But the fact is, that accident could happen to anyone regardless of how intelligent or unintelligent they are. Sometimes fireworks can explode sideways instead of upward, in which case the fault is with the manufacturer. And in this incident, the fireworks did initially explode sideways and then ignite the other stock of fireworks nearby. Those "battery" style fireworks are especially dangerous because they cause so many to go off, one right after the other. And there's no way to control it once it's been ignited.

@Aron-808 I think gambling would increase the homeless population and only positively impact whoever owned the casino, legalizing normal fireworks would be a good idea and cracking down more on the illegal ones. They should bring back the state funded firework shows like they used to have there when I was a kid at the parks near Baldwin Highschool; also they should have more shows island wide so people feel less inclined to purchase their own and trained professionals would be in charge of it, which even then things can still go wrong. Marijuana should be legal for sale/trade/growing whatever but it seems a lot of states want to get their hands into the tax profits they generate.
@Komainu9592 күн бұрын
@@lispan3768 The main reason is the cultural makeup of Hawaii that led to fireworks on New Years being a HUGE cultural aspect that is firmly ingrained after generations. A bunch of people who let's face it, are generally pretty wealthy move to Hawaii and use their influence to change the laws because they don't like the amount of smoke the fireworks cause and don't give a crap about the local culture. Now on Oahu which is the strictest island so far as fireworks goes has the worst illegal fireworks by a large amount. If it were not for the strong connection it would die off like so many other things. But even with all the trauma caused right now and greater enforcement it's not going away. Thousands die each year to alcohol abuse and alcohol related accidents- yet drinking is as popular as ever.

We live in Northern California where we are hit horribly by wildfires, especially my county and fireworks are illegal. But there are idiots down the street that always light them off. I have never found anything to help, but last night I had an idea. Around 11:45 last night I started playing loudly the opening D-Day invasion scene from Saving Private Ryan because all it is is gunfire and explosions, and I replayed that scene for over an hour. He fell asleep and when the fireworks started at midnight and lasted till a little after 12:30 he was laying next to me crashed out the entire time. I was so relieved for him. I had already been worried for a month about how last night was going to go.

A few years ago, our friends had bought one of those battery-style fireworks for the first time, which cause a lot of them to go off, one right after the other, even though you only ignite the "battery" once. Due to a manufacturing defect, some of them shot out sideways instead of upward. If someone had been standing in the wrong place at the wrong time, they would have been hit. So we were all standing there, watching this thing malfunction and yet there was no way to stop it because the battery is designed to just shoot out fireworks one right after the other. So it just kept going off and shooting those things out sideways. It was very scary. Needless, to say, we (and our friends) will NEVER buy battery-style fireworks because of that incident. And in truth, we only buy "volcanoes" now because they are small and confined and don't make much noise. I guess it's all too easy to forget sometimes how dangerous fireworks really are. :(

I'm a Hawaii resident and it's incredibly common every day of the year. There are areas where it will be a random Thursday night and you'll hear the boom or squeal of an aerial firework popping off. It's illegal to have these types of fireworks, but there are various aspects that make controlling it difficult. For example, the systemic beliefs that fireworks are a cultural practice that must be protected and any legislation that places stricter penalties for those convicted of having them is an infringement on those rights makes it difficult to control. Our governor had to plead with the public to stop the illegal fireworks usage during the investigation time to prevent any more injuries. It's out of control and it was, unfortunately, only a matter of time until something like this happened.
@furthermoreasmr93032 күн бұрын
@@miso_sleepy That is insane. Good grief, I pray for y'all's safety. Even if there isn't a ground level tragedy like what happened, just all the sparks flying around over the buildings is a risk. Greater crackdowns will help but it will not end it. If they want to limit the use of illegals better enforcement and legalizing regular consumer fireworks needs to be brought back. Just like prohibition didn't end consumption of alcohol. It only drove it underground like the buying of illegal fireworks. Tens of thousands die each year due to DUI and countless more due to fights, accidents, addiction and yet alcohol use continues to go up.

NOW THREE HAD DIED! VERY BAD! I think I know what happened. I have seen lots of fireworks displays on KZbin videos, and I know about the Enschede fireworks factory disaster of 2000. Fireworks mishaps are not funny--they can burn badly, disable, blow off parts of bodies, blind, and can KILL! Similar to electrical arc flashes which can create the same disastrous consequences. Two theories on what went wrong with the fireworks here..........just guesses 1. A major computer glitch in the electronic firing modules may have prematurely set off the finale cake stash of fireworks, blowing both the racks of finale fireworks AND the rest of the non-finale fireworks all at once. That is, if electronic firing on a module computer for the fireworks were used. 2. Or probably one of the mortar tubes was improperly placed, causing the shell to fire more to the side instead of up, blowing up all of the fireworks at once. Lessons............ 1. Be sure the computers choreographing the fireworks have redundant backups enough to avoid disastrous cascading in its firing signal instructions to the shells. 2. And finally....be sure the mortar tubes are placed vertically, and not only that--they should be on material that is LEVEL AND EVEN so they do not fall, and placed on wooden or other material racks in groups to avoid the fall down of mortar tubes, which can lead to deadly disasters like this.
@mikem6832 күн бұрын
