"faffing around" with the clutch and gearbox is partly why I ride motorcycles. It is my machine that I am controlling as a rider, not a passenger.
@exothermal.sprocket2 ай бұрын
Love the control. Any mood, any gear, any reason, and if I want to pull the clutch and let the pipe bark in a tunnel, it's a snatch of the clutch away. Autos are good for disabled people or those who never intend to get serious about riding. Otherwise they are complex and expensive.
@phil80ifyАй бұрын
I'm with you MOTOBOB. My money would go on the middle range Tracer 9 GT with the manual clutch and maybe some factory upgrades. Also can't wait to see some real-world road reviews on this model and what after-market upgrades can be sourced in the future - namely in the exhaust can department.

The tenere 700 low is great I am 5’ 6” with 30 inch inseam and I was able to ride the demo bike. I loved it and suspension, engine superb. I am just set on the V-strom 800 de engine feels like if has more in the tank and feels like it’s easier for longer rides

It's absurd that they didn't update the Tracer 7 with ride-by-wire (and cruise control). The bloody bike is marketed as a tourer. Triumph just did that with the Tiger Sport 660, which is the Tracer's main competitor. On the other hand, I'm happy they didn't, 'cause I bought a Tracer 7 early this year...
@mikeskidmore6754Ай бұрын
They don't sell a Tracer-7 in the USA.. I have Givi side cases, Top case and a windscreen on my 2016 Yamaha FZ-07 plus Ohlin Cartridges in the Forks. I am sure the Tracer-7 would be drive by wire if all of the other 2025 models are. Seems I heard that Cruise Control is only offered on the auto shift version .
@bikegeist19 күн бұрын
They don't even sell the T7 in USA or Japan, so it's clearly not a priority for them.

The head light config for the Tracer 900GT+ looks better than the GS1300 with the active cruise control, IMO. Is there an option on adaptive suspension? Just wondering about the scaling of accessories through the middleweight market for sport tourers and adv's. The GS1300 has a pretty monstrous price tag even without all the bells and whistles.

The XSR 900 has had an update Bob. It gets the latest electronics and quickshifter from the MT 09 and at last a 5" colour TFT up from the much critisised 3.5" which many people struggled to read and it also gets new switch gear which is in line with the MT 09 now. That new Tracer is hideous by the way.
@exothermal.sprocket2 ай бұрын
XSR900 got the 2024 MT updates I was waiting for. If it got a 17L/4.5 gal tank, it would be about perfect. Better switchgear, better display, 3rd gen QS, similar intake system, updated ECU programming. It still hearkens to "motorcycle" styling from the 1980's and that's what I like about it, but it's still fully modern bones and powertrain. With tuning, they turn out 120 hp and 70+ ft-lb at the wheel, while the weight dips to 418 pounds. That's a pretty stout power to weight ratio. One thing I haven't been able to find, is any information about the 2025 XSR900 getting the increased steering lock movement that they gave the 2024 MT-09.
@Jacob991742 ай бұрын
Glad I’m not the only one that noticed this oversight IMO, this now makes the XSR900 practically irresistible 👍🏿

I'd be happy if I could get my hands on the base model tracer. I wouldn't be using it for real long distances. Maybe around two hundred miles out. The yamt, I can do without. We'll see though. I have other options. Mt09, mt10 or cb1000 hornet, if we can get it here in the US. I love the tracer though. It comes with a windscreen and saddle boxes. It's an awesome looking bike

I’ve never owned a Yamaha or Ducati for that matter.Came close with a 900S in ‘79 . Went for a GS1000 instead because I only knew how to change spark plugs,adj chain. Why doesn’t Yamaha go the whole hog on the Tracer and give it shaft drive?

@exothermal.sprocket2 ай бұрын
As it's been said, the auto system is an OPTION. Yamaha has yet to find out whether it will be popular or not. I'm all about manual control and freedom. Clutches have gone from something requiring forearm strength, to assist-style with half (or less) the spring weight, to slipper style which don't lock up the rear wheel on aggressive downshifts, to now a computer doing the clutching. I just don't believe clutches are a barrier to entry on motorcycles. I don't hear a collective voice in the non-motorcycling public that says, "well, I'd really get into riding a motorcycle, but I'd have to pull a clutch lever. So..... it's a no-go for me." Nonsense.

Yamaha could have made "the most advanced headlight system" without making something so ugly. It's like a spider on crack. FJR1300 is dropped now in 2025, so Yamaha no longer make anything bigger than 1L in a four cylinder. I think the CP3 is not a proper touring engine like the FJR has been. It's not as smooth, doesn't have anywhere near the same drive as that big 1300cc four. I really hope Yamaha has been working on a fully redesigned FJR. The last version wasn't ugly, wasn't lacking technology, but it also wasn't really very popular either in big sports touring markets, which have given way to big ADV bikes. What really needs updated is the Super Tenere.

Great coverage, but Yamaha's descent is tragic. They used to be superlative, imaginative engineers delivering original, focussed bikes. And the Diversion... But now, what a lack-lustre lineup. Like the rest of the manufacturers, a ton of needless nanny-tech (radar! Seimi-auto! Blind-spot alert! Phone alerts!), over-complex showroom features and more weigh, less power. People pay for this junk? Mortorcycles used to be a refuge from all this BS. Outside beginner/commuter bikes and some nice paint-jobs (and a kid-yourself rally bike) Yamaha now have very little to offer. But could be worse, there's always Suzuki... Without Toyota money, Yamaha would be going the way of KTM (how did uglier, more expensive, heavier, more complex, less reliable work out for them?) Please, anyone getting into bikes... buy used - there are so many mint, amazing, reliable bikes out there that are better than this bland, sanitised swill.
