Single turbo kits running 7 lbs making almost 500hp on e85. only weak spots the NA pistons if you’re going boost. but they still hold to 500+hp on ethanol. stock block capable of 800hp, stock crank capable of 1000hp. dual fuel system, variable valve timing, everything a tuner needs. might as well call it the new NA 2JZ lol

That was awesome! I could have watched that all day. It was nice to see what all these numbers look like in the real world between these trucks. It's really all about the seat of the pants feel and drivability than anything else. Because 1, 2, or 3 truck lengths in a all out race really amounts to nothing at the end of the day. It's just bragging rights and I much prefer reliability and longevity over that. If anyone really wants to improve their drivability in a 3rd gen Tacoma, 4 or 6 cylinder, just get a Pedal Commander. I installed one in my 22' 4 cylinder Tacoma and it made a world of difference in the enjoyment of driving the truck. It's like night and day. I have no affiliation with Pedal Commander. Just trying to be helpful. A word about the brake test. I'm sure the 10' difference between the 3rd and 4th gens was due mostly to the tires. So that was a nice point to settle. Drum brakes on the back of a pickup really don't make the stopping distance any longer when the bed is empty. I'm sure the ABS had to dial back the braking power to the discs to keep the rear wheels from locking up due to the light weight of the bed. Where the discs will shine is in their fade resistance and stopping power down long grades and especially when loaded or pulling a trailer. And another big plus is they are just a lot easier to change when they are due for replacement. It's definitely a move in the right direction. Thanks for another great test as usual. 👍

I've owned 2 Toyota pickups (1 bought new) with the legendary 22R, and four Tacoma's starting with a 2004. Every Tacoma I have owned the quality has dropped a tad and you can feel it. My 2004 was by far my favorite and as long as you kept the rust at bay (especially frame) it was so solid. With my current truck, Toyota messed something up with the roof sound deadening and it sounds like a cat on a tin roof in the rain. Which vehicle has the least amount of plastic parts? Did the bed get all scratched up? I am especially curious how well the aluminum clad tail gate holds up to abuse. How easy was it to load and unload the stuff? Which has the shortest turn radius? Which is more comfortable to drive when loaded? Which stops the fastest when loaded? How much can be carried? Love the new Frontier
@deweysturgill62209 ай бұрын
I figured something out yesterday about the new gen frontier tires after nearly being in an accident. The oem fitment are the equivalent of Walmart Michelin. Built to a lower spec. Same for the hankooks on my pro4x. They are absolutely deadly on a wet road. I picked the truck up from dealer I thought oh good it's got at pros on it. I had read a lot of positive reviews when tire shopping for my old frontier. Absolutely the worst tire I've ever seen on a truck for wet conditions. I've seen others mention this for the Michelin as well. The guys here local use GM trucks for work that is all they will fit on them because traction and wear is so good.

We've had Toyota trucks in our family since 1989. The conversation is about reliability not necessarily speed and only time will tell if the turbo motor or components will stand the test of time.
@westcoastplinkin65599 ай бұрын
All you have to do is compare the new generation Tundras to the old generation. The new ones are having so many issues. The same will result to the new Tacoma. I have a 30+ year old Toyota Pickup with the 22RE. It is even slower and more underpowered than the Tacoma. But 30+ years later, it is still on the road with 306,000 miles. That is why I buy Toyota.

This is a mistake. That car is ancient and outdated. Reliable sure but it’s slow and clunky. The driving ergos and interior are also awful. I sold mine for a Colorado and it’s so much nicer.

Being an owner of a Tacoma and a 4Runner, I have to ask myself, why am I watching videos based around their speed? Kinda feel like I need to go watch a corvettes ability to rock climb next :)
@getnbigger299 ай бұрын
I ask this every time you do a brake test. Why don’t you use the solo to test the braking distances? Zero human error for response times or measuring errors.

Fear the turbos and hybrids will end Toyota’s long term reliability reputation.

The 5.6 titan engine bolts into the frontier. That would be an interesting race
@Jay-me7gw9 ай бұрын
@@matthewdrew6268 The frontier and the titan shared the same frame architecture. That's also why you can swap the entire titan front suspension into the Frontier and get a cheap factory mid-travel setup.

I think its possible but not without a lot of work. The Lexus GX460 has the 4.6L in it, which is a destroked 5.7L. Since the GX460 and tacoma are closely related up front, the engine should fit. The 5.7L is a big engine though and is taller than the 4.6L

Take one of tacomas best model 2005-2007 in a stress test to 100mph and it’ll smoke the 4 cylinder. I think the new ones are quicker on the take off from 0-60 by a little but the more robust classic V6 is gonna pump a lot more power in a long shot
@emmanuelmedina27409 ай бұрын
The 4.0 makes less peak power, tho. What are you even talking about?
@austinradtke28968 ай бұрын
The 4.0 2nd gen doesn't make much less power but also weighs about 300-400lbs lighter. It would probably be a close race. Plus it's geared better than the 3rd gen auto.
