I've looked at blackbird. If you continue with them, you'll have to review their vibe. I got a sjw vibe from them so I didn't order their lit units. I supplement with Guest Hollow book recommendations. My son loves most of the creative writing prompts/format from this book: Don't Forget to Write for the Elementary Grades. He is not ready for the focus it takes for IEW.

@@PiningOverHome No problem. It's been a while since I've looked at their stuff so I may be mistaken. I tend to check out every Cathy Duffy top pick. It could be they introduced themes too early instead.

I agree don't start with IEW. Its great, but wait. My 5th grader is starting it and it is perfect now but it would not have been good any sooner. We're loving it for him, but hes older and can work now. Just keep it fun for now ❤

It’s very structured! I’m determined not to squash his love for writing 😂 but I also want him to have all of the tools he needs 🙈
