The most difficult part was to, tell everyone the R9 will replace R1 as their road going flagship. In all honesty, there is no replacement for R1, its legendary status for this brand, the racing history. It will never be replaced. Yamaha makes the worst decisions by discontinuing their most iconic R6 and R1. They can easily afford to engineer it to pass E5. Great content just hearing the final part felt, it wasnt whole heartly honest about the R9.

It's certainly no direct replacement, as you say it's not close, but as a road-going sports bike it's the new largest capacity from Yamaha and so assumes that 'flagship' role. My personal opinion is that it'll be a fantastic machine on the road, though it has big (huge) shoes to fill. Truth is, nobody is really buying litre sports bikes anymore.
