein2024 How is it a food group when it's just cow breast milk. It's just one secretion of an animal and it's just added because culture and the industry that produces it. Kidney beans aren't a food group either. Legumes are. Imagine an actual food group for breast milk, like "bodily juices".

@@christopherstein2024 Well, for one thing, a “diary” is a book, a journal, that you write your daily activities, thoughts, and/or dreams in. I don’t know why you would want to eat that. Sorry about that. I just had to. 😉💜😉 But, on a more serious note, animal milks are more poison than food to adult humans. Even human babies are by far better off with human breast milk than milk from other animals. 🤷🏻‍♀️💜🌱☮️🌱💜🤷🏻‍♂️

Did you notice that all others are more like food groups (vegetables, grains), but then it says "protein foods"? Why doesn't it say carbohydrate foods? It is interesting how the obsession with protein is visible even here. Btw that's why I like Dr. Greger's Daily Dozen, it focuses on the foods to eat not the nutrients. It is a lot more practical and easier to memorize in my opinion.

@Black Sperm "And now check any plant ( which is indigestible) and not to mention precursers are shit. What would be healthier and sustain YOUR life? {When eating eggs) You are eating litterally raw amino acids, fatty acids, vitimins, minerals" The same is true for eating plants. I don't know the RDAs for eggs off the top of my head, but spinach is more nutrient dense than beef liver and kale is more nutrient dense than sirloin steak. Plant foods also have fiber and hundreds of phytonutrients animal foods lack, and have, on average, 64 times as much antioxidant punch as animal foods. Plant foods also DON'T have the various compounds animal foods have that ramp up rates of disease when compared to eating whole plant foods. "Its obvious you are not made out of indigestible, cooked plants" Actually, given that I've been eating a vegan diet for eight years and lots of of my cells have been replaced in the last eight years, the current me largely WAS made out of plants. Take care.

@@dhunter8286 Unfortunately, the dietary guidelines and related spin offs are created by a committee, that doesn't rely on satisfied customers. The govt doesn't care what the consumer thinks. The body actually tries to regulate the amount of iron it absorbs. The reason why meat eaters have more over all iron is that the body can't regulate heme-iron. Heme-iron is automatically absorbed whether the body likes it or not. That is why it appears that plant based iron is less efficiently absorbed but the truth is the body absorbs what it needs form plants.

Whole food plant based for 3 years, BMI 19.8 ish. Meat is factually not good for the environment or our health, we all know that here. But, most of American calories are from processed grains (read "enriched wheat flour" on nutrition labels), oils, and sugars. For improving obesity and general health, replacing white flour, NOT promoting oil as HEALTHY (good job Mike), and eliminating all processed sugars including honey, is just as important as reducing animal products. I know animals are cute but grains and fruits are our friends too.

The 2020-2025 guidelines are an improvement and I don’t want good to be the enemy of great. But you can easily argue that the meat industry ploy of creating contradictions and confusion allows them to maintain their position. However, I do think that for the meat industry insiders, these guidelines are a shot across the bow. I hope this has them adjusting their future plans and products.

I like the "vegan diet is OK if you eat enough nutrients". Yes, because other diets are OK even if you don't eat enough nutrients? Like people are fine even if they only eat chicken nuggets, because they are not vegan? And it is harder to get the vegan diet right. On the contrary, it is so easy to get meat eating right, though. One slight problem with that thinking - why are there so many people with various deficiencies and food related health problems? Also, the dietary recommendations graph is missing stuff like lead, mercury and others, because people are getting those things under the recommended dose as well, not just dairy.

Milk is no longer a 'food group' on Canada's Food Guide, it had been a food group since the inception of the guide and was still a group in the last publication (2007). Now it is lumped in with the "proteins" food group. food-guide.canada.ca/en/ Canada has a link to every food guide they ever published. Perhaps other Governments have such a site...? www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/canada-food-guide/about/history-food-guide.html#a1942 As a Type 1 diabetic I've watched the guide evolve since I was diagnosed in1981. Dietitians were always waving that publication in my face! MIKE, perfecto. I prefer Kroger STO products versus Silk and others, because Kroger supplements with D2 and B12, for most products, and adds E and A in others. I use their soy and oat together to do protein complementarity, as well as adjust the sweetness and texture. Their almond has added E. I use them about half the month, and half ass it the rest of the time. My only deficiency ever has been D3, which wasnt because I wasn't getting enough D1 and D2, but because I tend to be a night owl, and sit inside too much during the day. Exposing my torso to the sun a few minutes daily, when I walk my dogs, has fixed that. Thank you for giving me so much ammo against rabid Omnis.

I have a lot of issues with this video but for now I would just like to ask what your source is on the carcinogens in the meat? To my knowledge, the carcinogens in the meat we consume are so low that they "[definitely don't correlate strongly with cancer in humans]", which I got from a video on the topic that looked at a study that tested how bad carcinogens in meat actually were. The way you keep talking about it makes it seem like a major problem, but I don't have a source that confidently says that I have to worry about eating meat due to cancer risk. On the contrary, (again, to my knowledge) I'd be much better off in terms of overall health and cancer to go on a carnivore diet / keto diet that lowers my insulin to prevent inflammation and the likes. The notion I get form the video that a vegan diet would be healthier is something that doesn't align with what I have learned, so I find your claims questionable

Because protein needs are based on the person. A 260 lb man has different protein requirements than a 150 lb woman. Thanks for covering the new guidelines; I didn’t realize that they were finalized. The wording on cholesterol and soy dairy alternatives was included in the 2015 - 2020 U.S. Dietary Guidelines (see below), so I don’t see how this update is any improvement. Unfortunately, our country is stuck in the nutritional 1980s. “The Key Recommendation from the 2010 Dietary Guidelines to limit consumption of dietary cholesterol to 300 mg per day is not included in the 2015 edition, but this change does not suggest that dietary cholesterol is no longer important to consider when building healthy eating patterns. As recommended by the IOM,[24] individuals should eat as little dietary cholesterol as possible while consuming a healthy eating pattern.” (hidden on p32) “Most individuals in the United States would benefit by increasing dairy intake in fat-free or low-fat forms, whether from milk (including lactose- free milk), yogurt, and cheese or from fortified soy beverages (soymilk).” (p49)
