I have my Waldorf Iridium Keyboard now and I am so in love. There is nothing to be disappointed about and so much to work with. This synth is one to learn and grow with for a long time, which is exactly what I wanted. I also work with a Moog Matriarch and other semi-modular and modular synths. What the digital Iridium and Analog Moog to is support each others sounds, compliment each other and fill in all of the gaps. Drum machines, vocals and some guitar part do the rest. I am sure if given the space and if I have endless money in the bank I would still find synths to buy, but I am no longer looking for acquiring other synths. I just want to take both synths to a remote place and write and play all day and night until it all just clicks into place, the songs and the lyrics. And I am already making real headway. I just couldn't get the creativity out of software, at least at this point. I needed it to be more like hardware, the Iridium Keyboard does just that. Midi mapping, and loosing Midi mapping in the computer VSTs is so incredibly frustrating with controllers. NO MORE of that.

I absolutley love my Iridium keyboard, which I play through a 1982 Pioneer amp, and 1991 Mission speakers (when I'm not using my AKG studio reference headphones). I use a MacBook Pro and Logic Pro X, which connects via my incredible Solid State Logic SSL2, which has magic 4K buttons to make the sounds even more analogue. I nearly bought mine from Anderton's however, there was no three year warranty option, so I ended up buying it £150 less, and that included a three year warranty! When you're spending that much on electronic equipment, an extended warranty is vital in my opinion.

Got a feeling after Creative labs bought ensoniq (pretty much the only keypads to have it (after the CS80) , as it was their own tech and ip... Maybe the Patent has expired ? Because Ive been using PT since 90.. However.. not all the time, Back then , the midi data could choke the midi ports.. So, it was a Def for this.. Off / or filtered on other recoded channels.. However.. Now days, especially with the new V2 midi spec incoming... we need not worry about saturating midi outs (as in Physical Harware) Thus MPE gonna get Tracktion... Check out eespesivee.s new MPE keyboard,.... It really is the next level compared to Roli

This is the only viable alternative if you want poly aftertouch.. Altough, this is so much more then just a wavetable synth.. where it steps up from the Hydra, is the fact you can import wavetables.. hydra is more a single way of approach, where this seems to be all over the place.
@paulmapp83062 жыл бұрын
@@lordbachus Dont..... Had the Hydrasynth, sold it and picked the Iridium up... Its Soooooo much better than HS at almost everything. The keybed is much nice. The only thing the HS arguably does better is VA - its got a little more weight to the Oscilators, the Iridium is a little soft. As I have a Pro3, OB6, Prophet 6 - a peak and a fantom 7 already - that didnt bother me. Filters are great on the iridium though - I prefer them to the HS.

I’ve been saving up for one of these but Jack doesn’t seem as hype for this synth as he was for others like the UDO Super 6. I really respect Jack and his opinions and skill on the keys, I may shift my focus to something else.
@paulmapp83062 жыл бұрын
@Terry Murray DONT... got test it yourself. Jack does a great call, but he has preferences which do come through at times. He didnt Gel with the Roland Fantom but I love mine - best LIVE board Ive ever had (for various reasons). Jack Loves Nord - I cant stand them (bad keybeds and the synth sections are poor). Thats fine - but you cant judge just from someones take. Iridium is deep - took me 2 days to really start to get it, Jack cant do that - he doenst get the time with things - they are either immediately to his taste (workflow or sounds) or not - and its hard to get excited about things that arnt. Super six is great - Id have one if I could fit it (keyboard is too long for any gap I have and the desktop too deep), but tis a different animal to Iridium. Iridium runs rings round SS in most things it does. SS has the analogue filters and does a certain thing (that thing it was designed to do) better. You have to ask WHAT DO YOU WANT./NEED. Then narrow down boards that fill those wants/needs - then go test them. Iridiun DESONT do immediately warm and rich subtractive analogue - its a digital synth. It DOES them, but they dont just jump out. SS they very much do. SS cant do FM, or granular. The wavetable stuff is not in the same league either. Honestly, My Iridium is up there with any synth I own.... If I have to sell them all but one, Id would be a tough call...OB6 for analogue character, Fantom for the acoustic stuff and live abilities (multitimbral).... BUT if it was a home board, Id take the Iridium. You - and Jack - may well be different. Its all good, but you owe it to yourself, if youve considered one to at least go play one.... i held of the Iridium Desktop for 18 months.... jumped on the keyboard for the Poly Aftertouch, and wondered why I waited so long.

I’m not convinced that it is £2 k better than the cobalt 8 x ( 5 octave) ….maybe I should be comparing with the UDO super 6 and or the hydra synth Deluxe? Would that be a fairer fight?
@BappinProductions2 жыл бұрын
Cobalt8 is a VA synth with a few little extras, not a fair comparison at all. HS Deluxe is a better vs and if you need the extra keys and or you are not bothered about sampling/granular or 6 operator FM capabilities or user wavetable import, which are all missing from the HS, then it’s a solid choice. The Hydrasynth range are amazing synths but the Iridium/Quantum range are on another level again and carry a price tag to suit.

In reality, getting any of the synths you’ve mentioned, is pretty much guaranteed to lead you to many many wonderful sounds! To directly focus on you comparison though between the Cobolt & Iridium K, it’s all down to the scope of the synthesis, & as someone who’s been using the Iridium desktop for about 2 years now, I can tell you that you’ll be hard pushed to find a DEEPER synthesis platform, especially one with such an approachable user interface, & the breadth of sounds it’s capable of is quite simply STAGGERING

@@briannicepianoworship8944 I don‘t agree at all. I‘ve owned a Prophet X for 4 years now and really explored all of its limits. The main disadvantage: only 1 filter, albeit analog stereo, compared to the Iridium‘s 3. Yes, there a tons of samples, but over 50% are iterative crap and sound way too dull. You can‘t send them through the filter without making the oscillators sound too bright. It‘s just the most poorly conceived synth Sequential has issued in this century. My hope is that this waldorf synth family will inspire the next generation of DSP programming and feature implementation, which will cost a fraction of the price of this piece, which currently enjoys novel status. We are entering the world of a computer in a box, which will become very cheap regarding the cost of the hardware vs analog and older tech re-works. the keybed and the hardware knobs will become the most expensive part of these digital synths. ps andertons is really tacky having ads in their videos.

Not surprising its "underwhelmind".... Its not a synth you can pick up - twiddle knobs, and its just great. Its deep. There are over 3000 sounds onboard from the factory - many are atmospheric, cinematic types - they show off the ethereal engine. There are some classic analogue sounds in there, but the chances of hitting one with a knob twist.... not likely. This is more versatile than ANY board at its price point - but its not doing analogue like a Super six - or Polybrute (both of which have analogue filters and are designed PRIMARILY as analogue subtractive synths). Neither of those sample, or do FM - or have... so take pick your flavour
