Yes, this is not a true Superclone. From the available videos on KZbin, these have even better finishing on some parts of the case and the dial than the Rolex itself. Only what gives the copy away is some really fine details, but in the end, the movement will be a dead giveaway. The Breguet overcoil hairspring with stellar screw balancing is too expensive to copy.

I own one Rolex 16613. Bought it new from an AD, back in 1998. On its most recent maintenance at a Rolex-owned AD(hint) in Switzerland, the lady at the counter insisted that my Rolex was a fake. I demanded an expert come and look at my watch. He did and confirmed it to be genuine. It's a pretty sad state of affairs when an official AD in Switzerland can make this type of mistake. Even though my wife presented the watch with my paperwork, the whole episode proved a bit embarrassing. That sub will remain my first and LAST Rolex.

Nah, the extra price is always in the detail. Despite what so many people say the so called super clones is still not the same as a Rolex, not even close, when you really study the details. I think for a producer in China to make a 100% copy of a Rolex, a copy that no one could tell the difference the production price would be higher than what Rolex make one for, at least at the start as they would need to invest in a lot of very high grade production equipment and they would have to have a lot of trial and errors before they succeed. So for all of you that can’t get a new Rolex or pay the higher price on the grey market just get a vintage Rolex, still fantastic watches but at a more manageable price. One can get a 36mm explorer for £4500-5000, fantastic watch and you don’t need to buy a fake that in reality is worthless.

What I'd worry about is the lifetime for the movement, its accuracy, and the ability to fix it. Any watch that is designed to fool people probably isn't designed to WORK as well as it looks. Of course there is the ethical issue and that is important. But I'm saying even from a fully practical standpoint, it would be a risky buy unless you didn't care how long it continued to work.

I can tell you from personal experience: it will be fine for 3-5 years, then it will stop running properly or the applied hour markers will fall off the dial, and nobody will fix it for you. Still, if it only lasts 5 years, that’s maybe $100/yr to wear something that looks exactly like the real thing to the naked eye. You’d have to wear a real GMT Master II for 150 years to get the monthly amortization down to $100. By that measure, I think clones are good value even if they are disposable.

Besides buying from an AD or the grey market, you can also buy pre-owned. Personally I find a 5-digit GMT-Master II much more appealing than a 6-digit. My mate bought a Pepsi from them as well. As an enthusiast of legit 'luxury' watches, i couldn't tell the difference, but i didn't have an original to compare it against like the video, and even at that, i think you would still struggle to find the subtle differences to the untrained expert eye. I spot people's watches regularly when i'm out, and i'm seeing more and more younger people with Rolex's on, you know the ones you can't actually buy unless on the grey market, so either they've maxed out their credit cards and got themselves into stacks of debt by paying over the odds for an original, or they're buying replicas, which is more likely. Before selling my last Rolex in 2019, i went into the Rolex AD in my local city centre to enquire about a Submariner and they refused to put me on the 'waiting list' at that time, i then went ahead and sold my watch privately, which i realise now was a mistake because i can't buy another from any AD anywhere! So the fault of and rise of these replica's IMO, lies with Rolex and their AD's who are refusing to sell to people who want to buy the real thing. The psychological aspect of wearing a replica v the real thing is too much for me, i could never buy a 'clone', wear it and pretend it is the real thing, but those that do only want to portray an imaginary image of wealth, i.e. a status symbol. Each to their own, but it wouldn't be me.

@@pasquale78 You can get a card that matches the serial on the clone. Rolex serials are randomized so there is no way to tell if a clone's randomized serial is real or not. Rolex doesn't offer a way to check, although I'm sure they could internally if they wanted to (but at that point the watch is in their possession they could tell anyway).

I have a genuine Rolex Explorer 2 that I bought in 1987 and just had serviced, nothing needed replacing (they wanted to but it was all cosmetic). Although I've not worn it every day, I doubt a super clone would last anywhere near as long. I'd say to anyone thinking about buying a clone - just don't. Save up for a real one, or just accept that you don't want to spend thousands on a watch.

