I would give it 2-3 months for the new console players to get a taste of the AGS us vets know and hate. Then when numbers start dropping off, they'll start merging everything together, just like they did with the first " fresh start" servers. This is nothing new. Don't trust what AGS tells you.

Why would I want to start from scratch and not able to keep any of my progress and stuff? If I have to start from scratch I will find something else to play.

Well, if Valhalla goes dead, then I won't bother rolling up a new character and leveling and gearing it up. If I have to level and regear up a NEW character, then I'll just move to another game and level and gear up there.

That’s fair, everyone has their own opinion on it. No servers will be “killed”, but with this news and logic it will just be a slow death, especially since these legacy servers will likely merge together over time, then there will be nothing left to merge with down the road. Still lots of opportunity to play of course.

they will revert this change in a year or so when the economy is established on standard servers. If they don't it's whatever honestly I am not grinding my way back to where my main is from fresh again. I'll play the fresh servers casually for a little bit. But there is no world where i invest time into grinding weapons w/ XP, trade/refining skills and trophies, artifacts, bags.....BAGS! no. Then things like min maxing armor and builds, no initial player count bump will incentivize me to put all that effort into a new character. I'm just gonna go straight into the raid on my main as soon as it's available. maybe check out the pvp island and new content. all while the majority of the community is franticly grinding the same quest missions again with a new spit shine on them lmao.

To be fair, I think they said fresh starts would “never” be able to be connected to legacy (at that time), and look where we are haha. Hoping in a year or two they’ll just open it all up again and have people go anywhere and everywhere. I agree though - not about to grind every trade skill over again, but am going to play fresh starts and have a nice, nostalgic time

i disagree. Standars server is gonna be the new fresh start. That doesn't mean that legacy are dead. + a lot of people don't want to start over so they are gonna stay and play on they old character

I'm okay with this, but they really need to speed up progression if servers are going to be getting sunset like this. I'd be fine with joining a new server every 6 months if it only took me a few weeks to redo my progression.

Overall leveling is definitely much easier compared to live servers! If you played the beta, I think you would’ve felt it! Unsure if you did or didn’t.

Legacy will never die, if anything the fresh start ones will eventually die. Legacy however will stand the test of time as it did for last 3 years. Clickbaity title is shameful

@@FinchFinley legacy servers are set up to die with this news long-term. As mentioned in the video, they aren’t being “shut down”, but they are now limited to only merging with eachother, and after a certain amount of time there will be nothing left to merge with. VERY limited console players will start on a legacy server. Regardless, I agree that there is still time to have fun on these legacy servers. That fun just might not last as long as these new “standard” ones.

Eventually it will get merged just like everything else you know they say one thing and then they do another how many times have we heard the fact that oh no server changes no server merges then all of a sudden they happen I'm not looking forward to granting another character leveling up all of the stations and

dont think console player base is that big in south america to populate a new server for the long run. specially in a MMO. I guess I will keep to the legacy server if I decide to comeback for this release. and that is a big IF. Payed full amount of gold for both base and DLC and did not like the fact of being a beta tester.

Isn't cross play a thing now where it does not matter which server you are on, you will be able to make groups with people from other servers? If that is the case, it does not matter if you are on legacy or not as long as you find players to play with.

The cross play is moreso randomly placing you in instances modes with other players, like an outpost rush match or arena. Server population mainly impacts the market, wars/territory ownership, and open world bosses for most events (like Halloween).

We were on 3 years playing new world, alfa, beta, gamma, delta, epsilon, zeta ... game play is this the final version? We starting fresh for sure!

I would assume a lot of older pc players will start on fresh start. A lot may not of played during the time where farming artifacts in the open world was a thing. It would be a pain to try and farm those same artifacts by yourself.

The main issue for Legacy servers, at least for those of us that like to PvP, will be the new PvP zone and Influence Races. If the population gets too low, those two things won't be fun. Beyond that, the economy will start to suffer with low populations. Fresh Start servers for this "soft-relaunch" makes sense with the incoming console players. But it's a tough pill to swallow for veteran PC players with maxed out trade-skills, BIS gear, and three houses full of trophies to have to start over. I think there should be some sort of compromise program for veteran players if they re-roll. You have to re-level your character, weapon xp, etc. But you retain your trade-skill progression but it's locked/gated. It opens up bit by bit as you level and the weeks go by. It can be at a rate that doesn't out-pace an average new player but the main thing is you don't have to put in the effort and gold to re-level it from scratch. My plan is to start a new character and play my main. I'll go on my main to check out the new PvP Zone and Raid right away while also keeping my finger on the pulse of the server. I'll also slowly be working on my new character with the goal of getting it to where my main is now.

