I'm not playing New World again until they add an MMR system in arenas. Last time I tried 3v3 I got absolutely bullied by the top 1% players almost every game while being completely new.

everfall, monarch's bluff and windsward should be pve, while mid-game zones should be knockout pvp and en-game zones should be full pvp, similar to Albion, and to balance the market the game should be full loot. but the game doesn't have a robust system for this type of mechanic, I don't think a "pvp zone" would solve the general problem of the game, they need to reformulate everything to make it good.

I think most players forget that alpha New World was an entire "PvP Zone" - it just had consequences! Translate that into a Fresh Start world, complete PvP Server but with groups like the good old days and we've got some quality content.

Pvp zone sounds good in theory, but every game that has attempted this the zone becomes a toxicity zone and it people lose interest and it starts to be less used and in this game with light being the go to in open space it might be worse. They need controlled casual pvp modes people can que into.

Exactly this. Assholes will find some broken build and go in there and dominate the zone and because you cannot party up he gets to have all the fun while making the zone unfun for anyone else and eventually nobody will go there anymore. WoW actually solved this problem partially. You get too many kills you become a bounty which was another fun mode because if you could get 30 or so kills while marked you'd win an achievement and that was very difficult when I did it with a party backing me up when that thing was new.

Here thats good news ! PVP zone may be part of the rework of cutlass (which is the most abandonned zone since first light). I think, with a little bit of luck, the whole Cutlass Keys zone MAY BE reworked to be a full on PVP zone. With many high tier ressources scattered around. It wouldnt make sense to just make a small area PVP-only, why would you come here on the long run? minRating/maxRating, min/maxDeviation, min/maxVolatibility means they are going to put a rating system alongside the matchmaking. "Rating" is probably going to be a score, which will be used to match you against people with similar score [min ; max]. "Deviation" is probably a system to find faster matches if you dont find anyone for your own skill rating. For example, you are 1500 rating and usualy matched against players with ratings varying from 1450 to 1550. Lets say the min/maxDeviation is 50. Lets imagine, if you wait 20mns and you dont find an arena matching your skill level, they may use 1400 rating players to match you with them. And on the other hand, if you win to much games in a row, they will try to match you with 1600 rating players. They use this kind of system in all games with ratings. "Votability" is probably going to be how many points you can win and loose per matches. Probably taking into account who you win/loose against. Finaly something interesting to look towards too !

I am going to go on a limb here based on this video and predict that they'll be redoing the cultus keys zone much how they did for the first paid expansion, and it will be an open world PvP zone. It would make a whole lot of sense to given those are both very underused regions of the map, I just hope its faction based and not free for all PvP. In the end this could also very well be nothing but a bug on the PTR.

@NewWorldOddity well, open world pvp is the goal, and what that means to me is a natural state of combat that arises when 2 or more players meet while engaging in normal activities in the map, or are roaming the map in any normal zone looking for players to fight with. Having a secluded island that is designated as the open world pvp zone takes away from the natural flow of open world encounters. It feels like it becomes a larger version of other pvp modes, say outpost rush, where everyone goes to fight in a deathmatch with respawn style. Aka zero risk combat. Which I do realize a lot of players enjoy. I just personally would prefer a natural state of combat without dev interference or restrictions. I want to fight player groups in all sorts of different environments and bioms when I find them there. I want to plan ambushes and solo vs a group of 5, I want to hear that such and such group is spouting off in such and such zone that they are unbeatable, and go there with my own group to find them, set up a strat and see if we can beat them. I don't want to be told that there is a pvp zone apart from the rest of the map, drawing players away from engaging with the rest of the world. And if I want open world fights, I have to go there. It feels like a larger version of dueling outside of towns.

@NewWorldOddity in short, there is little to no storyline involved when players are forced to open world pvp in a separated zone. It takes away from the world itself, takes away from individual infamy, and reduces skilled encounters in the open world. I think there is a far more effective implementation of encouraging open world pvp that would boost engagement in the world and lore. While this island pvp method would actually take engagement away from the world and lore, and make open world pvp feel like loading into a COD match.

Again AGS is only focusing on PVP content - which is basically all that's left in the game player base atm. Their whole leadership team needs to be fired, they are killing this game with over emphasis on PVP, when so much more could have been done. They backed them selves into this corner by making everything else so damn easy to do, there literally is nothing left but to fight each other for entertainment. That's a massive critical flaw in their planning/strategy thinking process and the reason they should be canned.

The decline is a direct result of them not focusing on PVE and instead focusing on the PVP aspect and making PVE content (copy and paste - same shit different looks) and way to easy.
