The reason for the sudden change in Harvey's attitude might be due to the fact that the Telltale crew went with Dent's original story, in which he always had this split personality problem, but managed to keep it behind closed doors and in his thoughts, managing to hide his problem from the public, until his acid attack at the hands of Maroni, another mob boss in the comics. In the comics, his scarred face simply brings to light the mental illness already there, by snapping Harvey's already weakened mind, which is already about to crumble due to pressure and doubts in himself, with the only things keeping him together being his hope for his campaign and image, which are now gone.

I know your comment is old, but I've just now got around to playing the game. Slight spoilers, I guess In my play through I saved Harvey (he only ended up with a black eye) and while he doesn't act as crazy at his office he still goes bat shit at Selina's apartment. So I think the chemicals definitely play a role in his unstable mental health.

The two personalities of Harvey makes sense in a medical standpoint. What happened to him was extremely traumatic and probably caused PTSD. The brain doesnt have a way to cope with that and it starts to weaken and break down and can cause some serious issues. From delusions to multiple personality disorder to suicidal thoughts to insanity. The incident itself was the trigger that made him into Two Face not just physically but mentally as well.

That is all true, but there's more to it than that here. If you chose to save Harvey over Selina, he doesn't get disfigured, but he's still affected by the attack, and he even mentions that one of the doctors at the hospital said the drug he was injected with 'could cause some old...issues to resurface. Become unmanageable.' So my guess is that, like the original Two-Face story, Dent always had some issues, but had managed to get them under control up until the debate. The drugs and the scarring didn't generate these issues, but they sure as hell made them a whoooole lot worse.

Hey Jack, quick Batman history: Yeah, Two-Face typically just snaps after being scarred. The explanation given since around 1986 is that, due an abusive upbringing, (Famously, his dad would flip a two-headed coin every night: Tails, he wouldn't beat Harvey.)Harvey had a lot of psychological issues with paranoia, especially regarding the idea of free will. He suppresses these issues in his rise to DA but the scarring of his face serves as a breaking point. It IS notable, however, that the scarring ALWAYS occurs during a time-period where Harvey is, somehow, attempting to reconcile different halves of his life: Whether it's his work load preventing him from having children with his wife like in Long Halloween, being unable to protect the law when his own clients are murderers in The New 52, or, as seen here, when he has to "turn" on his childhood friend to serve his own political ambitions. So the scarring serves as a 'crystallization" point: at least half of his life is out-of-control, and now half of his 'physical self' is as well, so his mind shunts his uncontrollable neuroses and desires into one side of him, forming the second personality. (sometimes, his personality already existed, and merely becomes a vocal and visible tic post-scarring)

A little explanation for you about Harvey Dent’s sudden turn to two face. Although no one really knows for sure how DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) happens and how the brain creates a new personality, there has been research into the subject and one popular theory is that a second personality can appear after a traumatic experience. That the brain’s current setting simply cannot handle the situation it’s been dealt and so a “new” setting is created to handle it instead. So it is (according to the study) completely possible for the sudden change in Harvey’s identity. Although he is obviously uncomfortable with it and to some level even fighting it. In the animated series they actually have sort of the same explanation to some degree where when Harvey were young he was bullied and just bottled it up until all his anger and hatred was eventually turned into a being of its own. This happened even before his face was actually disfigured.

Aye. My guess is that it is mainly trauma triggered. So the leap to PTSD isn't very far. in fact those two dissorders usually go hand in hand. my guess is that Harvey just can't deal with it, so his mind made someone who can, trapping him in the middle of it.

Well, it's nice to see so much shit going wrong for Bruce. I mean cmon , in comics he is filthy rich , ultimate fighter , badass , charismatic , very handsome , ripped , one of the smartest ppl out there and manages to not break his code on multiple occasions.
