Change means progress,. You have some good ideas. I have tried many different gloves. I am trying Wells Lamonte now. In business waste is waste. If you can not make money with it it is waste. The weather this year has been hard on most of us. Rain in Maine, and record heat in south and Midwest. I believe we are experiencing climate change. You may want to think about building some shelters. Hard work pays off. See you in the future.

No doubt the weather has changed a lot in the past 40 yrs sure was a lot of rain this yr that made it very hard to get wood to dry but I’m working on a solution for that . I’ve run the wells Lamont gloves before an they worked ok . I figure any gloves that will get me through 10 cord of wood is worthy of keeping around .

@@AllenFamilyFirewood Wire mesh circle on a pallet. Finish the ends of the wire with a stick of wood to make it easily opened and closed. Do not attach the wire to the pallet. That is the basic idea for a loose-fill firewood bin. Welded wire 2 x 4 x 60 inches tall. It takes only one minute to sharpen a chain. Use a cordless angle grinder with a 1/8 inch disc. If you see some dirt on the log, try to have the chain pull the dirt away from the log instead of having the chain pull the dirt into the log.

Everything is more difficult in the winter. But the good news is that the daylight hours will be getting longer in a couple of weeks. An idea for the shorts....... If you are delivering the wood, throw a bunch of shorts in with the regular stuff as a little bonus. It gets rid of them and people like getting more than they pay for even if they are shorts. With all the exposed skin, how do y'all not get at least a small measure of frostbite? Karen I totally agree with you. When the fingertips and toes reach their point, it's over. I thinking along the lines of most others, just burn the uglies somewhere near the splitter. Think of poor Karen and her cold digits. Look into a manure tine bucket, should be lots around you guys. Even if you could just borrow one from a local farmer to try out. Using it to load the rounds into the trailer will keep the sawdust and small crap out of the trailer. Then later use your regular bucket to scoop it out of the corral and dump it when you can. Does the dairy farm beside you have a use for sawdust? Even if you could dump it on their manure pile they could spread it on their fields.

Some of the roadside stands near us bag them in the waterproof grain bags so they can sit outside the stand and get $20 per bag. We may also try that next season. I was thinking if you searched around for concrete block forks for your tractor, you can choose the spacing that you want to make a fork style sifter bucket and maybe have Dana weld some webbing on the outside forks to create a bucket like sidewall on each side. if that makes any sense, I tried to explain it the best I could sorry bud. But those concrete block forks there’s like six or eight small, spindle forks. I’m sure you’ve seen them somewhere.

Frozen logs and dirt can be a problem for chains. Get a shorter bar and a few more chains for it. This will save sharpening time because of fewer cutters. I assume you sharpen on a bench in your shop so less tailgate sharpening which eats more time. It will increase the chain speed which means teeth cut and clear faster which means less dulling. Put a third fork on your forks and cut logs from each end which keeps the logs at a nice cutting height and not have to dump on the other rounds for the last couple of cuts.
@AllenFamilyFirewood Жыл бұрын
I do all my sharpening on my tailgate or on the forks of the tractor . All my other saws have had 18 in bars but this 500 came with a 20 so ya alot more sharpening each time. My forks have a 6 in gap in the middle to take the forks off if i ever wanted to but i go back an forth alot from moving logs to lifting pallets so i think the 3 rd fork would be in the way for pallets .

@AllenFamilyFirewood Жыл бұрын
I haven’t mostly because there expensive an I don’t have any idea on how to sharpen one
@thefirewooddoctor Жыл бұрын
@AllenFamilyFirewood you need a diamond wheel to sharpen them. Bu the way, rotate the log so the diet is on top and do an underbuck cut to finish said cut. It will effectively spit the dirt away from the cut, greatly increasing time between sharpenings in dirty logs like yours. I've hilighted that technique in my video from yesterday. Have another one coming out this Sunday where ai run a full tank in some dirty logs using the same technique. Managed to rin a full tank of fuel without a resharp. Check it out and try it yourself.

8:17 That’s the reason I built a bucking table. I do have a Compact with pallet forks and 3 meter wood (it’s approx 9 feet). And I cannot really saw with this effective because I am dancing from left to right and from right o left around the logs and than I can’t saw in the middle and always working around the iron if the forks. I documented the table in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqXQlaaXprKanJo The table ist mobile and I can solve the transport problem of the logs with moving the whole logs to where I need them.

I will try an get over an ck it out . Once I get a few rounds on the ground it’s not to bad it holds the logs up I just hate cutting when there on the ground
@Holzplatz Жыл бұрын
@@AllenFamilyFirewood what I don’t like about that is that you have to pickup the rounds off the ground again. You lift it up with the machine to cut it and have it in the grind again. I am wirking on a solution to keep it on working hight after cutting and not have it back in the ground where I have to pick it up. I am thinking of a long table (eventually with a sight tilt to have the rounds rolling towards the splitter) behind the cutter. So load it on the live deck, roll them in the sawing table, saw ist, grab the rounds - turn around and place them on the storage table. On the short end of the table is the splitter. Grab the rounds, split them and put the splits in the front end loader bucket (or a conveyor) That’s my vision where I want o be in the end. Keep it modular so I can move it around if necessary

“ The more things change, the more they stay the same.” A lot of first on today’s video, liked the editing with the music- had a 80’s Magnum P.I. Vibe, Karen’s salty language 😂Too bad about the “ Spud dud” giving you fits. I would cobble together a fire pit- concrete blocks, maybe half the size of the corral blocks, kiss and make up with Dana, he could make two steel grates for the “lid” get a ripping fire going first thing every morn with seasoned wood and add to it all day- chunks, scoops of sawdust, Dew cans-everything. The blocks would radiate heat after a while and when you leave at night the grates would contain embers, ready to relight next morning- kill two birds with one stone. Very surprised Karen’s Great Wall gloves didn’t live up to expectations- the quality is usually top-notch😂🇺🇸🇺🇸Enjoy your weekend- p.s.- word on the street is Dana’s planning a attack👀

Pile the short pieces without splitting next to your cutting coral and when the pile is big enough advertise it for 50 $ or however much you can charge, you could even have them come and pick it up. Unfortunate couple of days for you guys. 😡 Hopefully, things will start working correctly soon. I use IBC totes for my shorts and cut-offs, and that's all I've burned so far this year besides pine. Pine doesn't sell here even as campfire wood. 🤷♂️ I'm sure Phil, you could come up with a design for making some bins when you build pallets that you could use for shorts and cut-offs in the future. I did that a couple years ago when I didn't have any IBC totes. I used pallets on 3 sides and some slats on the front so I could still reach the wood and hold sides in. If you built some, you could set one near the splitter so you could just throw them in after splitting them. I usually save my cutoffs and shorts until i think i may have enough to split and fill a totes, then split them and throw them in. I know it may not be worth your time, and that's understandable since you and Karen make a living saleing firewood. I've burned almost 3 totes worth so far this year, only have 3 more, but saved me from burning wood I can sale. I'm glad you all still have a positive attitude and laugh about even the problems. 😁

No thanks! 🤣 I don't care about the bladders but do use some from time to time for cutoffs. I cut the top of the bladder off and put the bottom on a wooden pallet, and fill the bottom with cutoffs when I'm out of totes. Todd from Todd's Outside Again showed putting blocks under the bladder inside the cage and cutting top off. I had not thought about doing it that way, but it was an excellent idea.
