For those considering buying I have the 2.0TDi Passat Estate B8 (latest version) and I get 38 mpg around town, 40-43 mpg mixed driving and on a 70 mile trip on motorway I got 51.4 (5.5l\100km) and this is improving all the time as the engine is running in nicely now (976 miles). Very good review as always! 2 comments: The only thing that really bothers me in all VW cars are those empty buttons around the Transmission (from minute 11:11 to 11:16). It gives the feeling that a lot of things are missing in the car but in the end nothing is missing, since even the complete trim levels of the GTI, Passat, etc nothing happens there!! And I don't understand why VW USA is not capable to build this Passat in Tennessee. The 2016 model in the US seems 4 years behind!

Love the design of this Passat, specially the interior how the lines flow horizontally across the dash. I saw your video then went to the VW US web site but the 2016 Passat, the interior looks almost like my 2009 Passat. Not sure what the reasoning is for having the US version so behind, they'd sell way more cars if it wasn't.
@_chan.burn.21_8 жыл бұрын
The reason is because VW is refusing to ditch the platform they're using on the current North American Passat, called the "New Midsize Sedan" platform (kinda ironic if you ask me), which is a platform they specifically designed for U.S./Canadian consumers, although I've always personally preferred the European Passats, and it's funny because I know a lot of people who do too. Also, the North American Passat is actually built in Tallahassee, Tennessee, and it would take a ton of money & time to convert the assembly lines to manufacture an MQB-based Passat like the Euro-spec one in this video. Hopefully one day they'll ditch the platform & switch to using a global strategy for their cars' platforms like nearly every manufacturer has done in the past few years, and they also need to start building their cars in Wolfsburg again, because naturally the cars from their domestic country are of better quality than ones manufactured in the U.S. and Mexico.

@TheRTPatriot9 жыл бұрын
The Passat in EU is more attractive on the interior especially the virtual cockpit- it adds life to the car. Otherwise, VW always goes conservative with the Passat design maybe because they target a specific segment of the market - executive cars and people above 50. In North America things are completely different: it's plain boring let's put it that way. I do like the fact that it's a turbocharged line-up all the way from the entry trim. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to all Autogefuhl team! Keep bringing these excellent reviews for 2016...See you then

Considering to get sedan, audi a4 2016 or passat 2015 , difference on price tag: i can get passat with highest trim level, on a4 i can only get some which one should i choose?
@autogefuehl9 жыл бұрын
+Adrian Shepherd which country/market? And what specifics are the most important for you?
@kingtiger319 жыл бұрын
Turkey/ market heavily depends on tax rate, from 1.0 to 1.6 motors tax rate is %45 above 1.6 motor tax rate %90, i can get passat 1.6 tdi or 1.4 tsi or a4 1.4 tfsi, not traveling much and going to use it in city only, doing 15 - 20k km a year. so gasoline is good choice, this is only chance i can get a new car not going to buy another any soon. with highest trim level on passat equal to empty a4, if i can manage to buy a4 with some sale it will have mid trim level. strictly on budget. thanks for adive have a nice day.
@autogefuehl9 жыл бұрын
+Adrian Shepherd we re talking about the new a4 or the old a4? Old A4 vs Passat I would always take the Passat. In general, you get more car for the money with the passat of course. If it is the new A4, you should take it if you really want a high class interior, but then again, you should probably have a mid-trim level. So overall, i would go with the passat

Just a short comment to that review: 1. The Passat is the new S class. It's so spacious and luxurious. And has the same weight as an S class from 1987. 2. I am just fine with the seat adjustment both manual and electric. That way the car is lighter. The seats look wonderful. I especially like the many different ways you can adjust them. 3. The rear view camera is very nice, too. But with these many different kinds of how to use it I am not sure if life really gets easier by it. I would call it technical overkill. 3. In my opinion the central display and the climate control should be in a higher position. 4. In general I want to say that a car of this size and fuel consumption only makes sense from the environment aspect if regularly 4 adult people sit in the car. If regularly driven just by one or two persons a car like the Polo is just fine. 5. Aggressive versus safe and polite driving style: When the traffic lights turn yellow I am supposed to stop. Period. 6. 150 hp should be the legal maximum a car is allowed to have. Like Thomas honestly said: If you have that extra amount of power (that you actually don't need at all for safe driving) you will also (ab)use it. 7. Many more aspects of this car could be addressed but this time I wanted to write just a short comment. The Autogefühl reviews and my comments seem to have something in common. Both are "full length" ;-) Thanks Thomas for the excellent review!

+Autogefühl , It looks like the Passat is marketed as an entry level executive class car in Europe. In North America, the Passat is marketed with the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry, which is more like a family saloon. Our consumers wanted a car with more rear seat room, which made your vehicle less popular here. They decided to build an assembly plant here in Tennessee. Our Passat is a slightly longer vehicle, but not quite as refined as yours. Since you are on speaking terms with the CEO, could you please ask him why the CC doesn't come with a sliding panoramic sunroof?
