I had a boy Bichon that looked just like her! How do I get one like her? His spiritually little brother, and the love of my life is a 16 yr old maltese, Aspen. We've been through heck in the last year. I almost lost him twice. Though he's definitely not the same dog he was even a couple years ago, I think I've managed to get him to a place of stability where he's not on the edge anymore, at least for now, as long as I stay vigilant. But that leads me to my problem. I'm trying desperately to learn how to groom him here at home. I've watched so many videos, which lead me to yours, but I still don't feel confident. I'm not trying to save money. That's not the problem. Leaving him all day at a place with 30 or 40 dogs when he has gone through a severe auto immune disease (IMTP) has severe osteo, and the lady I've been going to for years who is great (but he's still there all day which is just not an option for me anymore) after his last grooming he had a severe yeast infection in the ear which was a trip to the emergency vet where they had to put him under to clean and apply medicine. So here I am!

Stephen Pickering Hello, she’s a Bichon Poodle Mix, not purebred by any means. You should never buy any purebred pup unless they’re a registered kennel on the AKC website. I’m shocked ANY vet would sedate a dog that age for a simple yeast ear cleaning. And it’s time for a one-on-one groomer like a house call groomer, mobile groomer or for comfort grooms at a vet. At that age, any groom at home could mean the end from the anxiety alone. The danger of you hurting your baby is very very real. Please find a one-on-one groomer who is willing to groom him as good as they can. It’s about comfort at this point rather than aesthetics. And what a great job you’ve done loving this pup! What a long beautiful life! ❤️❤️❤️😁

I have 6 poodles at home that I am looking to start grooming at home in between their grooming appointments. I have been trying to watch reviews on here for the past few weeks but I think where I have so many I prefer going with a 2 speed corded clipper. Which would you recommend for that? And they all have different textures of coats going from very fine to very thick and course that mattes so easily! Thank you so much for taking the time to make the videos and help all of us at home with questions out!
@jillymoochgrooms

Hi! I wish I had six poodles! But yes that does bring with it a high cost for grooming. That said, I do not recommend anyone Groom their Dog at home. It requires extensive training of anatomy, psychology and biology and you could easily hurt your dog without intending to. I recommend that you keep them on a regular schedule of a minimum of every four weeks. If you have six photos then you know the costs associated with grooming and that cannot be avoided. You can either go to grooming school or take them to a professional groomer. I do not advise or recommend anyone who has never done it before and has no training to take a clipper to their dog. I am very sorry if this is not the answer you were hoping for. My videos, for the most part, are made for professional groomers not for pet owners. ❤️❤️❤️

Hi Gilmer Puckett - I have eight dogs including a Standard Poodle and four Toy Poodles. They range in ages from 6 years (Standard) to 12 years. I am not a groomer and groom them all myself. I taught myself by watching DVD's and KZbin clips. I bathe and trim my dogs every 7-10 days. I find it easier to keep them in shape that way. I am aware of the danger areas on a dog and how to use clippers and scissors in these areas for the safety of my dogs. Being an ex Nurse I am aware of how to maintain equipment and work in a hygienic fashion. I guess it would be hard for you to take on six dogs all at once. I started with my first but quickly went to four and later eight as I added new dogs to my family. Groomers who I know comment on what a good job I do. I have the luxury of being able to take my time. I love my Heiniger Saphir, Heiniger Midi and Heiniger Mini. I have Bravura 5:1 and Bravura Mini. I recently purchased an Artero Spektra just to use for trimming faces which I really like.

I've been trying to research a decent overall clipper for my doodle. I can't get him into the groomers because we're all on lockdown. I was leaning towards the Bravura but another channel said those were more for feet, face, and sanitary. What one clipper would you recommend to someone that needs to maintain their dog in times like these? I'm not interested in changing blades like on the KM10. Something with guards would be ideal. Thanks. It did look like the Chromado got through the coat a little nicer than the Bravura though.
@jillymoochgrooms
@jillymoochgrooms 4 жыл бұрын
Hello! That depends on the size of the doodle and the length and condition of his coat. The KM has interchangeable blades but you can also use their snap on comb guard set. I do think the Clamato would probably be a safer bet for you for getting you through this time.; But you have to make sure you brush and comb, bathe and dry, and brush and comb again before you use the clipper. And you have to do your research because you could really hurt/cut your dog if you don’t. Grooming at home is not as easy as it sounds or looks so please proceed with as much caution and education as you can find online before you do anything. If you can wait it out by brushing and combing at home then that’s what I would recommend. I do not recommend anyone who has not been properly trained to groom their dog at home unless it’s emergent due to matting. In that case, a vet can do a health groom. It’s just hair and it grows back. I’m happy to answer any more questions you have!