The $1000 watch will last 5 years and end up costing $200/yr. You’d have to wear your genuine Rolex for 75 years to get it down to $200/yr, and that doesn’t even account for the cost of servicing a Rolex for 75 years. I agree with your sentiment, but not your math. The clone and the real thing offer similar value for money. There are good reasons to avoid clones, but “too expensive” isn’t one of them. Personally, I’d rather spend $1000 on a Tissot or Longines than a fake Rolex, but not for economic reasons.

wearing those watches, real or fake, is stupid anyway. lets be real, people wear both the clone and the real one because they like the design and because they want to be seen in a certain light. rolex is hugely overpriced just like any hype brand. the only way in which rolex ownership makes sense and isnt just an ego project and a way to seek attention is when they are bought and not worn much if at all, and then sold for profit, however this is like a bubble or pyramid scheme, where the value of the watch is artificially inflated by restricted production, marketing and an increasing demand both from show offs trying to flex with them and investors trying to buy them to resell them. the money you can gain from owning it is a few thousand over a few months to a year maybe, which is little considering the money people who typically buy those make. unless you can get them from a dealer for the list price or a price where you know you can immediately sell them for a couple of thousand more, I would not bother at all, let alone actually trying to wear this every day. even if you are rich enough to not care, its valuable to deny yourself such purchases because in the end they are not smart, they are impulsive, and the reason you desire them is never noble. its good practice to deny yourself any materialistic pleasures as much as possible. you dont want to get used to wearing 15k watches, cause once you have them, you are going to start desiring other ones or even more expensive ones, and this never stops, and the more you give in to the urge and possibility to buy them without much consequence, the more reckless you will become with spending until it becomes a real issue. if you want to wear watches often, just buy those with appropriate quality and style that do not have a huge premium on top for hype and popularity.

That being said, it's a certified movement so in order to make a million of anything to that tight a specification then the manufacturing process needs to be very, very good. Back when they were cheaper they were a more acceptable proposition. But being plus or minus 2 seconds a day at $15k is not really a selling point anymore. Those watches have not improved in any earth shattering way the way cell phones have improved since the 2007 iPhone debut...yet Swiss luxury watch prices have inflated wildly in that same time.

I'm a retired machinist 40 years at the largest aerospace company in the US. The clone/fake craftsmanship was very good but many features on the original were clearly superior. I seriously doubt the fake movement would be close to the accuracy of Rolex. The life span of that fake movement would be short as well. Personally I don't own a Rolex instead have a PAM 111 and two Omegas all better values IMO than a Rolex. Don't get me wrong I respect Rolex.

no, the real rolex doesnt cost anywhere near 10k to produce. look what rolex watches used to cost before they became luxury clothing items. in todays money, a steel submariner would be worth 1000-1500$, a daytona 2000-2500$. if they would have a serial production without artificially limited numbers, the cost would also be significantly lower. those with gold, platinum etc. obviously would be significantly more expensive because of material cost, but still. the chinese super clones are very good. the only reason they are not literally perfect is because either they dont put enough attention to detail as its not worth the extra price increase, dont have good enough equipment, or intentionally get things wrong to create a need for new "better" ones, which will have the old issue fixed but another issue added. if a company had the right equipment to make these perfect, it would cost around the numbers I mentioned.

I don't think this watch was a super-clone. If you go to black market, all watches are called super clone.. To access the best one, you need to know a trusted dealer in China and know the factory where it was made. There are much better copies.. Saying that, watchmaker will still understand a watch is fake or real.

Interesting video. As others have pointed out, there are better clones than your "super" available for ~$600 now but, even those can be spotted with a bit of magnification and reference photos of a genuine watch. Also, a quick ride on a timegrapher would show a watch running outside of "superlative chronometer" spec. That said, I do see the use of a service like this for spotting "franken clones" using some genuine parts or verifying that some parts on a genuine watch weren't swapped with inferior third-party bits.

Also, If anything the clones are relatively good at timegraph performance and the difference between clone and gen is going to show up in real-world on-wrist accuracy, where the gen will be better because it will have less temperature and positional deviation. A timegrapher isn't a way to verify this, at all. I use a timegrapher to regulate NH movements, and just put my "Superlative Chronometer" genuine Submariner on and it is +3 or +4 right now depending on orientation, in the case, and that's only 2 years out of service with regular wear. Across a week of 24/7 wear though it is also around that same number (maybe even inside of +/- 3sd, whereas a lesser movement might be +2sd on the machine and +/-10sd on the wrist.
