New YAMAHA YZ450F RALLY bike build

This Yamaha YZ450F Rally I built was supposed to race in the 2020 World Rallies Championship. Unfortunately the whole championship got cancelled but wanted to finish this build anyways and show you how this Rally Kit transforms literally the YZ450F or the WR450F into a ready to race machine but also can be used for Adventure Riding.

Hi Manuel, amazing bike... great video. The same foam grips I used for years. On the last Breslau Rallye I used the ODI Rogue Lock-On grips with the soft grey compound... No blisters... just perfect.

The bike looks amazing especially the graphics. I do not like the looks of side by side headlight as compared to the Husky/KTM setup. Even the 450l looks much better. Overall beautiful and functional

Thanks a lot!!! I like to try and always change designs, everyone having different tastes sometimes people don't want the KTM/Husky style. On this I got inspired by the Yamaha MT-10 and Super Tenere 1200 so for this reason I went with the side by side light. I am working to get a new fairing setup made this winter for a different light :)

hey.. that's a great build. could you explain me importance of bash plate water reservoir? i understand that it is done to utilise space and keep centre of gravity low. but what would be the usage of such hot water?

That’d be an ideal set up for hunting (wild boar in Australia) would be cool if you could adapt that set up to hold gps, phone, radio ect and normally we have a rifle bracket across the handle bars for easy reach and keeps it out of the way when riding

The kit is designed to hold GPS and eventually also phone instead of tripmasters. Never saw a rifle bracket on the handlebar!! Gonna try check it out would be surely a cool build

What’s up brother? I’m building a rally tower on my 2016 yz450fx. I’m having an issue with my power output at idle. I installed two lights and it drops down to 11.2. Do you know what I need to do to have it back up? Battery, stator, rotor, flywheel? Thanks in advance

I usually install a GET Lithium Battery which is used a lot in motocross and holds up well, I used it even on Pol Tarres Ténéré race bikes

Hi Manuel, your bikes are looking awesome but why you never put a cush drive on it? Given the extremely long stages on the rallies, isn't it better to use a cush drive for the durability of the gearbox? I'm not a pro rider and therefore not an expert but I see this again and again on the factory bikes. It just makes me wonder. Have fun and most of all a lot of success with your next Dakar Rallie

Manuel, did you changed the WR wiring harness for the YZ harness?? what has to be changed, I want to fit a GET ignition on my 2017ish WR what works and doesnt work?? (electrics)

Just put the YZ FX ECU in it. You aren't going to gain much. Or run the YZF ECU for all out power.

@@SomeTechGuy666 my idea was to fit the GET-ecu, to get their "traction control" 🤔 as the rally bikes seem to have these fitted.. but they have a YZ harness... and that GET ecu cant or want stem to work with the standard WR harness.......

@@rickasdnorth I wouldn't bother. All the ECU does is retard the ignition if the rear wheel starts spinning. I guess it is helpful. Wouldn't be too hard to do as a DIY project. Just intercept the ign wire going to the coil. Not sure how you'd sense wheel spin though, except if you watched engine RPM for fast increases. Hmmm.... I ride a YZ450FX in mud, snow and ice. Just put a mild tune on the bottom end when it is slippery. Keep the top end as hot as you want it. The newer WR and FXs have a map switch. I'd rather have the map switch than the traction control. Outstanding bikes, btw.

@@rickasdnorth Should be very easy to wire that ECU into the WR harness. The YZ, YZFX and WR harnesses aren't all that different.

The customer wanted more power and the YZ has more power than the WR. The disadvantage is less reliability than the WR and more servicing to do.

Beautiful build! I have a couple of questions. I had previously converted my KTM 690 Enduro R with rally kit and liked it a lot. I plan to buy a used WR450 frame/subframe and build an Electric bike for adventure touring (mostly off-road). A couple of questions. How much do your rally builds typically weigh full of fuel and water? How does the chassis hold up at higher speeds (for me more highway/high speed dirt roads)? Does it need a longer swingarm? I want to put as much battery as I can for fewer re-charging stops and for cross-wind stability. I'm thinking about 350 lbs max (160kg). Will the bike (frame/subframe) hold up to this weight? Will adjust suspension as needed. Thank you! Love your vog!

It depends a lot how you distribute the weight, for example the Fantic 450 Rally Bikes that fantic sells they had to put a metal subframe because they had the exhaust bracket too long and it would make the alu subframe crack. I put tanks on the alu frame and never broke one as the tanks is distributed in a certain way. So depends a lot how you place the weight and where the fulcrum of the weight is discharged on the full chassis. Always try to make it so that the weight mostly puts pressure on the main frame and not subframe. For the swingarm the only reason to make it longer is to increase offroad stability.