@@jillymoochgrooms Thanks for taking the time to write this. Our dog was overdue for a groom before we got the shelter in place order and we'll be on lockdown another month, at least. But I'll try and get by with the brushing. He's not matted. The hair just outside his ears always get greasy and causes an odor. Thanks again for the reply.

The Patsy Family of course! Then I would recommend doing a bath after a good brush and comb. Make sure to shampoo and condition and rinse thoroughly. Brush and comb after the bath and then blow dry. Put cotton balls in your dogs ears to keep the water out and just make sure to wash them well to remove the buildup. The most delicate places are the armpits and the tuck up where the back leg meets the belly. Loose skin is what you have to watch out for. I think that you will do great and if you need any advice please let me know; I’m happy to help you through the groom through video conference if you like.

Hi Stevie, first...you do have a choice...keep brushing and combing at home and wait for your groomer! Please consider that before you take clippers to your fur baby. It’s not as easy as it looks and you could cause serious injury. I recommend that you reach out to your groomer for at home brushing, combing and bathing help; but I do not recommend that you use a trimmer or shears without guidance and training. You can catch skin in the blade, cause clipper burn or much much worse...many people are jumping in too quickly due to stress and worry during this time. I am happy to help you with appropriate at home coat care which will help you make it through until your groomer re-opens if you can’t get a hold of them. Please let me know. I’m also happy to go live and answer any questions you or other followers have!

Thanks! I've been doing so much research, my head is spinning. I've always used Andis products, but the last couple years I've had to return and replace countless clippers and blades. Andis customer service is the worst! They are so accusatory and basically argue with you trying to get you to admit to misuse of the product. One of my Clippers started smoking straight out of the box. Sent it in and they said nothing was wrong and sent it back. It didn't work. Now my serviced pair sounds like a lawnmower... Been warned off wahl for years, but Andis increased prices so they're the same as wahl now. May as well try them. Your video has been helpful. After a year, do you still hold the same opinions on these products?

Actually my Chromado didn’t last very long. I was very disappointed. The Bravura is a grooming staple in the industry; but I have to say that I prefer my Andis clippers over Wahl. The Pulse ZR II is my workhorse on everything. I bought wide blades and the wide guard combs and omg I’ll never use a regular size blade again...except for my Andis Pulse Li 5 in one. I like the balance and Andis 5 in one blades better. I know a lot of people have had trouble with the endless Pulse ZR two clipper but, I personally have not. And the five and one blades by end us last longer than the Wahl. So that’s where I am a year later! When you know better you do better!

@@jillymoochgrooms thanks for the response. The chromado and bravura are currently the same price on petedge, so I was comparing them. I'm looking for something a bit easier on my hands than my agc2. My andis agc 2 used to work amazing, the ultraedge super 2 is the one that endlessly had issues. Neither have been a very good product when I replaced my old clippers about 2yr ago. I have been wanting a cordless with a corded option, but need less vibration. I've used the oster volt and pro3000i cordless but they're just as pricey as Andis. I don't want to drop that kind of money and end up with another dud.

@@Fluffy_Love I hear that. I would go with the pulse li 5 in 1 personally or the bravura. The Wahl guard combs fit on the Andis. I don’t think they have them for the 5-in-1 but like I said my Wahl guard combs work just fine. I can groom a well prepped standard with that 5 in 1 no problems. Best of luck!

What are the quietest dog clippers? Our dog really doesn’t like being clipped so we thought we would try some silent models.
@jillymoochgrooms
@jillymoochgrooms 4 жыл бұрын
marksapollo You should take him regularly to a professional groomer who can work on desensitizing him to the sound and the sensation of the clipper. All clippers are machines and therefore make noise. If he doesn’t like to be clipped there is a higher risk of you injuring and/or cutting your pup or him hurting himself trying to avoid it. If that happens, then you have an expensive vet bill to pay at the very least; I recommend bringing him to a Professional groomer on a regular basis or to a veterinarian where he can be groomed under sedation if he is aggressive during grooming. Please do not attempt to do it yourself at home; so many things can go wrong and I’d hate to see that happen.

Your videos are so educational! Thank you. I will be starting a grooming business from home. You did some other videos with Wahls. Is there a big difference between the Figura, Bravura & Chromado? I'm a beginner and hope to advance to professional (grooming for friends). Could you please help me by advising which one is best of the 3? I've researched and they are very similar, same price range, all 5 in 1, just the Figura has 6,000 SPM while Bravura & Chromado are 5,500 SPM.

