I saw a lot of the Neat bands and other NWOBHM bands in Newcastle and Middlesbrough. Great days 🙂

Same here, Middlesbrough Town Hall crypt. I was a friend of the Black Rose lads, travelled to gigs with them quite a fair bit. They were a great band, the line up on this compilation was their peak for me, they lost their way when lead guitarist Chris Watson left and they added Keyboards and tried to sound all Bon Jovi, ish.

Let's be honest, the Midlands and North of England were right at the centre of NWOBHM - probably because of it's "working class" roots and coming out of the punk wave.

Definitely gotta get this! So cool to hear your perspective on the NWOBHM Phil. To me, it really seems like the peak of guitar based music. If i had to be alive during any musical period, that would be it. Doesnt get any better.

Hi Phil been busy last 10 days or so, so playing catchup with your videos and SOT, will be on track ASAP. Take care my friend 🤘💯🤘🤘🤘

Bought 'Now Hear This' by Hellenbach after reading a review in Kerrang! back in the day. Dave Patton captured the Van Halen guitar sound so much that some called them Halen-bach. Totally underrated and one can only imagine what would have happened if they'd been snapped up by a major and Ted Templeman produced. Great band.

What a great time that was to be a metal fan, bought most of the singles from the much missed One - Up Records in Aberdeen, some of the bands even came up here to play, which was a rare occurrence. Great memories of a more innocent time.

Another class video by Phil that hits the mark... NWOBHM is where it all got real for me... I have a few of those singles not too many tbh but a few ;-) 1980 was the year I went to my first real gigs at the Newcastle City Hall... Def Leppard with magnum and local heroes Tygers !!

There was a picture or poster of Garry Dalloway of Handsome Beasts in Kerrang (I think), with the heading similar to "what do you think girls?"

I was a bit young for NWOBHM - was around 11-12 in 82 and miss’s those early years - looks a good set - good to hear your 1st hand experiences of the time ❤

This is would be worth buying to get to know most of those bands featured. For those of us in North America (like me) who were teenagers in the 1980's just discovering Metal & Punk. I can confirm the only bands we knew (featured in that box set) were Venom, Raven & Tygers Of Pan Tang. The others would be my 1st listen.

Loved the video. Already got some Neat compilations, so I went and played something else ....... "Local Heroes". Loved NWOBHM in the early 80's and still loving it now. Thank you.

New wave of British heavy metal is one of my favorite metal genres, and I'd love to collect items related to it.

It's not a genre, it was a movement.

Hi Phil. When you were in The Handsome Beasts, do you remember playing the Red Lion, in Warrington? I'm sure I saw them there on a New Year's Eve.

I was there too and managed the hair bit but there was no danger of my band being signed 😂 We were booked to support Saracen one time but the venue then shut down temporarily and the gig was cancelled 🙄

Thanks Phil, Gee this is all new for me being in the states here... I turned 20 in 1975 and was on my way touring with Ritchie and Ozzy by then. I will send you photos soon! "I was there". A good title for a book you could write?

I saw Dedringer live a couple of times - they were a regular support band for some quite major acts, although I can’t remember who they opened for (!)
@iltonwhite8 ай бұрын
I'm sure they opened for The Michael Schenker Group on the 1981 On The Rack tour.
@terrydaktyllus13208 ай бұрын
I really want someone to release those two Dedringer albums on CD.

Phil, is this compilation remastered at all? All of the Neat single releases (A's and B's sides) were released in the early 2000's on 3 volumes of the "Neat Singles Collection" that was a total of 7 CDs (two double albums and one triple). I've got those (I love them to bits) so I'm just wondering if it's therefore worth my picking up this set.
@NowSpinningMagazine8 ай бұрын
It is remastered but some of these tracks were recorded with a limited budget so if you already have them I don’t think you will notice much difference.

Anglewitch were ,for me , the best and heaviest. Shame their debut album was so polished and reduced the power of the band.
