New Water Scheme Part 3: Setting tanks - First 3rd complete.

The new water scheme is coming along. Getting the tanks up the hill is tricky but we got it done.

A beautiful Canterbury Day Alistair. Gee once you have got the water supply set up you will be able to graze your blocks more efficiently. Looks like you have got nice grass growth too. I hope the lamb prices stabilise in 2023. Always look forward for your videos 👍

Oroua valley rd all most exactly halfway between Kim and Apiti I have a maintenance contract on a beef and dairy farm here keeps me pretty busy

We will build boxes over the taps and have lagging for the pipes.

I scraped the pad with the digger but these tanks can't be buried.

I think you've over spent on tanks. The pressure break tank can be tiny - plus less surface area for the wind to act on. And with the top tank, that too I think is an overspend. I take it you have pumping and source capacity to meet daily needs and are not using the tank for multi day storage incase of a source capacity reduction. If a fault develops it is still going to need you to fix it - you just gat to know about it later rather than sooner if you have a large tank.

Both of the pressure break tanks at 3000L are used as extra storage. The 30,000 L tank may not be enough storage especially if the creek capacity drops in a dry summer. We have over engendered the scheme because we intend to increase stocking rates on the hills and the costs of pipe ect will always go up.

Impressive scheme; I have to ask how did you water stock on that land before doing all this?

stock would have had to travel back down i think this schemes to allow better utilisation to higher ground pastures as stock don't have to travel allowing them to put on fat5 not muscle

Spot On Kevin. All of the paddocks have some type of natural water. Some is reliable but some paddocks don't have water in summer. In some paddocks there is 100meters of elivatiin drop to the water source.

Interested to see how you plumb you troughs, we’ve gone to a Galv M & F then the PVC fitting, and run our pipe deeper. Had a lot of trouble with the cattle snapping off the plastic fitting when straight into the trough, during the wet season.
