Only YEARS of experience allows a FOH engineer to have such a cool, calm and collected demeanor (especially) whilst working a new (to him) piece of kit! Saying that...who wouldn't be confident mixing such a great and seasoned group of musicians as these!! Wish I had one of these setups back in the '70s when I was starting out! LOL Hats off to Yamaha for their dedication to making recording/mixing such a piece of cake for all us vets and newbs as well!

Looks like the perfect customer for the DM3 is someone who already owns one or more of the larger Yamaha consoles, as I do. I do many small setups where this compact mixer easily has enough inputs and outputs. The small size, light weight, and familiar control interface make it really easy. And yes I will keep my larger consoles for when I need more inputs and outputs.

Hi Gabo, thank you for your comment. Channels 1 - 14 were patched to USB channels 1 - 14 on the DAW (as standard), however you can assign each channel to any USB output you require with flexible patching! Provided you have the correct drive, you can set this up just like any other interface for recording by selecting it within your DAW settings. We hope this helps.

If it has the Dugan auto mixer on it I’m getting one. My venue has a Revoge m10, two CL 5’s and a QL 5, as well as some TF racks and an old LS9. We also had a bunch of the Soundcraft/Studer Vi consoles, but since they killed the brand we went in this direction. The SSL stuff would be the only stuff more preferable in my opinion. This is gonna kill the “off the shelf” stuff like the mackie DL or the behringer/Midas x32 stuff. Having Dante on it is HUGE. I’m in a four space performing arts center, and being able to use the cat5/6e infrastructure is key, and it’ll serve as a trainer for new engineers for both the yamaha consoles and Dante

Looks quite good, but the lack of physical buttons kinda worries me for a live situation to be honest. The on screen buttons look really really small. I think it is a good device for touring with a small band, but if everything on stage is getting more complicated I think I would not be happy with this mixer.
@Hamachingo
@Hamachingo Жыл бұрын
From what I gathered, you just tap on the screen and then twist the big knob to adjust that thing. So it's more of a 2 hand operation but you have access to your individual stuff so much quicker. X32 style knobs only work to some extent, yes there's muscle memory but you still have to push buttons to be in the right EQ band or get to the advanced parameters and adjust effects on the fly is kind of a nightmare unless you use the editing software on a computer or tablet. You could surround the display by knobs and have all the parameters around the edges of the screen but then the layout is the same everywhere and it gets confusing or you get the "parameter page 2" problem. As soon as you add more knobs it just adds complexity if the knobs do more than one thing.

I work on a Dlive system by allen and heath with a similar touch and turn system and it just works perfectly. We are all used to touchscreens so just tapping and the turning the same knob makes a lot of sense.

When I first saw this I thought should be a great mixer, and may be for some, but for me, there's no Android support for remote applications at this time, only iOS though Stagemix app (which has many issues) only 2 effect engines, no extra line in's such as the 4 currently used on my Touchmix 16, no Dante availability update for future expansion, must purchase the Dante model, only 1 headphone out, 2 on Touchmix. I was really wanting the DM 3 to be able to work for me, simply because I miss having faders on my Touchmix, but for my application not having Andorid capability was a deal breaker for me.

@bdp1823
@bdp1823 Жыл бұрын
@@drummerjimmy51 It just depends on your application. As I said, I was first interested in the DM 3 when I saw the faders, and the size, but the more info I gathered I decided it wasn't for me. The Touchmix definitely has more features than the DM 3, but then again I havent heard a DM 3 yet. I like the Touchmix, but I've had issues such as, based on my model/s/n, the output capacitors were installed backwards at the factory, and I had to open it up to replace the caps due to failure on a few output channels. This issue is well documented on QSC forums. Also IMHO, I've never really like the EQ on the Touchmix. Its not very linear. Hard to find sweet spots. With all that said, I have a lot of experience with the Touchmix, and for me to change to another console, the console will need to be at least compatible to the Touchmix, with a few more features, which I was hoping the DM 3 would provide, but in my case it doesnt. Your mileage may vary however.

Analog is SOOO.. much more difficult than Digital. Once you make the switch, you will wonder how you did anything before. My advice is try a digital console, almost any, I don't like the TF but this series' GUI looks far superior. The X32 series is also a great digital mixer to learn on... but they have nothing this size and it looks perfect for some of my small churches.

Why should someone buy this and not something like Midas MR18? I think this mixer is 10 years behind ...

I find it suspicious that the screen fades to black every time the engineer starts to change settings during sound sound check. I love Yamaha but this is just a worse version of the Yamaha TF

Hi Magic Mike we cropped some of the soundcheck to make the video a little shorter, rest assured we had absolutely no issues with this unit on the recording day!

For this price tag and applications I'll go with Presonus 32SC, Yamaha DM3 sounds grate but lack of options found on Presonus at same price tag. I own presonus long time ago and never let me down or heared someone having problems with them. Also the diference between 48k and 96k is not relevant up to 16 even 32ch and not relevant either on size of room and PA will gone feed. imho I'll choose Presonus over this.

I'll take Yamaha's long term support over Presonus any day. This looks like the centrepiece of my downsized studio...

Presonus sucks on their after sales support. Not only that there is a big issue on compatibility on Presonus products exampale for their stage boxes the stage box that is produce last week is not compatible to any of the consoles being produced today that is so stupid. You don't hear any complain on Presonus because no one is using them on the markets.

Only 2 FX engines is very disappointing for live sound use, maybe fixed with a later firmware update.

The software is suited on bigger screens, it is too small on this screen. Easy to just click on the wrong stuff. My overall opinion: This mixer seems half done, and not done good.

You're spending so much time on FX - which is anyway the easiest thing of all on a mixer with more tracks than physical strips! WHERE are the details on channel set switching and routing, which is the hard part!

6 mono aux buses - that’s a joke in the modern world. Most bands use in ears these days, and that number of aux sends that a full band can only run them in mono

With Dante version you can expand this system with Yamaha Tio series. But I think is limited channel count in desks software because console layout only shows two fader banks channels 1-16. So it seems like same goes to outputs as well.. Do not know what the built in ethernet connection does. Hopefully you can chain two DM3 desk together and have 32 in 16 out desk. For the price it´s not impossible to do. For sure two DM3 Dante versions should be able to link together so that would give you option to have this kind of setup 32 in 16 out.

Dude it's $2000 and it's small format well tiny format no one will do more than that at that size besides it's Dante just send more down Dante.

@@steakikan maybe but what you gain you loose. What does this have that, that doesn't? It's feature rich everyone wants there cake and to eat it too. All things considered including sonic quality, features and footprint what is better???? Because I want that. I want Dante and there is nothing this small with Dante I own 2 RMPD8'S can you imagine a better setup this small, I think not.
