The interesting bit of the Angels Vermillion, is that they weren't even invited, due to Dante's embargo on the Chapter. So the ones who answered, defied not only their Chapter, but also the Blood Angels themselves, and Dante only accepted their aid, after they convinced him that they were there to pay penance for their Chapter's marines. If you haven't read the novel, it's amazing.

What I love most about the Devastation of Baal, is that it became personal for the Tyranids. "The Red Prey Warriors" as the Hivemind thought about them, had caused them so much damage and biomass, that an entire splinter hive-tendril was directed into the Red Scar region of space towards Baal. This was Dante using classic Russian-style scourged earth tactic in space!

It came for Baal for Revenge as well as for Biomass. We even see a bit form a Lictors point of view, that is where I got the term; "Red Prey Warriors." The Hivemind have a special hateful place in its mind for the Son's of the Angel.

Even the foul xenos know that the sons of Sanguinius are the greatest of humanity. The Nids make it personal, where it never it is before and the Silent King acknowledges Sanguinius and his sons as the greatest the imperium has to offer. Days how much better the imperium would have been had Sanguinus lived to run it, and even talking to the mighty Danta one to one.

Dante breaks down in tears at the end because although they defeated the tendril, it was the end of the Blood Angels as they were. No force that took part came out at anything close to fighting strength, if it hadn't been for the arrival of Guilliman and the Primaris Marines to rebuild... well it would of been the end anyway.

There was a reason all the defenders painted their armour black and did one last charge, there really wasn't many left. The Tyranids also destroyed all the new recruits in stasis undergoing the change, it was pretty grim. That is also not including how many gene seeds were just outright lost during the siege.

@@defiante1 dante ordered the last genestock as well as 1 Sanguinary Guard and 10 Scouts to leave Baal and travel somewhere else. The genestock was decreasing sure but they would have survived and the Successor chapters except probably the Flesh Tearers have their own gene stocks. Fleet based chapters would have had an issue if all their strength and numbers were there to fight.

Its stated that over 1 million bio ships entered the Baal system. Specific sizes and such are not stated but after making it to the planet their are still over 100k ships and they have millions of organisms per ship. That's easily 100 million that made it to the planet plus what they made from the planets biosphere while on world. The BloodAngels did a crazy good job against these numbers with little support. No real regiments of Guardsmen just trained militia that they drew from the planet and moons if a few months. The rest of the population was sent away to spare them. Dante is a genius commander and one of the reasons they are my favorite Chapter in 40K.

One of the things I liked most in this novel was when the blood angels were trying to figure out why the tyranids where moving in the direction of Baal as Baal is located in the halo stars region which doesn’t have many planets capable of even sustaining biomass. They theorised that the Tyranids had either evolved to understand and see the Blood angels as a threat or that the hive was after a greater price hidden on Baal as it is known that Sangunius’s body is entombed on Baal we don’t know if it is in a stasis field like Guilliman was though he is dead it would prevent the body from decaying meaning the hive could absorb the genetic material of a Primarch and become all but unstoppable.

Knights of Blood are such a cool story. Hated by the Imperium and some of their own cousins, brethren. Dante had made the call. The Knights of Blood answered the call in full force. Literally threw themselves at the enemy so that others could escape safely. They are no longer excommunicated in my eyes. ---*"For those we cherish, we die in Glory!"* --- (I know this is the Lamenters motto, but it works.)

To paint a picture; the Scythes Of The Emperor are a chapter who were directly in the war path of hivefleet Kraken. Their planet Sotha was rendered uninhabitable. This was a nearly complete chapter, naval assets, pdf, and so on. They literally ran out of ammunition. The Tyranids used more bodies than the space marines had weapons and ammunition to use. Even a hundred years AFTER the attack, some of the Tyranids were still alive on the completely dead world. So after a war, after a hundred years, and after Bellisarius Cawl literally microwaved the PLANET from orbit with neutron lasers, there were still Tyranids on Sotha. So yeah. Tyranids in the tabletop game are kinda lame, but in the lore they are nightmare fuel.

LOVED this book. All of it. All of the chapters coming together and fighting together. When that 1 bad ass Blood Thirstier showed up and absolutely wrecked the Tyranids. The civi boy with the head injury getting chosen to become a Space Marines making his dying father proud. That one Librarian just wrecking the ever living hell out of the Tyranids with his powers. And that's where I leaned that really powerful psykers can basically do anything......like fly And the parts of the battle that are told from the Tyranids POV. It was cool to see how the go about battle. Also doesn't this battle happen the same time as the fall of Cadia?

I don’t think anyone expects for Sanguinius to come back to life, but it would be nice to have a “Greater Daemon of Blood Angels” ... It would take a serious story to pull it off convincingly IMHO, just bringing him back as a ghost wouldn’t be enough. There would need to be a story where his spirit shard is recaptured and/or destroyed and the spirit released. Giving him enough psychic strength to materialise in realspace in dire times. Abaddon doesn’t need to die (he does really) but at least suffer a huge boarding action if not lose the Vengeful Spirt altogether. Have Ferrus lead the LotD and have Dante lead Imperium Nihilus with ghost-Sanguinius’ support. Then bring back all the “lost” primarchs and FFS someone wake The Lion up already!

also the Blood Angels worlds inhabitants the natives were given any weapons and rations the Blood Angels could spare, but they were not expected to survive, but any who survived would surely prove their right to claim a place in the chapters ranks. any tyranids they managed to kill would be less the Blood Angels would have to fight. this is what the Blood Angels told the inhabitants of their worlds, they also outfitted and equipped random bright eyed youths as scout squads for war, 40,000 in total.

You should do one for the War in the Webway. Custodes, sisters of silence, mechanicus, titan legions, and finally THE Emperor of Mankind. The losses made me feel dread when I read the book and still they fought on. And the second one I recommend the siege of terra followed by the second demon invasion on Terra when guileman returned.

Spoilers to those who wish to read the book. One of my favorite parts in the Devastation of Baal is the aftermath when Dante wakes up and he sees he is still alive( right after he begs Sanguinius and the Sanguinor to let him die). Then he meets Guilliman and the primarch asks to never kneel before him again. Even ordering Dante to not kneel. Also part of me thinks Guilliman acts far more relaxed around Dante in the book, as if his brother was still with him.

well its the Last wall in a way I play Blood angels I Love this story the serfs were about as close to guard in a way. the Knights of the Blood Problably one of the most Damned chapter in the Devastation of baal those Jackasses were taking the lives of There people Which angered Dante

I love the Knights of blood at the end, even the most damned and literally bloodthirsty and closest to damnation of the Great angels sons told Kabandha and by extension, Khrone and Chaos to go fuck themselves and they would rather be dead than join. Sanguinius would have wanted it like that, he would have been happy to know even the most damned of his sons still had at least some of his Nobility left in them.

@@knightzix_01 @MasterCrazyKnightz didnt mean to imply you said they weren't loyal just saying I thought the end of them was epic as hell and they made all the sons proud, I agree with you, even seth and dante agreed they were too cursed to bring back with the other destroyed chapters. Exactly the legacy Sanguinius built with his legion is still around and strong even after all this time even in a chapter as far gone to their curse like the knights of blood is epic and the Sanguinius's time honored tradition of telling kahbanda to f off is alive and strong when many think they would fall to chaos, I thought they redeemed themselves a little with their sacrifice.
