New Van Tour Before Build

Here it is! A look at my new project van. It is a 1989 Ford E250 Clubwagon. The body is pretty much mint other than a fender, but I will take it compared to other vans I have seen. Now to figure out the best layout for the van build. Can you help me?

I have a ford E150 i use for camping. You don't need the roof vent. You're just camping in it and not living in it full time. The fan at/near the windows work just fine. I have the rain guards on the driver and passenger side so I can crack them a little. I also went to a military store and bought some mosquito netting. Cut and sewed it together so I can place them over the door/window and roll the windows all the way down if it isn't raining. I also have larger pieces for the side and rear doors. Works great.

Keep open floor concept behind bucket seats. Very nice lounge area. Maybe fridge between seats to act as coffee table?

She’s a clean machine for the years she’s seen.👍 I’ve seen those 12v box fans like10 inch a couple of them would be sweet. I think Walmart has em. I see a rather large swing out tv folding out towards those nice captains chairs. Slide out drawers from back door always a +.

Nice. The Chateau model. I have an 82 e150 captain's club, with the bench seat that folds into a bed in the third row and 4 captain's chair, two up front, amd two in the middle row. Whereas you have the large window on the sliding door, I have 4 pop-outs on the middle windows. Oh, and it's an inline 6.

Since bucket seats swivel so nicely, put rear bed higher up for nice gear storage underneath. No need to sit on bed (excessive head room)

Twin bed seems too small for two... check out adventurevanman. Rather than full length counter, do half full shelf rack. Consider Murphy bed. Do you fit sleeping perpendicular like in your first van? I believe that is most efficient.

Joe Justjoe my last van was dark and it got really hot inside if I was even partially in the sun. That's why I was leaning towards a lighter color. I have seen AVMs new set up and I like it. With all the windows in this van, I don't want to block the view so I'm going to try to keep my cabinets below the window line. I want to be able to wake up to awesome views if I camp somewhere scenic. A slide out kitchen area sounds like a good idea.

Cute van! It does look like it missed a couple of decades of regular use. I like your initial layout plan except I might only do about a 30" wide bed instead of a twin, which is generally 39" x 75", I believe. I like plenty of aisle room, and I like the aisle open all the way through the van.

Thanks for those measurements! My wife camps with me sometimes so I may have to make a twin that converts to a larger bed, but I like the idea of open an open aisle.

wowwwww. That really is nice. Your layout sounds about right. One of them couches that spread into a bed would be good. I wouldnt put the head in the van though. I'd build it in the space created by the back doors. Will a water tank fit under it anywhere?? You are right. That headliner is clean. It would be a shame to cut it. Maybe a fantastic fan in the back window?? Hinged on the top so you can flip it up and open/close the window. I follow a guy named Luke Fugate - he's built out a van just like yours. It's a great platform. Have fun!!

Other than the door and a few upgrades, you have my exact same van. Your lay out idea is pretty much the same as my plan as well. a note on the side heating AC, when it is removed you will have 3 holes in the floor. I used fiber glass and tape to seal two of mine, the third I left open for now as a possible drain for the sink. Also when you remove it, could you tell me what parts you had to put in? The garage that worked on mine plugged the hoses with bolts and hose clamps and now I need to fix there mess, when the snow goes away.

@@RubberTrampRenegade I didn't remove the rear air/heat on my chevy express, just built a nice air intake box with a grill and filter and it's tucked nicely under my twin bed

Are there any areas in West TN. you have been to or camped that you recommend? I am headed that way in May for the West TN. Strawberry Festival in Humboldt. Sweet van. Mine is a 1997 Ford Aerostar XLT. Excellent condition.

Had no idea you are here in Tn!! .. i'm in Johnson City Tn, and just saw a sweet turtle top van for sale in Jonesboro. Was going to stop & check it out but it had been a rough day & was in hurry to get home. . . Bought my own van Nov 1st from a local car dealer. An acquaintance helped remove the back seats. Had to take it to a auto shop to get the bolts removed from the floor. But now i have 25 boltholes to plug somehow and no one to help guide me to the right solution. One youtube guy said he used quarters & flexseal .. another guy said he just put the same bolts back in the holes (after removing the brackets the chairs had been attached to) which isnt an option just yet for me as the shop that removed the brackets kept all my bolts 😠 Does the floor of your van have any holes that have been plugged & what did they use to do it with? ... am so frustrated i'm about ready to cover the holes with reflectix tape and be done with it. Congrats on your new van, cant wait to watch you cherry it out.

Went looking for a fender today but no luck. Cleaned out the van, took the roof rack off for now to get ready for paint then I’ll re install with a little modification. Taped lines in the floor where I want everything and I think it’s going to work out great. Was going to make a video but it’s raining cats and dogs.
