You are correct about courses with par at 66 being a challenge. We have 2 here in Tynedale which are more difficult than par suggests. One of them has a course record at 63 gross - so just shows. Eng Golf saying our calc is: H/c Index x (slope / 113) + (course rating - par). So at my course Par is 70 but course rating is 71.7 (whites - slope 132) or 70.4 (yellows - slope 128). So by my reckoning I’ll get a Course H/c of 11.5 (W) or 9.9 (Y) versus 10 / 9 last year ( that’s before Playing H/c adjustments). If the course rating is below par then shots will be lost, I think.

It's gonna be strange I mean 36 points every round to play to your handicap. Should be achievable.

@@DunnGolfing here though, with our course rating 71.7 (par 70) shooting 34 points is basically ‘par’; so you don’t need to play to h/c to get cut. Going back to the local Par 66 courses - if you don’t shoot 40 points in comp, your h/c goes up.

Thanks for the update. Not sure i agree a par 66 is more difficult to play/hit handicap. Its the slope that determines difficulty not the par, if i have shot(s) added to my handicap when playing another course i figure its a tough track regardless of the par because my own course is pretty tough. Also to put into perspective if a player shoots a 59 on a par 66 thats 7 under but its 13 under on a par 72, basically twice as many birdies required😁

Guys off scratch have regularly shot 78//80 round our course it's much harder than the par suggests these guys shoot 67 round Stirling golf club 71 par

@@DunnGolfing If scratch players barely break a 10 handicap at your course then they should be getting extra shots due to the slope difficulty. Beyond that, either the slope rating is wrong on your course and should be rated more difficult, the other club is easier or has a slope rating that is wrong and should be rated easier or the players aren't scratch. I'm not saying your course is any less difficult to play than any other but your argument about it being more difficult to par than another course just don't stack up. That's the point of a slope rating.

I think basically if you play every round 36 points is your target any less points your going UP which is why I think many more golfers will go UP as apposed too Down 👇

They are now making it to where you must have a masters from MIT to keep score. Too many gurus controlling the game and how it’s played and how to score. Just play write down the number and if it’s better than the guys your playing with you must buy the drinks. Handicaps are only good to use in those type of tournaments and puts the good player at a disadvantage each and every time, now what fun is that???

That's why here Bill match play full difference is a bit of a joke when you're player a guy getting 2 shots a hole and mostly he's shooting par golf all of a sudden 😂