Help!!! I have a Yorkiepoo that is mostly poodle and all black which makes it hard to see his face and nails. My cheap clippers died and I need to get something else. I'm going blind reading all the reviews. Do I need a pair for the hair and separate for the face , head and backside? Please give me your best professional recommendation. His hair is thick and I like a kinda short cut in the summer ( not shaved ) but maybe a medium for the winter. :(
@jillymoochgrooms
@jillymoochgrooms 5 жыл бұрын
Ann Ragsdale Hi Ann! I need a few details...is he curly coated? Do you do a clean face and feet like a poodle? If so, you’ll prefer a 5-in-1 for that. It sounds like you might need a clipper that allows you to change blade lengths...using different attachable blades...but I don’t know how much experience you have? They do require safety knowledge to make sure you avoid things like clipper burn or accidental nicks...So if you prep his coat well (good product and proper drying techniques) then (I assume he’s small) you may get by with the Chromado and the guard combs which will allow you to achieve different lengths depending on what you like for each season. If you look at my videos I did another clipper review where I highlight the Andis pulse ZR two. That clipper allows you to change the blade and/or use guard combs. The five in one clippers like the Chromado comes with one blade that is adjustable and guard combs that slide right over that single blade. I would be happy to help you. You could message me on my Instagram @jillymoochgrooms and send me a video or pic of him and that would help me answer your questions more clearly. I am more than happy to help!

Darren Johnson Hi! There was a time when they were having snagging problems; but Wahl was very quick to address it with anyone that had blades that dulled quickly or snagged. Amazing customer service. They sent everyone replacements and asked for the bad blades to make sure to find out what was wrong. I don’t find they get too hot at all; especially the diamond blade. I’m a low volume salon and I take very good care of them; so they last me forever; but I’ve heard they can last up to 6 months or longer with proper care!

Thank you for the video. I am a newbie to home grooming, but confident I can learn. I have a long haired cat that is young, doesn't like to be brushed, so naturally he is going to get some mats, he has one right now and I want to nip this in the bud and maintain. I am debating between the Bravura and the Chromado, I am thinking the Chromado but like the idea of the cord/cordless option of the Bravura. I am sure the noise will be a factor, but the "balance" appeals to a newbie groomer. In reading the reviews of the Chromado, they say it is not fit for clipping only trimming, I most definitely must trim him on his hind quarters/privates, but was also wanting to do an all over "longer" clip, not that lion thing. Just enough to help him with his grooming. So, what is your opinion? P.S. I will be getting a Rough Collie, so am thinking of clippers to groom him as well in the short future. Thanks, looking forward to your advice. I would also appreciate any advice on what I should be purchasing to maintain the tools as well. Would you also expand on the "problems" with the 5 in one blade and how you feel they have addressed it.
@jillymoochgrooms
@jillymoochgrooms 4 жыл бұрын
Penny Hi Penny! Thank you for reaching out! You have a lot of questions and they all require some detailed answers. Grooming is not just about looks but also about animal science, anatomy, animal behavior and physiology among other things. The most important flag to me is that if your cat does not like to be brushed he is going to hate being groomed with the clipper. If you can’t manage to brush him at home I don’t know how you’re going to bathe, blow dry, and trim. If you bathe your cat with mats they will tighten and cut off circulation to the skin; matting is a health issue at that point. Cats have tissue paper thin skin and if you cut them out you do risk cutting skin that has been pulled up into the mat. There is a lot more research you need to do And I do not recommend you do this yourself on any level. Even your dog. A collie is a whole other process for grooming. I have more response coming just a moment

Jilly Mooch Grooms sorry, I wasnt clear, i only am thinking of using clippers on his privates so no poop on hair. I agree on my cat. It is weird, but he is so compliant in so many ways, I plan to take time to slowly introduce him and make a better effort to get him accustomed to grooming. As far as the clipping..for future preventative, I am going to work on tbe mat with scissors and dont worry I always have only used scissors at the top of the mat then comb, then alittle more. I have never considered trying to clip a nat at the skin, cant imagine that is not common sense. Btw I know to bever clip the coat of herding breeds, double coats, sorry I wasnt clear. I just found that mat on ny cat today and want to address asap so it doesnt fet worse and be proactive knowing he will be prone to mats. As fas as his coat it is very thick, so I thought I could just run the clippers to shorten a little and of course big trim on belly, legs and behind. No face, head, ears.

Sheri Lynn Hi, all blades will get hot because the steel rubs together on the blade while it’s clipping. There is absolutely no avoiding it. You should have multiple blades to change out during grooming to avoid clipper burn. And also clipper spray, Andis Cool Care is what I recommend. I would recommend watching my other video which highlights the Andis pulse ZR II, it’s a great clipper but I do find it to be heavy. Wahl makes the KM in both cordless and corded.
