New World Aeternum Is Just The Worst

From bungled content updates, false roadmaps, to straight up deceit of their player base. AGS Continues to throw punches at an already battered and bruised franchise.
Is this MMO turned ARPG in it's final fits before death? Do the devs even care anymore? should you care?.. probably not

Pretty much my sentiments. I feel totally betrayed by AGS and Scot Lane & the dev team to that point that I will always look out for those names in future if I plan to play some game. The betrayal they have done to the community that stood by since launch of New World is so bad that it tainted the whole time I spent with the game. Luckily the people I played with share decades of gaming and IRL stuff so there is that. Anyway, very disappointing and totally avoidable with even mediocre level of communication skills on AGS side but there either was no such skill in AGS or they decided to just throw the existing players out of the boat.

I agree totally, DukeSloth put out a good video that suggests maybe this is planned and it's not the devs just not listening but possibly intentionally trying to push out and drown criticism with a flood of content geared towards new players. Terrible tactics if that is the case

The continuation of the series of failures that New World has played ON ITSELF will always astonish me. When will it end? Certainly not anytime soon. No. They just doubled down. As someone watching from the sidelines it’s highly entertaining

Brilliant summary, mate. I also left shortly after the expansion. In short, I'm genuinenly baffled by the direction AGS are taking this game, which had a plethora of potential. In my opinion, once upon a time, I believe that AGS genuinely thought this game would become a massive hit and I am of the belief AGS believed their game would be the frontrunner of the MMO genre. To do that, the launch had to be perfect, but let's face it, it just wasn't. From day one, the currency was fucked and there were tonnes of server issues. But in 2021, you give them the benefit of the doubt. It's Amazon's first MMO and it was a game that completely set itself apart from the genre in more ways than one. I always loved the world of Aeternum and in its heyday, the game felt fresh and alive. But in a different sense. Originally, it appealed to people outside of the common MMO circuit (myself included) New World is actually my first MMO, so I had zero experience with the MMO genre. What seperated New World from other MMO's, was it's combat and it's environment in my opinion. Also, if you had a bog-standard run of the mill computer, you could play, and it was a pleasant surprise to see a game with such gorgeous landscapes and a thriving playerbase. There was also a -free- expansion on the horizon called Brimstone Sands, which in my humble opinion, was leagues ahead of Rise of The Angry Earth. In reality, Rise of The Angry Earth was a soft expansion. But we still bought it. Anyhow, after 7 or 8 months of hype from the devs after Rise of The Angry Earth, Scott and all of the other developers were telling us that they had to be 'hush hush' in regards to the big update coming ahead, basically because there were ties with Microsoft so they couldn't really say anything. All we ever heard was the saying that we ''can't say a lot at this moment in time' allofthefuckingtime, and so we actually start to buy into the hype. Skip to Summer Games Fest 2024, I have never been so let down from a game in all my life. Previously I'm thinking a new and free expansion announcement with a cinematic trailer coupled with console release + gamepass announcement or going F2P. A new zone is in the works, potentially a new engine, introducing new professions, new weapons, hints about swimming and lastly a PVP island. There's gotta be something at least! ..Nah, it's just console. What the fuck were they thinking? In terms of marketing, it doesn't get much worse than this. Rise of The Angry Earth had such little marketing, I genuinely thought it couldn't get much worse, but it did. It's so frustrating because New World has a fantastic foundation, with what seems like one of the worst game engines in the world of gaming. Summer Games Fest was at least an opportunity to build fundamental hype around the game again. For it's current player base. People that have been playing the game for the last 3 years feel completely alienated, just like you say and in regards to their new LOTR game, it's going to leave a lot of New World players questioning AGS down the line. Potentially October 15th, we'll see an abundance of content, but I highly doubt it. I genuinely just can't believe they're trying to appeal to the RPG genre quite as much. The game's an MMO for christsake. Appeal to the fanbase and it will be succesful. This game is truly on it's last breath and there has to be more in October otherwise that's the end of New World, which I still crazily somehow want to succeed.

Yeah, I was one of those people that jumped in at launch and loved it despite its many flaws, I stuck up for AGS for years while they were literally trying to fix their broken game. I even voiced my opinion openly in the community for Rise of the Angry Earth, saying it may be light but AGS has proven they will build and provide plenty of free content throughout the expansion. I was wrong... so very wrong

I stayed loyal and give them money until november of last year. I couldnt trust them for whatever annoucement they could ever make in june so i stayed away from it. Now im just watching with popcorn in the background how bad ags is at their job and im curious how long until either the dev team get fired or the game shuts down

I think the devs initially had good intentions but after all the coding worries and lack of vision, the higher ups have said "console action games sell, make it one of those and we'll squeeze money out of it before we dump it"

They new the Game was dead on PC and this is a last hail mary to launch the game on console hoping to save it

I'm not so sure they're interested in saving it at this point. Reducing the overall scope to say it's an ARPG with a solo and small group focus shows they want to reduce future development costs. This may indicate they are going to draw resources away from NW in favor of a new project

the only thing this game has going for it is the sound and visuals. everything else is below average at best .if you want a to play an mmo on console, id go and play an actual mmorpg like ff14

If you check my other videos, I've started a leveling playthrough of FFXIV. The combat may be slower paced but I'm having so much fun playing it again and reliving the amazing storytelling
