Hooky is my favorite bassist of all time. He created a signature sound with his bass that will influence generations of musicians. William Cashion of Future Islands is my current favorite bassist, and you can hear Hooky's influence in his playing. Or listen to The Foreign Resort's cover of Stevie Nicks' "Stand Back", where the synth part is replaced by a bass line that sounds straight from Hooky's bass. Nobody played the bass cooler than Peter Hook. That's probably because he seems like such a cool, smart, genuine, down to earth guy who'd you love to sit with and listen to stories for days. Hooky's the man, and a Hall of Famer in my book.

Prince played the keyboards in Stand Back. Stevie based the song off of the melody of Little Red Corvette. She called Prince about the song and he came down to the studio and helped her finish it.

I was a young artillery officer in the mid 1980s. And was also the very first New Waver that most of my fellow officers and soldiers ever met. The Army was largely filled with country music and southern rock fans. When I first arrived at my first command, I had the 1st Sergeant play Blue Monday to wake my battery up for PT my first day in charge. There were some surprised gunbunnies.

Blue Monday is a masterpiece. Here in New Zealand, the song spent 74 weeks in the top 50 (first week 5 May ‘83 at no. 9, & last week 21 July ‘85 at no. 44), and actually re-entered it 4 times. For some reason it resonated so deeply with us - hence it hitting no. 1 in ‘88 for 3 straight weeks.

"Blue Monday" was a popular staple in my all synth cover band in college. We covered Erasure, Depeche Mode, Yaz, Information Society, Joe Jackson, and some synth versions of some early MTV songs. Early New Order came later once we got requests and learned them. Ocean Blue and Electronic were bands I would have liked to play but unfortunately the band broke up.

Definitely one of the greatest songs ever. I'm fascinated by electronic music from that time. I was taking a deeper dive into disco a few years ago, and I was really surprised to find how synth-poppy a LOT of that stuff is! Donna Summer in particular. It's not the hippest thing to like disco, especially for someone in the US that's into modern rock/alternative, but it's funny how much that edgy synth-pop does owe to disco!

I loved this song but it was also my nightmare because when I was studying audio engineering I had an assignment in which I had to digitally re-edit this song from a jumbled up version. This was 25 years ago and the digital program we used was fairly new and glitchy and hard to use. OMG it took me ages to reassemble that song correctly. And you know what happened then? I finished my assignment and asked my lecturer to check it before I submitted it. He accidentally hit the Delete button and wiped the whole thing!! I hadn't had time to make a back-up yet. To say I was peeved would be an understatement. Luckily I remembered most of the edits so it took less time to re-do but I was irate nonetheless.

I got to see them once live at their beginnings, at an underground NYC parking garage turned into a rock club, with an extra room to the right of the short stage, turned into a side media room with a huge wall movie screen......, Showing either Mad Max or Road Warrior (don't remember clearly, lol), while New Order was playing! The NYC underground club was then called "Paradise Garage"! Real early 80's, for sure after "Blue Monday" popped, but not sure if it was their first gig or not in New York City! THE 80's WERE......., NOT BAD, LOL....!!!!!!!!!!

I discovered this song in a backwards sort of way: through the infamous cover of it by (the band) Orgy. I didn't know then that they were covering an 80s classic! The original is of course always the best. Hooky, though: he's a delight as always 🙃

This is one of the very few Synth Pop song I ever liked. Then years later Orgy did the cover of it, and took my guilty pleasure and made it okay to listen to out in public.

I didn't become familiar with New Order until "True Faith" in 1987 (amazingly bizarre and super cool video by the way), a single that interestingly moved up and down on the Billboard chart and then back up again and their 1993 comeback in the U.S. with "Regret."

Yeah. New Order has had some songs go in and out of the billboard hot 100. I really think Bizarre Love Triangle should've been a huge hit. Such a catchy song.

I kinda knew of this song before but it was also my love for True Faith that led me back to it. They're still the only two New Order songs I like and True Faith is one of my desert island discs (if you know what that is). Also loved the video for True Faith, that intro with the slapping timed to the percussion still makes me smile.

Strangely it seems certain 80s videos were ahead of their time back then. True Faith's video predicted VR and the video for Money For Nothing would show us CGI animation that would then become popular in the 90's
