I remember the Wolfspear being mentioned in the first Dark Imperium book. Apparently they were formed by Guilliman to stand guard over the Warp Rift where the last battle was fought before he officially announced the ending of the Indomitus Crusade. At least some of the Space Wolf descended Primaris Marines within the remainders of his Unnumbered Sons forces were inducted into this new Chapter, and some of them were none too happy about it, having been hoping to rejoin their kin on Fenris

Yeah, I think it's cool they're getting some lore and a bit of space in the codex. I could have sworn they were given a space station as fortress in order to guard some warp anomaly or some dangerous frontier or something like it in the book, but I don't remember the specifics off the top of my head.

I think they've done exactly the right thing. To do what you are bemoaning would straitjacket opportunities for creativity which is the cornerstone of the hobby. While it's nice to have everything detailed in lore it limits the opportunity for players to be creative with an original successor chapter. This light touch approach gives a few thematic prompts but otherwise allows players to come up with their own lore and colour schemes. Not everything must be documented and delivered in depth.

Their armor is called grey in both HH novels and the ragnar books. Its not distinguished if one is blue grey or not. Its all just grey in the books. The change in grey hue was purely an aesthetic choice for 40k

Sounds pretty awesome. here's to hoping any new Primaris Space Wolf units or Successor Chapters have models where there's some actual "wolfy" uniqueness that make them stand apart from other Primaris units. That last batch of Xmas Wolves are lame and generic except for paint schemes, a few tiny runes and wolfy hairdo. I'd like to see an all black Wolves successor chapter or black with a grey/blue shoulder to honor their First Founding.

Their home world is in Wilderness Space at the Pit of Raukos. 108/Beta-Kalapus-9.2. I found this 40kwiki so not sure if canon or not. In my groups deathwatch campaign a character was elevated to the Chapter Master status of the Spear and crossed the Rubicon. It was quite a wicked session.

I like the "new" symbol, mostly because im not that experienced with painting figures, and I painted a todd mcfarlane space marine, and even though it looks a little rough, it kind of fits with a battle worn space wolf basically slapping a new coat of paint onto his armor and having the symbol painted half hazardly.

There was a Horus Heresy novel where Russ meets a version of himself that grew up on a different world - one where the by product was a Russ completely devoid of his Viking and wolffishness. I suspect that successor chapter that eschews the legacy of Fenris might be a reference to that story.

Its in Wolfsbane i think. And it is a version of Russ had he grown up with the Emperor and not been scattered to Fenris. He looks and acts more like an Imperial officer. But that version tells Russ he is as he always was supposed to be iirc.

Considering the BA, DA, and SW have ZERO Successors listed in the main Codex, I am very disappointed that GW didn't take the opportunity to make more Successors for the SW. Like the Salamanders, they never had Successors, and that should honestly be explored, or why bother having a separate codex.

Couldn't disagree more. Brief descriptions and a name alone gets my imagination going. Hate how 40k has lost it's supportive nature for conversions. We're talking chapters in the thousands and yet only a handful of lords are around at every battle? Nah. Want my own unique chapters where I can be creative when making my own army, and have the rules to support it. I don't want to be a slave to a predetermined aesthetic for my successors. Leave more to interpretation and let people who arn't interested in it to play the generic chapters. I like this and what they have done.

Me too. About a company size. I just think of compromise by thinking mine as founding scheme when they guard rif door in Crusade Novel. Wolfspear in supplements is grew out from founding era to have their own doctrine.

It was always open for the Space Wolves to have successor chapters. I think it was the 6th Edition codex that said the Space Wolves don't recognize any chapter that claims to be of Russ's line as valid, and my read of that was the Mechanicus made some successor chapters without the Space Wolves permission and they're pissed about it.

It can be explained by Cawl getting access to geneseed from the SW before Magnus tainted it. He's been working on this since right after the Heresy and had geneseed sample from all 20 legions to work with.

Magnus never warped it. He simply stopped a rune priest,( name escapes me) from fixing the flaw by killing him. Bjorn himself said had he known he might have killed the preist himself for trying to take the beast out of them that gives them their killing edge. Novel battle of the fang. Been like 5 years since the read but thats what i remember. Cawl was the one who tweeked it so the canis helix was there just not wolf brothers crazy.

Cawl used the SW geneseed to make more. There are now an equal number of successors for all chapters. They are true Space Wolves too, with the Canix Helix and the flaw of the Wulfen.

There might have been 2,000 space wolves before and 20,000 ultramarines and successors but now there are 120,000 space wolves and successors and 120,000 ultramarines and successors and 120,000 salamanders and successors and the list goes on. (Totally made up numbers but you get the point) There's lots of all marines now.
