The Oris Aquis was the very first ‘luxury’ watch I bought back in 2018, and several Tudor’s later it’s arguably still my favourite. I chose Oris because of the history, independence, and as you state the shear straight talking honesty of the brand … and by god they make a nice timepiece for the money.

Last week I said in a subreddit that my Diver's 65 was my most underrated watch. Not sure I will be able to say that much longer. Oris is getting the love it deserves these days. PS: 2-tone was the rage in the mid-80s and I think it's making a huge comeback. I love my 2-tone 16803 and am waiting on a new root beer.

Hi Adrian, I've just purchased a black bay s and g in 41mm, and love the brushed gold two tone look. The tudor now costs £4300 new, so how you can say that tudor is not a luxury brand . That's over 2 months salary for the average man . Not many people can afford to spend 4k on a watch , so to say Its not a luxury brand is just silly. Most of the famous Swiss watch brands are luxury watches. Yes they might not be in the patek phillipe leaque , but how many people own one of those ?

I have 3 older Oris's bought in the 80'& 90's they were an entry level swiss watch then. Its good to see them pushing themselves and doing so well now. They have quite a big range, but it's a shame they no longer make any tonneau shaped cases. Always nice to see something more unusual, but I suppose you have to make things with a fairly broad market appeal. Love that they still use date pointers on some watches.

I don't understand the negativity around 2-toned watches: to me it's just another color choice. It's not outdated at all, it's extremely elegant and I have several. My first "nice watch" I bought with my own money at 19 yrs old was in 1997: a Fossil "Blue" 2-tone chrome and gold, aqua dial (exactly like the ORIS in this video) with MOON PHASE!! I was so proud to own it and I still have it in my watch collection. It still works too. I don't listen to snobs who follow trends and criticize your style choices, especially when certain styles are timeless (2-tone Rolex Datejust). Watch snobs are like tabloid writers.

It's wise for Oris to limit the gold material as a decorative highlight on the bezel, hands, and indices in this Aquis design, instead of going all out into the bracelet like many Rolexes. It's enough to make a statement that the brand has made it into the territory of serious luxury, without losing its identity as a no-nonsense tool watch.

The Diver 65 is in a tricky price point. The new 65 with 5 day power reserve and in house movement is priced at $4,900 AUD. Compared to a BB58 at $5,000 AUD, I’m not sure if many people would pick the Oris?

I had the Oris with the 400 movement, it went to service for not performing 3 times and then I had the right to give it back. A watch that does not really works the way it is being advertised I not want in my collection. This calibre has lots of (known) issues and personally I would go for Tudor that you mentioned.

I've got an Aquis with the 400 movement and I am quite underwhelmed. The crown does not easily and surely move into its various positions after unscrewing it, the hands jump when setting it (although I heard that has been fixed) and the power reserve is definitely not 120 hours. It's a beautiful watch, but by no measure my best functioning watch.

Great video. I would love for you to do a review of Ulysse Nardin. I'm new to the brand but have already taken mine to the top of summits and through some amazing waves while I'm waiting for my new Rolex. As a surf/tool watch I have found this to be the closest in comparison for durability to Rolex. I have used Panerai, Zenith, Clerc, Omega, Hublot as well as other less expensive brands. Many of which I've found to not actually be really reliable in extreme water environments. Rolex has always been consistently functional as well as Cartier, some of their older sport models I tried in water sports years ago and they never leaked. Its actually amazing how much can be spent on a watch from many of these brands that doesn't actually do what they say it will do. I have been most disappointed in Omega for tool purposes. Sand getting stuck in the bezel on one model due to some quality control on how the bezel was placed. But so far, Ulysse Nardin has been flawless, reliable and done everything they claim like a Rolex. But I haven't seen it on your channel, maybe I missed them.

The two-tone Rolex explorer is a king in this respect. Many of us give or receive luxury watches as a celebration or reward for a mission accomplished. We don’t spend top dollar to accompany us on our struggles. The Explorer is perfect because we see all these challenges as metaphorical mountains to be climbed, and at the end of it, what better way to reward ourselves or our close ones, than with gold.