This seems to make sense to me. The hope long term is that a portion of the millions of pc players who bought the game will return, and all of those characters are on the limited number of legacy servers. Plus, I think eventually they will be transferable, just like the current fresh start servers that are joining the legacy status. The problem is the naming scheme. The average player will see "standard" and "legacy" and assume that there is something not normal about the legacy servers. They might think it's a non "Aeternum" server that doesn't receive new updates or something. Legacy in the computer world literally means previous/outdated.

Being a veteran player I'll be sticking with Maramma. If I were a new player I would rather be on a server that has tons of stuff already made and ready to twink me than have to wait for people to max crafting. It is so much easier leveling up when your rich level 65 friends are there to help you with anything.

Well i am not worried about this. In the past the launched FS servers are died out in 1-2 month because these servers were filled with casuals. ppl who came with the hype train, ppl who just there for the early game experience and veteran warloggers.

I think they will dwindle for a bit. But hard core waring/pve will still log on. Some people have 6 characters and don’t want another. Also. Each character levels the same season pass. So people will pop on from time to time.

With the cross play in arenas and dungeons I’ll be content on my legacy server. I might roll up just to get the fresh experience and take my time while still playing my legacy. No chance I’m grinding all the professions and weapons again though. In the end, maybe I’d transfer my fresh character to the legacy if I really wanted to use him to get extra dailies and crap.

@@Mystical_Goddess That's understandable! I had trouble getting enough players to fill Winter Rune even when I was main tanking and shot calling (and teaching mechanics). That makes me worry about the new raid

I understand why they're doing this but it doesn't mean I particularly like it. I don't have anywhere NEAR as many hours as some other people do, only at around 450-500~ but knowing that gradually the player count is probably gonna dwindle on the legacy server my character is on right now is just kinda sad. I'm hoping that they just end up merging or allowing transfers after a year or two. current track record seems like that may be the case.

As many have stated, most activities like OPRs and arenas and whatnot will be cross-server, so even if the server is dead there’s still a lot of options to keep playing.

Yea I’m sure they’ll eventually merge together. Either way, it isn’t the end of the world because of all the cross-play functionality with certain activities. They just won’t nearly be as active and busy are these fresh starts imo.

@Savvvo maybe not people that left before brimstone, but all those people that left a couple months after angry earth expansion or any time after that... the sentiment I get is they are willing to come back to try new content out, but not commit to a full reroll... they left with BIS and are willing to give the new content a try. Not level the same content they already have mutiple times, just so after 2-4 weeks of hard grinding they get to run the new raid, etc. You really telling me think AGS deserves that commitment? I stand by my initial statement. Pains me to say, but The game is on life support, Oct 15th only keep it on life support... the future of the game depends the road map, not Oct 15th.

Are you new to the game, Savvo? This has all been done before. The last time fresh servers happened everyone said legacy would die but here we are. Fresh is an illusion and we all end up in the same place eventually. All of the modes that 90% of the playerbase plays are cross world between legacy and fresh anyways...

This is very different from last fresh start, since there is a large amount of new players that are playing this for the very first time (whereas last fresh start was basically all legacy restarting, plus a small handful here and there of brand new players). Even if legacy servers population hits 3 people, I’m not saying it isn’t worth still playing. Like you said, most of these modes are cross-play with other servers anyways. When it comes to new players coming into servers, legacy ones will be very much limited moving forward.

@@Savvvo I think you are ignoring the context of what just happened. Previous fresh start servers are merging into legacy when Aeternum launches. Eventually, when the next round of fresh start servers happen, these new "standard" servers will merge into legacy too. They can't tell you this right now because it would ruin the illusion, but fresh start servers are basically seasonal servers that feed into legacy at some point.

Historically, fresh start servers have been one of the most successful things for them in increasing the player count, and although I would never create a new character, I love seeing the game get hype. I’m curious to see which type the game defaults as “recommended server” because honestly, that is what the many of the new players are going to click on
