The positive factor on preowned is, if you scratch them “who cares” but at a fresh new watch the first scratch hurts!

I think Omega is another brand that you would do well to buy pre-owned. The only reason, I believe, you should buy it new is when you buy one of the many limited edition versions of the Speedmaster.

I think it depends. I typically look at an internet price from delray watch, C&C or watchbox. When I go to the AD, I just ask a price close and usually I only pay 200 or so more. When I bought a Tudor I chrono Blue, I got it for less than the internet prices.For the Omega Seamaster I asked 4200 when Crown and Caliber had the one I wanted for 4K. I think if the dealer knows your a watch fan they will give you 15 to 30 off. Do most people just buy online now a days or are you fine paying a small premium or sometimes less at the dealer when you build a relationship with them.

„New leather smell & buying experience” - GUILTY :) Buying a new watch is always once-every-few-years thing that I am waiting for & saving money. Plus, the new purchase usually matches some achievement or a milestone of my life, so the boitique experience is always great and for me worth every penny I spend. On top of that I like to have a feeling that a piece which I am obtaining is only mine & never been someone else’s before. I know it could be weird for some, but that’s how I feel. So, even though I am 100% conscious of depreciation right after boutique doors are closed behind my back, I strongly prefer new. Greetings from Poland!

Interesting about Tudor. Here in the UK BlackBay 58s and GMTs were waitlist pieces all year so far, but now they are (apparently) about to become more readily available from early November onwards - so one is told by ADs. In general, I'd say you look to buy new at retail if a watch checks two of the following three boxes: "steel-sports", "Rolex", and "Patek". Otherwise you'll almost invariably save money by buying pre-owned. But pre-owned does mean you'll be getting a watch that someone else has been to the bathroom while wearing, jerked off while wearing, picked their nose while wearing...etc... Just saying :-D

Loving the channel John! Personally I seem to have outgrown the "new" and modern designs of these luxury watches. This year I've taken an interest into the vintage watches and have recently acquired a Rolex 16040m Submariner. The vintage Omega is definitely mouthwatering and would gladly consider it! Its almost IMPOSSIBLE to get these vintage Rolex pieces, would love to know your take on vintage Rolex versus the Omega vintage. Lastly, would you prefer a watch with a date window or without? Cheers and have a great day ahead!

Richard Mille should just chill with whatever costumers do, same for Patek. Its just wrong to think to be unreplaceable and once you annoyed your prime costumers enough you are easier to be replaced. Maybe Patek has a standing where they can decide who is in and who is not, but Mille will vanish quicker from this market than their carbon watch cases will degrade when actually used.

@CrimFerret5 жыл бұрын
Rolex or Patek if you can get the one you want new, probably worth getting new. Forget the champagne treatment at Rolex AD's though. All indications are that most of them know they don't have to do that and what's the point when they likely don't have the watch you want to buy anyway? I'll be getting my Sinn new from the US distributer because that's the place you can get one new and there just aren't used examples of the one I want available. Otherwise, I'd buy pre-owned. You know buying new is a sucker deal when the AD's have to discount their own MSRP. If they are offering 30% off, you know you can get mint pre-owned for 50% off. Finally, unless you are prepared for the value of your Richard Mille to drop by 50% or more when that bubble bursts (and it will) I wouldn't touch one of their watches at this point.

@@JohnPWatches I agree with you, I'd want to hold the goods but I've never heard anyone say they were disappointed by the feel of an ALS. The looks are a little underwhelming at first but I think it will grow on people as time goes by. It's not a copy of anything, it's clearly an ALS, and I kind of like the bracelet. Not Gente-esque, not conventional, one of a kind. A lot people were ready to whack them for copying this, or following that design theme but it doesn't , it's it's own thing. Of course my opinion is worth nothing but if I win the lottery this week, I think I'll buy one. ;-)

Randy Allen I guess it’s about the Odysseus right ? I think Lange did a awesome job. They made it. They created something which can compete with the royal and the nautilus. But it is a real Lange from the style. Nothing copied I really agree. Also the movement typical Glashütte. I think we will see this beauty at some people in the future. I think not as much as a royal or nautilus but some will buy it. Which makes it for me more exclusive. Because it’s the high end every day watch which nearly no one has. About the movement and finishing I would say we don’t have to talk a lot. It’s a Lange. Very german movement. Finishing is world class.
