One word: RANGE. If it can't get 400 mi in range don't bother. If range anxiety isn't bad enough on the roadway, it becomes many times more critical for off-roaders. Climbing trails will such batteries, and nobody's going to risk getting stuck in the middle of no-man's land with a depleted battery needing to call for a rescue. Its just not worth it. BTW, the windows are also ridiculous. The car should be open and airy. Not claustrophobic with peephole windows.

They missed a perfect chance to market a legend to the overland community. No one wants to take an ev across the wilderness. May as well be called a scoot instead of a scout.

I think a turbo diesel hybrid would sell like hotcakes. If they base the diesel on a ALH I'll take one.

I don't see how this can happen with the early stage EV bubble bust going on.....if they do a hybrid, it'll work. They'll be able to compete with the Ford Maverick.

Used to be a badass, relatively simple off roader. What should we do to bring it back? Oh, I know, make it ass ugly, give it that awful retro-futuristic look with a stupid LED slapped on the front. Make sure it's an EV so that nobody who's into serious off roading will want anything to do with it. Make sure it weighs 14 tons due to the stupid battery so it's useless off road for the 3 people who actually try such nonsense. Absolutely terrible in every way.

The reason the scout name has a legacy and is and icon was that it was simple, robust and worked, like their tractors…….. for DECADES. EVERY International Harvester tractor we had on the farm growing up is still running and working. One is 41 YEARS old and the other is 52 years old. It is silly that VW bought Navistar and inherited the Scout name now thinks it can use this legacy to create a battery powered vehicle that will carry on said legacy. So , a particularly unreliable vehicle manufacturer is going to build an electric vehicle that will “carry on the legacy” of a company that built farm equipment, M1 garands for WW2, trucks and semi trucks? Really? Wow. I recommend laying off the red cool-aide people. No outdoorsman or farmer will want a techno laden range anxiety toy. Nor will they pay 60k for the same. This will be a Starbucks go cart for wannabes with more money than sense. I hope I am totally wrong. I was excited when I heard rumblings that a Scout might me coming back……. We shall see. Predictions-VW will shut it down in 3 years after it hemorrhages money, has delayed launches and few sales. Yes, I know it is in a America and VW is claiming a hands off approach.

Anything EV is a loser. Offer a Scout ICE version with round headlights, then we're talking.

Yes, they came to the current deal with Rivian sometime after the plans for Scout were finalized. My guess is they think the market is big enough to support two similar brands, especially if they can cut costs by sharing technology

Please refer to all the other electric SUVs that are sitting on dealership lots. What a crying shame to desecrate another storied American name. Do not waist your time releasing it in North America. Look at how well Rivian and the EV Jeeps are doing. Put an gasoline in it, or don’t bother.
