New Van Build Idea.... Will it Work?

In this video I talk about my new van build idea. A utility van with a KUV bed. These are cutaway vans with an aftermarket utility bed typically used for contractors and construction. With a KUV van I can use the storage boxes for my tools I use when working on my rentals and the van build. I can also keep water storage tanks, my batteries, a Chinese diesel heater, and my shower in the exterior boxes to save room on the inside. If I get a KUV van I will install a roof fan and insulation to the roof along with side windows that slide open and have screens. Of course all of this is dependent on if I find what I am looking for, but I have seen a few in my price range. I will continue to look for a van to build into a new camper van for adventuring and camping. Thanks for all the support! I appreciate every one of you!

Please drive one before you buy it. We had these for work trucks doing electrical. They are heavy big pigs, bad on gas. They Rattle and shake so load. All the compartment door hinges rust out . You would probably do a nice job with it but drive one around first. Best wishes 👍

Good luck with your search. Those vans are harder to find..only seen a very few and with that utility bed most are fairly expensive. If you do find one I'd like to see your build..I've always thought it would be cool. Take care.

I'm with you on the length. Don't need high top & for me don't need inside plumbing or sink. I think its a waste of space. I keep it basic, use a plastic dishpan IF I do dishes traditionally. Mostly use it to hold my spray bottles. Mostly I use 2 spray bottles & paper towels. One with vinegar & water to rinse & one with Dawn dish sosp & water to wash & one plain water. All are environment friendly. Also, 2 empty laundry detergent bottles to dump in public bathroom, 1 for grey water & 1 for black water. Actually my husband waters the weeds in the middle of the night which helps keep away animals. Not me, I save it for the Public restrooms. We go camping to be out doors where we stand. The van is for sleeping or getting out of the rain.

there are 4x4 trucks with KUV beds but they are typically 8 foot beds instead of 10 foot beds like the vans. But they are out there and I am open to a truck.

I looked at KUV's too. There just wasn't enough room inside for me. Yeah, there was a ton of storage outside. But Getting stuck in it on a rainy day was gonna be bad. Getting enough room inside required cutting out some of the toolboxes and whatnot. By that time, a Van Ambulance was a better way to go for me, dollar for dollar. I even thought (KUV) of taking the storage compartments and splitting them in the middle with walls, so I could have inside and outside storage/shelves/etc. It all ended up being too much work, when I could just buy a vambulance and be done. Good luck though, if anyone can convert a KUV, you can.

Thanks. I know it will have it's challenges, but I think it will be fun. I stay outside a lot when camping so the smaller space for sleeping doesn't bother me too much.

You would be much better off with a retired verizon 3500 fiber optic splicer box truck for many reasons. 1. The box is all aluminum - no rusting ....KUV is a rust bucket after a few years .... poor quality steel 2. They have built in gasoline 7000 commercial generators installed with roof air units, electric heater units , breaker box , 110 outlets etc.......already professionally installed. 3.more head room than a KUV 4. Most all are low mileage well under 100,000 miles. 4. Fleet maintained meticulously 👍 🚙 ☁☁☁ ☁ ☁ ☁
