Welcome to NYC , what a surprise to have you here! I live literally down the street from where you’re staying. Down between the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan Bridge is an historic spot for American painters, the Ash Can School did many works of the waterfront right where you were working. That burrito place down by Pier 17 is great, whenever I’m painting there I have to stop and have one. If you get the chance take the ferry out to Governor’s Island there are great painting locations down there.

Thank you so much for the conversation with Pete. Adding too much detail is part of what I struggle with in art. It's hard to stay on the implied / vague scale while referencing something that has so much more depth and detail to it in person. But you're so so so right about adding too much detail and detracting from your style and the inherit beauty in how YOU are perceiving it and putting it down on paint. god i love painting. love this channel.

Michael, right there in Chinatown was where the AMAZING Pearl Paint used to be...went there many times before it closed....5 floors of Art Supplies (& no elevator!) It was truly an amazing place. So sad it's gone. Did you get a chance to visit Salmagundi Club? An amazing venue for art shows of all mediums, they hosted many national Watercolor shows. I have the books from a few of them.

I love your work. I am currently an art student on the east coast and I definitely come to you when I need to feel inspired to paint. I love your interesting compositions and the loose brushwork. I really appreciate when artists do not over state what they are painting and apply too much information (aka hyper realism). Your paintings really have a way of bringing the viewer in and keeping them involved. I would love to see an art gallery pop up on the east coast some day!!!!

Very interesting video! I always like the travel vlogs. And Pete’s painting is great. I know it wasn’t finished, but it had a nice simplicity which, as he said, suggested the scene and seemed realistic even though it wasn’t. I think he captured the light well.

i love the way you talk about the light and dark in your paintings! i am a big watercolor girl and I've been struggling with making my pieces look right, but the way you talk about light and dark helps me to see watercoloring in a new (ish) light! I'll definitely be using that in my next works!!!