Given the price of gold and the fact that it is easier to work than stainless steel, I am always depressed by the substantial price increase between steel and gold versions of the same watch. The amount of gold employed is often tiny but the increase in price is usually huge. I feel that all the brands rip us off royally when there is a gold version (or slight gold enhancement) in comparison with the steel version. Oris is the same. Price is up by 73% for (10 grams?) of gold which is worth about £400

Yeah, your logic doesn't fit man! In the US the price between the gold and stainless steel models is about 30% different. And while you are correct that gold is softer, it is not inherently any easier to machine. It's a bit obvious that the gold is a branding move, I'm trying to figure out why that is bad? If you want the previous metal version, spend the money. If you don't, then don't. You aren't being ripped off.

You have a point : what Oris (and Longines) does is actually more relevant to most of us than the fluctuations of the Patek 5711 Green dial on Chrono24. I do respect Oris as a brand and I wouldn’t miss a podcast featuring their US CEO. Having said that, I am not a fan of the Aquis range and usually find two-tone outright tacky. I just don’t understand this watch. If I were, God forbid, to buy a two-tone model, I would go full two-tone, case and bracelet, Rolex Explorer style. Here, it looks like the bracelet was taken from a standard steel Aquis. PS : along with Oris, Sinn is another no BS company. Does what it says on the tin.

Gerald Genta's personal royal oak was this configuration (full steel but with YG bezel). It's becoming more popular lately and I think it's a good way to jazz up a watch without making it too gaudy. See also the Apollo XI 50th (S+G) speedy and IWC's 1992 Ingenieur 500,000 A/M. The Cartier Santos two-tone has a similar feeling despite the yellow gold screws because it's a much subtler execution of two-tone for the bracelet compared to a middle link like on an oyster. IDK, I dig it.

I'm not sure if the move to two-tone is a sign of the health of the new watch market. I think it's really Oris trying to catch the wave of two-tone. Oris is really consolidating their catalogue. Gone are the calibre 111 to 113 Arteliers, gone is the Gold of the Arteliers, but then all the movement and precious metal focus has shifted to Aquis and also Big Crown, I think that is the way forward. I find all these dedicated editions a bit too much, doesn’t seem serious anymore with so many all over the place. Better focus on a few and do that consistently and with real dedication. Does the moving minute hand when setting date issue with the Calibre 400 still exist? If so, this is irrelevant no matter how good it looks.

Looking at the blue two tone sub side by side with the Oris, and comparing specs, how would you explain to a stranger who knew nothing about watches why one is £3k and the other £11k (if you can get one)? The incredible power of brand and the unfathomable increase in desirability that comes with unobtainability… most of us want what we can’t have. What a great product from Oris though

Nice watch! Though looks like Oris still has the issue with bezel back play

The waitlist problem for Rolex, AP and PP are making us look at other brands who are offering stunning alternatives. I like the look of this Oris. Love the channel Adrian 🖐

If you buy an Oris over one of those 3, you’ve lost the plot. Also, you can’t afford those 3 if Oris is catching your eye.

@@hodad924 I’ve got a few of the three in my collection already and have been waiting for a few years for additional watches from an AD. No stock available to me, despite purchase history. So it’s not about the money nor for the want of trying. I’ve not considered Oris and I’m always open to suggestions. 🖐

I think Panerais in the secondary marker are very interesting. A lot of decent watches at big discount.

I still feel as though this is wayyyy overpriced considering the gold-bezeled Tissot PRX retails for $1800

That PRX isn't in the same Stratosphere as this watch. Starting with the movement

I partly agree. Paying an extra £1700 for a few grams of gold on that Aquis is ridiculous. But the PRX in gold is also overpriced. Both watches in steel offer a good level of value for money. But the gold versions are a rip off.

Crown and center links should be gold too. Not solid maybe capped like tudor.

That is a beauty of a watch. Blue and gold usually ends up looking cheap and tacky (Invictus, I'm looking at you) but this Oris just oozes class.

Nice move for Oris, certainly an under appreciated Brand outside of the Watch Community

Oris…. great to see you championing something outside the Rolex-Omega punch up. You have consistently held this line. Long may you continue. Keep up the excellent work and variety.

I really want to like Oris more than I do. I just find their cases too puck-like. There’s too abrupt a meeting between the strap & case because the latter is almost too round. I really can’t get past that hour hand, either!

I love these watches, but cannot understand why Oris persists in adding AR coating to the outside of the crystal. The rest is epic.
